2013 High-Res PC Screenshot Thread of Let the JPEG Die Already

Is SGSSAA actually doing anything? Doesn't seem like it is.

Was it ever possible to remove the HUD in that game?

No idea if the SGSAA is working, I am new to inspector. These are my settings:

i always wondererd why they load so slow.

is it because the textures a perhaps so huge or the game loads to slow ?

Rage uses a form of MegaTexturing, called "Virtual Texturing". It's an interesting concept, and also a huge failure.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MegaTexture

"MegaTexture refers to a texture allocation technique facilitating the use of a single extremely large texture rather than repeating multiple smaller textures. It is featured in Splash Damage's game Enemy Territory: Quake Wars and was developed by id Software technical director John Carmack.

MegaTexture employs a single large texture space for static terrain. The texture is stored on removable media or a computer's hard drive and streamed as needed, allowing large amounts of detail and variation over a large area with comparatively little RAM usage. Depending on the pixel resolution per square meter, covering a large area could require several gigabytes of memory. However, RAM is also filled by the rest of the game and the underlying operating system, limiting the amount available for texturing. As the player moves around the game, different sections of the megatexture are loaded into memory. They are then scaled to the correct size and applied to the 3D models of the terrain.

Rage, powered by the id Tech 5 engine, uses a more advanced technique called Virtual Texturing. Textures can measure up to 128000×128000 pixels and are also used for in-game models and sprites, etc. and not just the terrain."

HAI GUYS. Not sure if you saw from the bullshot thread but I'm trying to build a resource thread for us to organize and discuss our screenshotting knowledge and tools.

Sooo.. if you guys have, or care to take, any awesome shots of a cameraman (such as frank west or my bioshock example below), please post em'! A good header image is always awesome.

Also, I don't have a hilarious title yet. Just that the thing is termed 'the compendium', so...
The NeoGAF Screenshotting Compendium Thread. But its missing the luls. Suggest humorous 'ofs' if you please.

Current shot I got:

I was gonna say, the representation of Deadpool in the movie and in the game are... positively baffling. You know the guys at Raven were like "What the fuck are we doing right now" but they were bound by the licensing and the tie-in to the film.

The only scene of the film that I enjoyed was the cameo by Daniel Negreanu playing cards with Gambit, I was really into professional poker at the time.

I didn't think it was winning any graphics awards, being an MMO and all. Is the game itself any good?

The game is surprisingly good, yes. Played about 4 hours or so today. I don't like MMOs usually.

The graphics are fairly decent for an MMO, it isn't ugly at all. Unfortunately you cannot downsample it due to UI scaling (how the hell do you play an MMO when you can't see anything) which is apparently an issue for people on 1440p monitors, as well. They need to fix that shit. I also haven't been able to figure out how to inject AA, the Defiance profile in Inspector doesn't work. Someone on the Steam forums suggested a workaround fix using the Legacy of Kain: Defiance profile, but that didn't work for me either. I would inject SMAA with SweetFX except that I literally don't know where the game is installed on my hard drive.

My screenshots were jaggy as fuuuuuuuuuuu

I'll get it worked out eventually. At any rate my first impressions of this game having a 64 on Metacritic reflect poorly once again upon games journalists. It's legit. The mechanics don't feel "MMO janky". It feels like an online third person shooter, pretty cool. TotalBiscuit liked it as well and he is pretty hardcore about his MMOs.

It's definitely very Borderlands-y.

Once I figure out the anti-aliasing situation I will make sure to get something worth posting.

Nah man lets have jaggy week, all aliasing, all week, in a 7 day band-aid filled extravaganza!!!

thats a really bad idea lets not do this

I got SMAA going, but it's not enough without downsampling. Really have got to figure out how to get Nvidia Inspector working with it.

also yargh at that guy slipping in a second post so quickly :(

I'm sure a mod would be nice enough to move his post to #3 so as to not break the flow of the OP if you ask nicely. I've seen them do it before.

Is Defiance worth £25?

I paid $60 for it, so that seems like a pretty nice deal ($38 USD according to Google). I am not dissapointed at all, I played for about 5 hours yesterday and I'll probably put a few more into it today.

It's my new "podcast game". TotalBiscuit liked it enough.

Right now to me, the Metacritic score seems like a farce. This is not a 6/10 game, but it's not perfect. I couldn't get into Guild Wars 2 at all, gave up after less than 10 hours of no interest but that got rave reviews.

It's hard to judge personal taste.

Defiance lacks a ton of polish, the problem with being a licensed tie-in game to a TV show that is 100% set to launch on a certain date. There are a lot of strange "quirks" that would not expect to see in an MMO these days... like the inability to remove the UI elements or adjust the camera distance from the player... Stuff WoW was doing in 2004.

But it's absolutely fun to play. Really the only thing that sucks about it is the Options menu, customization is CRUCIAL for an MMO.

Thanks, I think in that case ill hold off and see how they deal with it post release. I hated GW2 after the beta I felt like I had done everything that was interesting. Defiance looks like a game I would enjoy.

Also to my fellow Nvidia owners does the 'adjust image settings with preview' tab (the floating rotating Nvidia logo one) affect inspector at all? Still trying to get used to it :P

Managed to get 4k fiddling around with my settings. The Darkness II may not be the most graphically intensive game but it ran at a solid 54fps (The highest I can set my refresh rate when downsampling).

Also tried out Crysis 3 got about 8fps Ultra eveything with TXAA 4T (?)
