2014-15 TV Cancellations: Under the Dome canned, what will CBS do with CG cows next?

Are you shitting me? Mission Control was one of only two things in midseason I was actually looking forward to. Unique premise, great cast - and NBC shoots it in the head before they even get a chance.

Broadchurch is getting a second series though.

I also fail to see why drama is unacceptable but comedy isn't. A remake is a remake.

Humor can be very different by region

UK has a lot of surrealist humor that would never fly in the US. Puns might also fall flat due to differences in word usage.

Drama though? No difference.

I point to Shameless as a good example of why networks try their own stuff out. Different perspectives and directors can produce a different and in some cases better product, so why not try?

Shameless is actually a really great example. I'd actually also point to Being Human as another decent example. Sometimes the cultural aspects of the shows change the way the drama plays off to a foreign audience. Other times the differences in the format itself makes remakes hit better than simply transplanting (Luther would get tired incredibly fast in a 12-22 episode format while Being Human UK and Misfits suffers from the cast shuffling that tends to happen more often in UK productions).

Because they have limited airspace and they want to fill it up with original content that they can control better. Plus other channels can air the original if they want to.

No, they don't have limited air space. They have 22 episodes for a 52 week year.

Fox is airing Bob's burgers reruns on Tuesdays in October for crying out loud.

Threes plenty of space for foreign shows with 6 to 10 episode seasons.

Comedy can be very different, but it isn't always. ABC was going to remake the British series Spy a few years ago even though the original was something that would have easily fit in with ABC's other shows. Moone Boy is the same thing.

Remaking a foreign show isn't inherently a bad thing, it's worked for both comedies and dramas, but I'm not a fan of the idea in general for either genre.

CBS launched a subscription service? The fuck?

Shame that they'll blackout NFL games on the streaming, though. Would have been a nice way to do an end-run around NFL Sunday Ticket.

I see a lot of people giving Star Wars Rebels an F. What's so bad about it?

From the new series that I have seen...

How to Get Away With Murder - B-
Gotham - B
Mulaney - F
Utopia - F
Selfie - D
A to Z - C
Stalker - F-- (Probably the worst premiere)
Red Band Society - C+
Mysteries of Laura - B+

Overall not too bad.
Still watching the C and up crowd.

This is weird considering everyone is saying each one of these series is on the chopping block for early cancellation. But then again script orders != episode orders.

So now we are </scorpion> shaming?m
Scorpion is actually pretty crappy. I usually don't give Kurtzman/Orci shit for anything but I feel like they really just put their names on this to collect paycheques this time around.

I would say almost every single new show this fall is going to get some sort of a back order. It's a weird year.

It seems like only a few stations have shows prepared for the mid-season. Stuff like Glee, The Mentalist and Parks and Recreation are still coming though. The CW seems to have the most reserve, they have iZombie and The Messengers.

New TV shows are kinda disappointing this season. The Flash isn't on my list because I haven't tried it yet, although I intend to.

In what world is Gotham better than Stalker? No. Absolutely not.

Hello, pot. I'm kettle.

We both like Hannibal. Far worse has happened on that. Including burnt bodies.

Except one doesn't take pornographic pleasure in the maiming of women and act as a how to guide for stalking.

It's a disgusting, vile show. It's gross. I'm disgusted that it's actually airing on television.

If you watch Scorpion straight, like it's a serious attempt at a new 21st century television show, then yeah it's an F for failure

If you watch it as an homage to 80s cheese like The A Team or Riptide, then it's a C
for cheese

Also, there's nothing a stalking case brings that can't be incorporated in any of the procedurals. I just don't see the appeal, seems like an incredibly specific plot device.

I'm still watching it because others want to watch it (in this case, if they will sit through a show I like that they may not love, I'll sit through one they like that I may not love) but it's honestly not awful.

It's not what I would call "good" but it's also not so bad that I'd consider it unwatchable. I will say that the show would be much better without stupid Happy, though. Her voice drives me nuts.

Essentially:
Scorpion: C to C+ (i.e. watchable)
Scorpion without Happy: B
