I like it, though the busy styling may age somewhat quicker, so it will be more interesting than usual to see any mid-model refresh styling changes. Body proportions though are wrapped in nice and tight. Would like to see it in white.

Someone on the C7 design team owns a C4.

Looks good, but I'm not a Gran Turismo guy. I switched to Forza long ago, so I'm assuming that this will be in the next Forza game. And probably the next Need for Speed game. GM isn't too picky with their video game licenses, unlike some automakers. (coughcoughporschecough)

New Corvettes always look better in black. I remember thinking the same thing when the C6 was revealed.

I really like the new design. Interior not so much. But I'm glad they ditched the curvy styling of the C5/6. It was getting old and looked it. But I've always been a fan of cars with sharper lines than curves. Also glad they didn't go with round taillights, the circles would have looked really out of place with the edgy styling of this car. C4 had rather square tails too iirc so these aren't that unprecedented. Finally a Corvette that looks like it belongs in the 21st century. I'm still waiting for a mid-engined vette though.

If GM wants to do a mid-engined car, it should be a Caddy. They've thought about it before:

It's crazy to think how close Jalopnik was in November 2011. The key details turned that (relatively) ugly render we see here into the beaut that was revealed yesterday, but still props to Jalopy for almost nailing the basic outline of the car. Even though they were (and still are to this day) dicks about it.

They had a picture or two that, looking back now, were extremely close to the final version we saw Sunday...

and their screencap of the front fascia (shown in a video on the supplier's website but later removed) almost got them shut down:

I'm still surprised that they still make these cars with manual transmissions, given how they've declined in use, at least here in America. Not sure about other territories.

Is it an economical reason or just because an automatic can't get the same performance out of the same type of car than it would if it were manual?

A dual-clutch transmission would actually be faster, but GM doesn't have one of those yet.

A lot of the sort of people who want a Corvette are the sort who want a conventional manual, so it makes sense to offer it here.

Manuals have actually been increasing last year or two.

I don't like those tailpipes being bunched in the middle like that. I think it's better if they placed it on each sides of the back. Can somebody with photoshop skills change it? Thanks!

The carbon fiber bits are impressive, but that shit can't come cheap. I was watching this half-hour YouTube video about Koeingsegg and Christian von Koeingsegg talks a bit about carbon fiber, how not all carbon fiber isn't the same, and how the weaves make the difference.

The carbon fiber bits in the C7 Corvette can't be the same type as the carbon fiber in a $1.5 million Swedish land missile, can it?

EDIT: Here's a clip that goes into depth on the carbon fiber in a Koeingsegg.

The difference in quality wont matter as much if its just the hood and roof. You only get terrible carbon fiber from aftermarket companies, and its readily apparent, the weaves will look uneven and the CF will be misshapen when they pull it out of the mold.

I'm pretty sure that the fibre quality is just as good in the vette as in the koenigsegg. It's not the material itself that is the big cost, it's the manufacturing process. As you can see in the Koenigsegg video every carbon fibre part is more or less hand made... and they have a shitload of carbon fibre parts, and many of them are really complex compared to a big flat hood or roof.

The quality of the carbon fiber depends a lot on the manufacturing process, though.

I like the looks but still unimpressive that its beaten so badly in HP by the GT500.

450 hp in the base C7 is pretty expected. The current C6 has 430, the Z06 has 505, and the ZR1 has 650 hp. Going by current trends the C7 Z06 will probably have 550 hp (same as a 458 Italia), and the ZR1 will probably have over 700 hp, stealing the American hp title back from Ford, until Dodge builds an 800 hp ACR.

I keep seeing this comment about how that render was relatively or otherwise "ugly". Ugly in what way? It was probably a design render (by 2D software by one of it's designers, not by 3D modeling done by someone hired by Jalopnik) internally that got leaked. It's a fantastic rendering of a design that was 100% accurate that the stage it was leaked from. It's probably that accurate because it WAS from the GM design team.

And you thought it was "ugly" back then because you didn't know that it was so accurate, and now that it turns out it was the real deal, you make some queer modification to your earlier statement about it being "ugly" by adding BS adjective like "relative".

Maybe it's because I actually went to car design school with these guys that do the actual car design work, but I can't help to find all you so called car guys talk out your ass about car design and want to throw up every damn time.

Agreed.

I'm going to spitball a thought though.

The more important question is going to be what kind of mid-model update will the C7 get when the new Mustang launches. I'm not a Ford fan, but objectively, Ford really took the gloves off with the 2011 update to the Mustang. The next-generation Mustang is rumored to get an IRS, a substantial reduction in curb weight (100+lb at least), and possibly a DI update to the Coyote. For the first time since pretty much ever, it looks like the next-gen GT might become a legitimate threat to the Corvette. That's speculation of course, and it probably won't actually beat the Corvette, but it could become close enough to make buyers question the price/performance difference between the two cars. And something like the Boss could actually step on toes.

The next-gen Alpha platform Camaro will see similar improvements, so I think the "pony" cars are going to be in a very interesting position vis-a-vis the Vette in a few years. The fact that both GM and Ford are considering optional twin-turbo V6's for the next Camaro/Mustang will make things even more interesting to the warranty-indifferent tuner market. Indeed, I think GM could be thrust into an uncomfortable place with the next Camaro. If Ford really delivers on the Mustang, the Camaro that can match it will be perilously close to cannibalizing Corvette marketshare; even to the point where differentiating the Camaro SS and base Corvette motor may become a necessity.

It's going to be interesting to watch, that's for sure.
