How hard is soccer to get into from someone's who's a basketball player. Watching the world cup so far has piqued my interest.

Not hard at all, granted you're in good physical shape (somewhat athletic) it is one of the most physically demanding sports, a lot more running than basketball. you will need lots of stamina.

other than that just buy a ball from a sporting good store, and practice kicking, do dribbles on your feet, kick against a wall and back and forth (a'la squash or ping pong against the folded table) Keep practicing controlled kicks, passes, strikes etc.

Next look to join a local league, maybe people at your work? or community, indoor outdoor whatever.. try to play in a team at least once a week, it can be super fun... Start as a defender (position) and see what suites you the best as you get better.
