2015 Console Screenshot Thread (PS4, XB1, Wii U) [READ OP!]

Maybe it's my monitor but what the hell is going on with the specular in this shot? In a dark room it's literally painful to look at.

It's something Digital Foundry touched on in their tech analysis of the game. There seems to be something weird going on with some of the materials, causing situations where the specular is reflecting way more light than the source is actually generating:
Materials: Rise of the Tomb Raider has made the jump to a physically-based renderer but the results leave something to be desired. Compared to its contemporaries, the materials in this game simply lack the realism we've come to expect. While cloth, snow, and ice are convincing enough, much of the stone and wood work just don't work for us. Indirect lighting conditions often appear unnatural, despite the reliance on image based light probes, and specular highlights behave in an unrealistic fashion.

Just a weird quirk of an otherwise really nice looking game.

Can't believe Battlefront is 60fps. Battlefield 5's campaign will be incredibly good looking.

Nothing has hit The Order's CGI illusion levels yet, but looks like Sony's first party studios and EA's Frostbite will have a real shot at doing so this gen despite deciding to use 16:9 ratios.

And the AA solution is not ideal, lots of shimmering, AF can be pretty low as well, DF said it should have been 900P, the game would look and run better.

DF was wrong IMO. The game benefits immensely from 1080p. If 900p would bring it to 60fps maybe I would agree but I highly doubt that would be the case.

No way... the aliasing is far too prominent. From an IQ standpoint, I'd take pretty much every 900p game I own over it (not Arkham Knight tho... there's something very wrong with that one). There's no point having the clarity of 1080p if all it's doing is making the shimmering more clear.

Eh, preferences I guess. In most of the game's settings I really don't notice the aliasing in motion and the game has such gorgeous texture work the clarity is worth it.

One thing I remember about Until Dawn was when the framerate dipped and the monsters were on-screen, it reminded me of the old animatronic effects seen in 80s movies.

Are there spoiler rules in this thread? One of these Until Dawn shots is showing off some late game reveals. Luckily I've finished the game -- but this would suck for someone seeing these shots in this thread without having played it. Can you just throw tags around some of the more revealing shots, please.
