Welcome to the 2021 NFL Draft!

It should be an interesting night because outside of the first 2 picks it appears that all bets are off. I'm personally interested in seeing what the 49ers do as I think that will affect a lot of teams' decisions on whether they want to move up or down tonight.

Per the NFL, there's expected to be upwards of 50k fans in attendance. It'll be interesting to see what protocols they have in place.

Also, teams have their draft rooms up and running again, so we unfortunately won't be getting a live cameo from Belichick's dog.

Where:

Cleveland, OH

When:

Day 1: April 29 2021 @ 8pm ET//5pm PT
Day 2: April 30 2021 @ 7pm ET/4pm PT
Day 3: May 1 2021 @ 12pm ET/9am PT

How to Watch:

TV: ABC, ESPN, NFL Network, ESPN Deportes
Streaming: ESPN.com, NFL.com, ESPN app, NFL mobile app, or someone will likely be streaming it if you look hard enough and are willing to bounce around as they get copyright strikes

Can't wait, though I'm worried the Bears GM will be doing what's best to keep his job rather than what's best for the long term for the team.

Is there a short term fix that they may go after instead of a long term pick that you're worried about?

Broncos new GM has been a pleasant surprise for me so far so I'm really interested in what he's going to do tonight. But the thing is that this is Fangio's last chance here as a head coach. If the Broncos don't significantly improve on their record this year, I suspect he's definitely out. Thing is the offense has been such a disaster the past 4 years I'm not entirely sure he could have done anything about it.

How does it work? Do players get told where they have to play?
In a sense. What it really means is that the team that selects them has exclusive rights to sign them to their first contract.

However, it does not mean that they are forced to play for that team. It rarely happens but there are a couple notable examples of a player that was drafted by a team but basically refused to play for them.

Example 1. John Elway - He was drafted by the Balitmore Colts but he threatened to play baseball professionally if they didn't trade him. The Colts then traded him to the Denver Broncos.
Example 2. Eli Manning - He was drafted #1 overall by the San Diego Chargers, but he also informed them he did not want to play for them and they wound up trading him to the New York Giants.

The GM and possibly the head coach are pretty much on a win or you're out one year deal. The GM is best known for moving up one place in the draft to pick Mitch Trubisky instead of taking Mahomes or Watson. Trubisky has been a bust and right now we have Foles and Dalton as our QBs, many are thinking that the GM is going to throw away several first round picks to move up in the draft to get a QB again. If he does and the team sucks next year, which they likely will, he will be out and we have to deal with the mess of losing multiple first round picks for the next several years. Pretty much puts us back 3-4 years.

Already starting to get very interesting lol!

Insane this comes out day of the draft - wonder if someone in Rodgers' camp leaked it. Supposedly the Rams made a run at him in January. Packers are in an impossible position - negotiate a trade with just a few hours notice? Let it ride and hope he's bluffing? If these rumors are true hard to imagine Rodgers in a Packers uniform this September.

But they said Jimmy was their guy!

Future disclaimer - nothing against Jimmy if he ends up on my local team.

Rodgers is from N California, I could see him wanting to go to the 49ers.
On top of that, I think he's engaged to an actress, and the 49ers are a season removed from a superbowl appearance. I could definitely see him going there and being happy. And he'd be a great short term pick up for the 49ers as long as he stayed healthy. But the rumored offer in the tweet a bit above just seems like way to much. The 49ers traded a lot for that pick, and Rodgers turns 38 this year. TB12 is the greatest QB in history, but his age defiance is so far removed from even the typical world class athlete, that I just cannot fathom a deal that essentially would mean the 49ers gave up 3 firsts and more for a QB who everyone would think was on his way out had it not been for Brady's historic run for a 40+ year old.

LOL god they love milking this first pick. Jacksonville could have picked immediately as soon as the clock started.

I still think that picking a WR early in the first round is a stretch. It's such a dependent position. You can get separation all day but it's useless if your QB is garbage or if your OL is a turnstile.

A 4th, and 2022 1st and 5th is a steep price to pay to move up 9 spots. Hope Fields finally breaks the QB curse.

Yeah, idk what to think of this. We didn’t give up more than 1 first rounder, but it still seems like a lot to move up to 11. Also don’t know much about Fields, I’m hoping they don’t force him to play his rookie year if he’s not ready. We need OTs, multiple, and CBs. That’s all they should pick the rest of the draft.

Congrats to Bears fan, though. Getting Justin Fields at pick 11 was a steal.

lol, Trubisky. :messenger_grinning_smiling:

I'm pretty excited about the 49ers taking Lance at 3 even though I don't think he will be ready to start this year. Jimmy G should be a solid stop gap while Lance learns the playbook

Mac Jones to the Pats. I never know what will happen to an Alabama QB once they get into the NFL. Their recent track record isn't great.
Out of any team to draft Mac Jones, I think the Pats were probably the best fit. Josh McDaniels offense will probably be a nice transition to what he was doing in Alabama and the Belichick defense won't put too much pressure on him to be perfect.

I guess what I'm saying is I'm glad the niners didn't take Jones.

Of course he’s playing close to immediately, Pace isn’t making this trade thinking he has a year to let him develop. Pace negotiating against himself again and gives up more than necessary.

Yep, looking at the first round now why in the hell did Pace give up so much? He shouldn’t have needed to give up a first rounder next year to get that pick, or just the first rounder and no 4th and 5th. He seriously has no negotiating skills!

Not as much movement as I was expecting/hoping for. Honestly I think the biggest surprise were Fields and Jones slipping like they did.
