What was your biggest disappointment in 2024?

For me it's was easy: Eiyudan Chronicles.

I really liked Suikoden I and II on psx. I actually had bought Resident Evil first after begging my mom. Only one night of playing made me realize I was too much of a wuss for the game.

Go back to game stop and trade it in for suikoden which had some interesting characters on the cover.

I don't know if I didn't give Eiyuden enough time but it felt like baby's 1st rpg. The fights were way too easy; i just started using auto battle after 2 hours. I had a similar issue in dragon quest 3 hd but that game was enjoyable.

The story seemed totally uninspired. You gotta have more than the standard fantasy tropes now.

Just a slog of time really. What are your misses?

Biggest disappointment for me would have to be Dragon's Dogma 2. I really enjoyed the game and am positive about it overall but it was less a sequel and more a side-grade of the first game, if that.

Edit: Honorable mention to Playstation for their choices of what games to port to PC this past year. Big yawn...

I didn't really play any big games besides Silent Hill 2 I think.

I nominate Conscript. I don't think it's a BAD game by any means especially for a solo dev but it just looks like it would be massively my shit. I bought it Day 1, wrong move as it had serious balancing issues and bugs. I put it to the side and even after being patched up, the game just never grabbed me, felt unfun to actually play and never came together for me.

I was hoping for a Signalis but I just dropped it halfway through after three falae starts.

TBH I didn’t play anything disappointing in 2024. There are games that were trash but I wasn’t looking forward to them, so I wasn’t disappointed.

Was Factions 2 canceled in 2024? If so, that.
I think it was. Shit that was one of my most anticipated multiplayer games this decade. I got the new black ops but that's too kinetic for me half the time

Dragons Dogma 2... Which was just just Dragons Dogma 1.2.

I like Dragons Dogma and I love the the Dark Arisen expansion.... Dragons Dogma 2 is just a downgrade compared to the expansion.
Dd2 seems like a big one for alot of people. I see dragon age but I think alot of users here weren't gonna jive with it (me included especially after I liked inquistuon).

Hellblade 2 probably, but TDU Solar Crown from previous posts is a very good pick as well. I was never sold on the idea, but it still ended up being much worse than expected. Thankfully I managed to avoid making a purchase and having another catastrophe like last year's Forza Motorsport.

Good pick i was also very disappointed with it. Loved Suikoden but couldn't get into it after 10 hours or so i dropped it.

A big one was Dragon Age because i really liked the previous games (even inquisition) and played them multiple times. Didn't even try the new one. Saw enough from reviews and videos to turn me off completely. Didn't have much faith anyway in Bioware anymore though so biggest disappointment for me goes to FF7R2.

I think i dropped it about 30 hours in. There was too much shit in the game. I am not a fan of turning everything open world (i think the first game actually benefited with a more linear playstyle). People kept saying that the side quests were good this time but nope sucked as much as before though now there were more of them. Some of the mini games were cool but they were everywhere. Like stop at 3-4 at max.. It had i don't even know how many.

Too bad because i loved the FF7R first game. I was really excited for this but not for me (also fuck Chadley and his ai who wouldn't shut the fuck up for 5 seconds whatever she is called..).

Seeing people get laid off for sure. I didn't have high hopes for any of the games mentioned, so I was never going to be "disappointed" by them. But seeing how many studios have been closed and thinking about people going through that is just brutal. I hope the industry can stabilize this year.

Unironically, probably Concord.
While I do prefer single player games, I do miss the time when Sony also had some fun PVP multiplayer offerings like Killzone 2-3, Warhawk, TLOU Factions, etc
The idea of a multiplayer Sci Fi Shooter sounded interesting, and the fact Sony had apparently seen something so promising behind the scenes that they decided to straight up buy the studio gave it a bit of extra excitement. Out of all their GAAS stuff, this and factions were probably the only 2 I had some legit excitement about.
Then they showed the game and it was an instant "nope".

Runner up is probably Dragons Dogma 2, but I haven't played it. Skipped it at launch because of the dogshit performance, but from what I've read it seems to be basically more of the same which isn't what I wanted from it. DD1 was a flawed gem, this was supposed to be game to truly refine it and bring it to the next level, not repeat every issue of the original.

My biggest disappointment this year was that Hermen Hulst got to keep his job. Loved seeing all the layoffs and studio closures from the past two years, definitely hope they'll continue into 2025 because there's just too much brainrot and bloat in the industry. But it was disappointing to see that out of over 30,000 jobs lost, Hulst's wasn't one of them.

We'll see after Fairgame$ 🤞🏻

Wait was Veilguard a disappointment? I feel like expected is the correct word. Nobody should've expected anything good from Bioware, and the trailers made it clear the game was going to be a turd sandwich.

Dragon's Dogma 2 felt like an actual disappointment. 12 year wait and Hideaki Itsuno learned and did nothing to improve the faults of the last game.

Among games I played: Dragon's Dogma 2, for reasons explained by others above.

Among games I didn't play: Dragon Age Veilguard, disappointing because I was excited to finally see the conclusion of Solas' story, ending up skipping it for obvious reasons.

Tbh nothing truly disappointed me on the contrary plenty of things I liked or surprised me positively.
I would have liked Star Wars Outlaws and Dragon Age to be much better games, but all the gameplay footage disappointed me so I skipped them both but no big deal.
No next Bioshock announcement, no second GTAVI trailer were also a disappointment.

Can't say i was expecting a 10\10 after playing the deeply flawed dogma 1, but dogma 2 was even worse than i expected.

Rebirth is a disappointment just for existing on this planet instead of a proper remake.

SW Outlaws being another disaster for the franchise

After the ratings for their latest TV shows, Star Wars Outlaws bombing was the moment I realized Star Wars is no longer one of the Heavy Hitters of big IPs. The brand name alone used to guarantee money and success. Not anymore. There's been too many flops in a row now.

By far my biggest disappointment is the cancellation of Last of Us Online.

Veilguard is not a disappointment. Even if you're shaking with rage seeing women in a videogame, it's easily the best Bioware game since 2014.

Nah, didn't feel like a Bioware game at all to me and no, that has nothing to do with "seeing women in a videogame" or even the pisspoor identity politics. Just isn't Dragon Age.

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
The biggest disappointment for me is that nvidia never supported SteamOS.

I am hoping this changes real quick at CES.

In terms of bombs. Concord is easily the biggest bomb and Sony needs to fire who ever truly greenlight that game....unless it was Jim Ryan.

In terms of personal disappointment, I'd go with Dragons Dogma 2. The performance is just too dog shit for a game that visually unpleasing.

Darkness no more
Metaphor for me. It ended up just being another Persona game, but I did not find it to be a good game. I'm sure some of the other games listed meet the requirements of being a disappointment more, but I never had any hype for them to start.
