3DS Emulator Citra Boots First Commercial Game

It's awesome seeing progress with this. I love my 3DS games but I'm just not made for portable playing, big screen and proper gamepad all the way for me.

Puzzle n Dragons Z + Mario now gets in-menu thanks to the latest update! :o

What does HD mean in this context? I do notice some scaling going on, but it also looks like its rendering above the 3DS native res. Any idea what res its actually rendering at?

Either way, WOW. That is really good.

To be honest I'm not entirely sure. I'm assuming at least 720p based off of the title but other than that I don't know. It's possible it might be lower than that too.

Edit: I tried doing some amateur pixel counting and I suspect it's probably closer to 540p based on the aliasing in the video.

If it's not 720p, it's very nearly so with one of those vaseline AA solutions. The HUD is always going to look pixelated without a texture mod to give it higher res assets.

I'm pretty much code-illiterate but when the HD setting in the config is enabled, the framebuffer size apparently gets doubled so maybe 800x480 for the topscreen?
Anyway, I took and cropped a few screenshots in Citras "fullscreen" mode while my desktop res was set to 3840x2160.

Looks pretty good! MH games are still a no-go though and just crash or show an eternal blackscreen *sobs*
E: I'll take that back, itssomething.jpg (MH3G, MH4 looks similar, MH4G doesn't boot at all due to new3ds stuffs)

That definitely looks right.

I look forward to the next step of 1600x960 =p

There you go ;P GORGEOUS. This is as far as I can go in terms of non-downsampled screenshots btw, since there is no way that I know of to seperate top and bottom screen at the moment and both get resized when using Citras fullscreen mode; so 1700x1000ish is the max size for the topscreen at 4K desktop res.

btw even Cheat Engine works =P http://puu.sh/ivgPt/87c2cad89e.jpg

As a 3ds owner, i'm SUPER happy. Can't wait until i can dual-analog and 4x resolution my way through 3DS games.

Aha, seeing cheat engine work is cool. I'd expect it would, but it's still a fun little thing. Those screenshots look really, really great.

Ahhhhh I'm gonna have to get around to figuring out Citra soon, that looks to great to not want to mess around with. Also, I'm fairly certain I know a way you could get even HIGHER downsampled screenshots if you wanted. Feel free to PM me about it Vuze if you'd like.

To be fair Microsoft themselves have got a working 360 emulator on even weaker hardware.
But Xenia and Citra are making excellent progress. Citra might even be useable before the year ends

Why the "To be fair" part? Also, Microsoft have all of the documentation for and know all the ins and outs of the 360 and XONE, since they made both. It also helps that they're a multi-billions dollar corporation. I would HOPE they would have an easier time getting an emulator going (even if their emulation doesn't offer all the bells and whistles that PC ones do.)

Great shots, that logo looks delicious

That's pretty damn incredible.

I am really surprised how fast this is developing. People were saying how we could comfortably play emulated 3DS games in a matter of years, now it seems like a matter of months.

Anyone got the newest Citra build? GitHub confuses me so much lol

Are you looking for the latest development version or the fork that people are using for these high resolution renderings?

The main Citra GitHub page is here: https://github.com/citra-emu/citra

And the glsl-plus-hd fork is here: https://github.com/tfarley/citra/tree/glsl-plus-hd

You can also download a compiled version of the fork from EmuCR: http://www.emucr.com/2015/06/citra-glsl-plus-hd-git-20150619.html

hmmmm mine just keeps on crashing saying that there is a ROM load error :c

just got it working after following that crazy decryption tutorial

holy shit, I can't believe how well this runs. quick shot I took:

I'm going to be able to play OOT (and maybe MM3D) in full 1080p HD and fullspeed (it's halfway there already!) with a 360/Wii U Pro controller on my TV by the end of this year. this is insane. I'm already running around kokiri forest!

By the time this is actually usable to play games, the 3DS won't even be an active platform anymore. On the other hand, preservation of the libraries of older systems through emulation is incredibly valuable, and I'm cheering it on so these games can live forever.

amen!
Not all games get remakes or rereleases, preserving them is what we as gaming community must do as it represents our whole gaming history.

This is so damn rad. Maybe one day we can play translations of un-imported stuff :o

Or kid icarus with a real control scheme?

Maybe I'll hold off on playing through Majora's Mask since this looks soooo much better

You guys could tell me how to rip my 3DS games?

I just bought Cubic Ninja from a fellow GAFer so I'll use my 3DSXL as a homebrew machine while I use my N3DSXL for the legit 3DS stuff. :P

use the gateway launcher, launch via ninjhax. you dont need a gateway to rip your games.

I recently did a 100% playthrough of Majora's Mask but I would absolutely play it again if it looked this good.

it will do

after testing this out, and seeing just how damn good OOT runs (albeit at a low framerate in outdoor areas right now), I'm confident we will be able to play through it and MM3D just fine by the end of the year

speed of progress is insane. This is like, at the level Dolphin got to after about three years.

i have no idea

but this shit works full speed when inside the interiors in kokiri forest. It's incredible.

I can upload a video if you guys want.

What are you waiting fooooooooooooooor

Did anyone tried Smash Bros 3DS? I would love to play it on my PC, since the screen its just too small
