5 Things I Learned as the Internet's Most Hated Person

I can't take anything she might say about herself being a victim seriously after seeing her encourage people to send her nasty messages over twitter.

Lol if you believe anything this dumb cunt writes.

She deserves everything she got. She mad.

I do not like her way of phrasing herself, her game, or the way she acted in her personal life. But this is GAF, and we try and avoid typing like this IMO.

a bit presumptuous and almost narcissistic to think you are the most hated person in the internet... even if you are being hyperbolic, no?

Yeah, because it is indeed the most appealing title anyone should try to achieve, isn't it? The achievement of a life time.

Search for your own sources. It's called censorship. Woah there white knight.

"She did X, Y, and Z."

"Okay, where's your evidence?"

"There's no evidence, which is proof that the evidence was censored."

This is a fantastic line of reasoning and only good things can result from continuing it.

Do some of the people here defending Gamergate realise they're reaching hilarity that's rivalling;

a) Illuminati
b) Reptilian overlords
c) 911 Conspiracies
d) Moon landing was faked

When all this is about is about a female game developer who is allegedly sleeping around with game journalists to give good reviews of her free game?

Really guys, really?

So you're saying she's lying about the whole thing, or what?

OF HER FREE GAME

this alone should have shown literally everyone that this is the dumbest shit

In terms of say, hateful messages and harassment being directed at one individual? I would believe it. At its fever pitch I doubt any one individual was getting more harassment or focused hate.

Diffuse hate yeah that's another matter

Don't forget crab ppl

Does that mean people don't hate Phil Fish the most now?

I expect he will be celebrating then. My sympathy goes out to Zoe, as the entire situation was world class horse shit, that has nothing to do with anyone but herself and her ex.

There's also the other side of the coin, if anyone is interested:

Edit: Never mind.

a bit presumptuous and almost narcissistic to think you are the most hated person in the internet... even if you are being hyperbolic, no?

I thoought the same thing, actually.

I still have no idea why this blew up so much

Sexists were able to misappropriate their bashing of Zoe Quinn into some kind of grand stand against "corrupt games journalists", ignoring every other case of non-sexual events that show a lack of good journalism from the games media, and using this to play a game of six degrees of separation to further demonize anyone with vague links to anything Zoe Quinn was associated with, including people like Anita Sarkeesian.

What miscommunication from her end! Honestly curious. People keep aluding to stuff like this

Not just her, I'm referring to both ends of the GamerGate thing.

The closest I would give to Zoe in regards to miscommunication is her questionable tweets but that's borderline victim blaming.

you haven't heard of phil fish? or a certain MS employee who inadvertently invented the meme #dealwithit? Anita Sarkesian?

any publicity is good publicity. especially for an indie dev.

Yes, every indie dev is just waiting for the day his life becomes a living hell. Who doesn't love to get a million death threats a day, so you can sell more copies of your freeware game? Absolutely worth it.

Just some opinions on the subject.

  • Both sides of this argument are ruined by the extremists.
  • I don't think journalists or bloggers should be paying the artists they cover via patreon.
  • I think Zoe Quinn is playing the victim to a sickening degree. Faking DDOS attacks and all that nonsense. Even look at this clickbait article.
  • People sending death threats is always wrong and pathetic but that's just the stupidity of the internet that exists today.
  • Game journalists stating that all gamers are white males. That is just plain extremist social justice warrior bullshit. It was really nice seeing Twitter fight back against this ridiculous label.

whats wrong with you?!
Zoe Quin is a victim, and while yeah "most hated on the internet" is pretty hyperbolic, she is a victim.

dismissing death threats as "oh thats just the internet" is the wrong way to go about this, threats should be dealt with no matter where or why they occurred.

the things that happened to Zoe are abhorrent. and while yeah the games media can be a bit shitty, this was totally the wrong thing to blow it all up about. its just bought out the worst in all those involved :/

Wasn't there already a couple of dedicated threads for this? I don't want to thread-whine, it's just that the OP does not provide the full context, and there are already plenty of posts above where people seem to miss some important details of the story (a nice bold warning from mods in the beginning was also an important feature of previous thread which helped).

My 2 cents.

I don't like Zoe Quinn and don't find her to be a very respectable person. That being said, people need to leave the Quinn topic alone. As far as I'm concerned the real issues behind #GamerGate and all of that BS stopped being about Quinn a good while ago.

You just wait. In 2-4 years Microsoft will be giving Zoe 3 billion dollars for Depression Quest. 3. billion. dollars.

This may be shocking to you, but gamers as a whole are not a bunch of sexually repressed and angry nerds sitting in their mom's basement. The community is quite a bit more diverse than that.

Saying that a bunch of gamers are repressed, woman-hating basement dwellers is not the same thing as saying all gamers are those things.

Will someone please elaborate on what their issues with her are?

Will someone please elaborate on what their issues with her are?

Or, hell, even the real issues behind #gamergate?

I mean, answer his question first, he asked first after all.

But after that lets sit down and discuss cause that hashtag is a hell of a mess of dogwhistled sexism.

I've seen this. It isn't a side its a barely coherent rant with about as much basis in reality of that video floating around about the way inventor and his dog flying to the moon to restock on cheese

I'm new to this whole fiasco so I'm still trying to find the middle ground. Do you have any source that you would consider non-biased and actually focused on the real problem?

I am completely against trolls venting personal information about any individual on the internet though, regardless if there's some truth about some of the allegations against her.

I'm not even sure what GamerGate is supposed to be about anymore. Some use the hashtag to defend gamers, some use it to voice their problems with game journalism, some use it to say stuff about specific people in the game industry, and some use it to make fun of the hashtag. It's just a confusing mess.
