timeline order, granted that is pretty much release order except the ova macross zero is first because it is a prequel to the original series

each macross series is pretty much self-contained (except macross 7 has 3 characters from the original returning)
but if you don't watch the original then you'll miss out on minmay
edit: it must aslo be stated that while plus is gorgeous (both the OVA version and the film version), it's also kind of different from other series because there's no alien threat to humanity and it's set with a much smaller scale

At least one person said The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. It didn't change my life but it was the anime that truly got me into the medium. I can also relate to the same woman that I too watched it in high school.

Dawww. I just had the cutest Smash Bros match ever. 2 complete strangers and all 3 of us had different color Kirbys. The match begins and no one is violent. We just dodge, taunt, grab and let go, suck in and let out... Eventually sudden death bombs ended our short little party.
