Is it OK if I talk NGEva here for a bit? I'll spoiler tag it just in case so...
First off, I'm not the biggest robot guy out there so really I don't really go crazy for the battles. For me the main draw has been the characters. Besides, even though the Angels are supposed to destroy the human race I don't really get exactly why that is happening but I take it that will be explained. Like yes they have been here before, now they are back again.
The regular weapons that the army uses are no match for them so these special Evas are the only thing that can stop them and literally save the human race. It just doesn't seem that dramatic. Like we kind of expect the Evas to obviously win though as I understand it if the main character would have faltered they would have pretty much nothing to fall back on (in the first episode). Perhaps the tone doesn't fit the seriousness of the implications in my mind. To compare it to another huge anime series, Cowboy Bebop, there many episodes that are kinda chill but when things get very serious the tone fits. It is dramatic and all the characters understand that this is life or death and emotions are truly expressed through words, eyes, and action. in NGE I haven't really gotten the sense of this life or death expression. Though the scene where Rei is saved by the main character's father is one that felt very good emotionally.
I guess NGE feels more like Avengers than The Dark Knight emotionally in the sense of drama. Like oh boy here is just another Angel, go fight it kid even though you're still shaky as hell but it will work out I guess, in stead of, holy shit, an angel, this is it guys, either this kid saves us or we are all fucked in the next 10 minutes, everyone drop everything and glue your eyes to this fight, fuck the budget, fuck the jokes, life or death, now now now.
I just finished episode 9 where the German girl and the main character do the synchronized fight. I must say that was a cool scene. I'm ok with a little bit of theatrical flair. I just guess the weight of the battles is a little underwhelming so far. Other than the main character having a hard time adjusting I haven't felt enough drama for the reality that these characters are in. It's good. I'm enjoying the characters, the fan service is... more than I expected especially with these barely teen characters but whatever, I'm dying to know more about the main character and his relationship with his father, Misato is really the coolest.

Things will slowly move into motion in some of the short scenes during the earlier episodes but that's about it.

Glad to see you're enjoying it though!

I don't really get what you mean by this but everyone has a different opinion on drama I guess, it definitely differs from episode to episode though, most are more of a way to give character development, like that Asuka and Shinji synch fight.
It's still heavily implied that if they were to lose a fight humanity would be set back by far.

Are you watching Dub or Sub btw?

Dark Knight vs Avengers spoilers
OK this is probably stupid on my part but for example in the Avengers movie (I only saw the first) even during the massive fights that should bring the world to it's knees it's still kind of jokey. Like here's Hulk punching Thor, here's Hulk slamming Loki side to side. "I'm bringing the party to you guys" Iron Man bit. During that fight I never felt like the Avengers could actually lose. I didn't feel the weight of the battle. In the Dark Knight I can't imagine Batman giving Gordon a slap on the ass or saying something like "the Jokes on you" or something like that. It's serious because the situation is serious. Avengers feels light hearted whereas The Dark Knight feels more like an emotion that would be expressed by actual living people. That one suit dude in Avengers dies, the characters are bummed but it's nothing to Bruce 's emotion when his ex girlfriend dies (ok to be fair one is a working buddy the other is someone you used to have an intimate relationship with).
Anyways I'm trying to say that the level of drama and grounded-ness is different. One feels like it could somehow happen, while the other feels like this is no way possible in our world at all only in terms of tone alone.
I'm watching the sub of NGE

Tbh this would be better to discuss when you've seen a bit more of the show ;p

Anyhow, drama isn't really why one would watch the Avengers, the fight is more of a way to showcase our roster of cool characters.

Drama in NGE is kinda debatable, due to it's episodic nature every episode should be judged differently, most are used to develop characters and as such the tension kinda fluctuates between the episodes, some require higher stakes and more brutal fights (episode 1) while some just require an Angel with an interesting gimmick (the synch fight)

The show only get's better as time goes on.

It's my last day of my fixed-term contract in my company. I should be like this:

But as I do most of my work too fast I'm like this:

For me, as long as I live close to work is better to clock in and clock out instead of working by objectives, since 90% of the time you end working overtime due to bad planning (bosses fault). That how things are in the IT area at least in my country. It's better to have a working hours cap.

Then I've just have to run some errands about my end of contract and then finish my plans for my trip to Japan which is on August 24 til October 16.

IDK if to stay in touch with my GAF group would be better to open a line account or just communicate by twitter.

Hugs!
