80s style synth-pop/electro synth/cyberpunk music

Dance with the Dead is planning a vynil release of all three albums (posted today on FB).

Let's hope it goes through, can't wait to buy physical copies of Out of Body, Into the Abyss and the latest Near Dark.

Le Cassette might be something for you. Check out Left to Our Own Devices, it's still very "eighties" but rather uplifting. Lots of vocals too.

The "eighties" sound is pretty fundamental to the genre though, no matter how you slice it.

Yeah, that's why I sorta added the more "up beat" part to it.
Thank you so much for this....

...and this....

try some Dreamwave and general SpaceSynth, also look into good old Italo.

...and this....

Not at all this genre but since you don't want something eighties sounding and upbeat, try Serph. Very upbeat, that particular album is quite fun.

...and all these suggestions!! :)

It's definitely been much more my speed --- so thanks, everyone!
(I'm sorry it took so long to reply.)

So I noticed that Electric Youth's Innerworld is up for streaming online. I started to stream it but it looked sketchy/illegal and was terrible quality. It was definitely legit though

As much as I like it, anyone have recommendations that sound the same, but slightly less 80's? Or something a bit more 'cheerful' or 'upbeat' sounding at the very least?

Not really cheerful but as far as never stuff goes you can't really go wrong with dream wave. Check out Real Estate and Youth Lagoon.

I might actually buy a record player for DWTD.

I listened to Carpenter Brut, but it didn't quite strike the same chord as DWTD (it was really good though!)

Anyone have any other recommendations?

So glad I stumbled across this thread. I will start checking into all of these links. Any recommendations for someone just getting into this music?

The Soundtrack for the film "The Guest" is oozing with 80s synth.

I love these kind of threads. I mostly lurk. I don't have time to look for music and anything worth looking into I'll find by chance but that's rare. So threads like this are a superb shortcut to sweet musics.

Some news from the Dance with the Dead Facebook page:

So we have a nice surprise for you.....we've been receiving a lot of emails asking why we haven't released certain demo songs that are floating around out there in the world. Well, on Dec. 25th we will be releasing a "B-Sides" record. These aren't necessarily new songs, but stuff we've written over the last couple years that just never seemed to make it on any of our records. Some of these songs you might have heard...and some have never left our hard drive. These are the lost songs that need to find a good home in your ears. You will dig them Thank you so much for supporting DWTD! You guys mean the world to us!!!!

If you're looking for a movie with a great synth soundtrack (that I did not expect at all), check out 'Cold in July'. Great thriller.
