80s style synth-pop/electro synth/cyberpunk music

Near Dark is beautiful, but I think I'll need to listen to it more times. Dance With The Dead clicked with me more (and had more songs). Still amazing anyway.

Wow, what a line up. Would kill to see Waveshaper live, do they perform in the states at all? Strong poster work btw, looks great.

Near Dark is fucking amazing. It could be my favourite DWTD album.

That's one hello of a playlist with Out of Body / Into the Abyss / Near Dark.

I really want to download/buy some some of the better song selections in this genre/group. I don't suppose you guys have a comprehensive list of a 'best of' or something similar that the community has agreed that you can point me to do you? Having listened to electro music in a while, really want to get back into it but a lot of the shit in clubs makes me feel like an old timer when I still listen to older Armin, Benny, and similar.

I already have Hotline Miami OST and Kavinsky albums but I'd love to have more songs to listen to.

and on that note, i could make a "current top 10 albums" list even to entertain myself, others should do similar ones :D

Can this Dance with the Dead release be bought in physical format? I would LOVE to own this on vinyl. It's a shame that most of those releases are digital only! I want physical too!

Haha, same here! First time i came in this thread i left with a lot of music to buy. When i came back, there was a crater in my wallet xD

the upside is that two of the first on the list were Dance with the Dead and Lazerhawk. Those two hurt my wallet the most. Since I bought albums, not single songs. Already building my playlist on my music list.

Just finished listening to this for the fourth time, still get goosebumps all over:

Listen here.

It's a fourteen minute continuous mix of Varien and 7 Minutes Dead's new EP 'Mirai Sekai' and one of the best pieces of electronic music I've heard in quite some time.
A melodic mid-tempo journey through a variety of styles (such as 80's synth, VGM, epic film score) that is somehow cohesive throughout. Very impressive and definitely worth a listen!

public service announcement,

Perturbator Glow in the Dark vinyls, T-shirts and signed posters go on sale in 10 minutes from this post. 3PM UK-time or so. edit: (vinyls and signed posters sold out)
They will be sold out in like 15 minutes flat. Shirts might be on-order basis so they should not run out as they make the amount of shirts ordered.

I managed to buy two copies of the 3d-anaglyph vinyls, I was late to the glow-in-the-dark party, sadly.

Perturbator is turning into quite the rockstar, isn't he?

Limited edition signed posters, haha.

The Dance with the Dead people have released three albums in one year. Wow. When's the next one? I've only listened to DWTD for the last few days and I'm not getting tired of it, and I want more.

Can anyone recommend any other albums/artists with a similar vibe to DWTD? There's something about DWTD that scratches an itch I didn't know I had.

Carpenter Brut has a similar high octane, dark 80s vibe, in my opinion. Not the same but similar. Brut and DWTD are the two things I listen to the most, these days.

I was just going to post that I've been listening to Dance with the Dead all of yesterday for the first time and it really is great. One of the tracks made me go back to Miami Nights 1984, but they aren't entirely the same. I just love that song.

Wow. I think I've found a new genre that I want to listen to.

Hell, I want to start MAKING music like this.

Thanks for posting these guys, I'll check them out.

Listening to Carpenter Brut right now.

So do I! Dance with the Dead has given me more motivation to practice with my guitar in the last three days than I had in the previous six months.

As much as I like it, anyone have recommendations that sound the same, but slightly less 80's? Or something a bit more 'cheerful' or 'upbeat' sounding at the very least?

Le Cassette might be something for you. Check out Left to Our Own Devices, it's still very "eighties" but rather uplifting. Lots of vocals too.

The "eighties" sound is pretty fundamental to the genre though, no matter how you slice it.

Not at all this genre but since you don't want something eighties sounding and upbeat, try Serph. Very upbeat, that particular album is quite fun.
