Nice! And somehow I didn't know about that Synths of Rage album. Holy fuck it's good (Streets of Rage is one of my favourite series ever). Both of these are gonna get a lot of play this week.

I'll definitely check this and Synths of Rage out. Two of my most beloved game franchises in the 16-bit era given the synth treatment, I can't go wrong right?

By the way, who is that dime piece in your avatar?

Guise,

Im very new to the genre. Every time I make a thread about Hotline Miami's soundtrack I get directed here.

I love the HM 1 and 2 soundtrack. My favorite song in HM2 is Run by I am the kid. I checked out more of their songs on band camp and it was horrible. Which is unfortunate because I think Run is brilliant. I look into Purtrubator's music next.

Anyways, do you have any recommendations for a listener who has only dipped their toe in the pool?

Nathalie Emmanuel from Game of Thrones.

Ah, I knew she looked familiar. I've been slacking on Game of Thrones lately, left off at season 4. She was definitely one of the highlights of that season.

Topic related...Can anyone share with me any artists that feature vocalists? I think this is a genre that truly shines when competent vocalists are teamed with skilled producers, which seems to be a rare thing at the moment.

Time for me to pimp one of my favourite local bands, De Vito.

It's not 100% retrosynth, but as they define themselves, the bastard hybrid of Motorhead and French house, or electro with balls. And it's pretty awesome. Some lyrics are in Spanish. Others in English. A bunch in French. More than a few are purely instrumental.

I had the opportunity to watch them live not so long ago and they are heavy as fuck. Keep in mind that not all of their tracks fit the theme of this thread, but some of them have a very retroelectro, chiptuney feel.

Selected tracks:

Domi Mors Electro
Hikimori
On Fire
Barbara Rave
Búscate un Jacks

Compilations, can we talk compilations? So what are some of the more highly regarded ones that should be listened to, I've been binging on them lately, mostly just to discover new stuff, but none yet have stood out as being great albums, some have a few good songs sure, but being mixed in mostly meh songs makes for an overall poor listen.

Oh and Dance With The Dead, I need more of this, I've looked around but nothing has come even close to this for me. I started with Perturbator then found out about Dance With The Dead through a recommendation when asking for more stuff like Perturbator, so don't say Perturbator :p. I don't think Dance With The Dead can be topped, but I'd love to be proven wrong.
