Good article.

Drive wasn't scored by Clint Mansell though, so that's one nitpick.

No nitpick, that's a pretty big goof!

Martinez himself is a little hard to classify. That stuff he did for The Knick for example has some obvious 80s inspiration but still nothing close to retro. I love that guy's work. Nice to have a mainstream composer who really has a truly unique sound of his own.

Just a heads-up that there's a "Future 80s" bundle over at Groupees that's still in pre-order phase for the next half-hour or so. Has 8 albums and is currently going for a dollar (likely $2 when the bundle goes live). I'm sure a lot of you remember how awesome the Synthwave bundle was, and I have a feeling this one will be just as good.

One of the announced bonuses is VHS Dreams' "Trans Am", which sounds amazing!

Edit: Bundle is live.

$1:

Block 35 - Central Control
Cluster Buster - Total Terror
Midnight Driver - Step Into the Neon Grid
VHS Dreams - EP
Video Video - Planet of Storms
(Bonus #1 - Cluster Buster - Knee Deep in the Dead)
(Bonus #2- VHS Dreams - Trans Am)

$2:

Python Blue - A Dark Future
Ron Cannon - Blue Light Murder
Z6B3R - Telstar 12

I haven't been here for a long time since this thread moved to Community.

We've gone mainstream, boys!

Comedy Central's Moonbeam City trailer.

Can't wait to watch this. :)

Nice read. I wish they have mention Hotline Miami in the article because that's how I (and maybe everyone else) got into this genre.

And while I was away, I finally bought Carpenter Brut's "Trilogy". Now I'm in love.

We're at 65% until Trans-Am unlocks -- it seems like we should have no problem breaking $2,000 in the next 12 days.

Dance With The Dead have come out with a new version of The Poison. It foregoes the original version's electronic focus and is more of a pure electronic metal track. The track is still absolutely mental though.

Wow, love the chorus in this version.

I wouldn't mind if they did some more songs like this on their next album. Some of the songs on the last album sounded a bit samey.

I was wrong. EPII is not a dud. It might be Brut's best EP.

Looking For Tracy Tzu is an incredible song.

Brut does a great job at incorporating some form of vocals, but having them accentuate the music itself, instead of dominating the entire song.

Yeah, pretty much all of the tracks in epII are amazing. Not sure how you got the idea that it was a dud. I mean, dat sexkiller on the loose alone...

I don't know what I was thinking. lol.

Maybe it's because the more I search for more synth wave, the more it all sounds the same to me. I listened to EPII at the wrong time.

I'm trying my hardest to like Dance with the Dead. Excluding Into the Abyss, nothing really grabs me. I feel like their songs have great hooks, but other than that, the song just happens. It chugs along relying on the hook, and then it fizzles out. I have all of their albums now, so everyone please recommend me your favorite tracks and I'll start by giving those another chance.

My top 8 tracks + Thrasher from Out of Body and Signals from Send the Signal.

And they keep teasing their new album on Facebook. I neeeeed it.

Hey, my synth-listening friends!

A few month ago I posted about some dude calling himself DUETT. He hadn't done much, but he still became one of my favorite synth-composers with the few songs he did.

It's taken quite a while, but here's his new album and the waiting was worth it. Seriously, don't pass this up.

Don't forget to listen to his old album, if you haven't yet.

This is really nice. Fits my Sunday perfectly :D
