Given i have heard good things about the first one, the features and importantly the price for something that apparently feels at least xbox quality I slapped down a preorder, not released in the UK until April. But my current Xbox series controller is starting to get a bit of drift in Space Marine 2 on PC I'm going to take the chance.

Looks good.

Take a look at gamesir controllers, they are a bit cheaper than 8bitdo but they still have hall effect sticks and triggers and 1000hz polling rate.

I was recently on the hunt for a controller and I passed them up because the come only wired. I don't know if anything changed.

That's the main reason I haven't gotten the Flydigi Vadar 4. Mouse switches for the face buttons... uggghh.
With all the talk of the Vader 4 I could easily have bought one without knowing. Everyone hypes it up but no one mentions that.

I had some problems with the original with some games, like Space Marine 2, and some others. Also not being able to freely configure the buttons left me a bit perplexed (for example I can't set F12 for screenshots on a back button). Also the profiles don't work in BT mode, but only in wireless mode. Great pad, but I'll pass this one.

Testing out Hugo in Third Strike (30th Anniversary Edition Steam) and SPDs don’t work for me on the dpad… at all. Frustrating. Don’t get this controller if you enjoy fighting games and main grapplers.

Fucking annoying.

-edit-

Works fine in SF6 with Gief.

I appreciate the insight. These are the critically important details you don't normally hear.

Have the first Ultimate, and it's decent... but I found something far superior. It's the Gamesir Cyclone 2.

I highly, highly recommend everyone to consider this controller. It's exceptional. and Not expensive. I got mine for $43!

TMR Sticks, microswitch buttons, hall effect triggers, dock, 1000hz polling...

Here's a review from a decent reviewer on YouTube who waxes lyrical about it:

I absolutely love mine. Still might get the 8bitdo Ultimate 2 though... Cos I was going to get a second Cyclone 2. Tough decision ahead! will wait for reviews/comparisons.

One thing is for certain though... we are living in the golden age of third-party controllers. Even budget (i.e. low cost) options are superior to anything first party. Crazy times.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Not sure if it was posted yet, but they finally put a page up about this:

Those lighting mode options look great!

Think I might have to get this. 8bitdo is the best controller manufacturer by a mile. They absolutely embarrass the first parties.

The tactile "improved" dpad on these starting with the xbox ultimate 3 mode is pure trash if you intend to play fighting games with a controller. You can't accurately roll your thumb on the dpad. Try doing half circle forward specials from a crouch position. (Gonna have a bad time).

Maybe I have a lemon controller or I gotta break it in but that is par for the course with their older models and the bad dpad lottery pre Pro 2.

8bitdo is the best at releasing new hardware with a catch. Two steps forward and one step back with each revision. The 1st Gen ultimate controller has a snes mushy style dpad that is sufficient for Contra and fighting games but it has mushy R1 and L1 buttons that feel like they could get stuck.

The Xbox 3-mode edition fixes that with their fantastic subtle clicky R1 and L1 buttons but then you get the tactile dpad that is sufficient for menu navigation or side scrollers that only require you to hold left or right to move but not good for fighting games/ Contra.

Im going to see if I can take the snes mushy membranes from the gen 1 dpad and put it in the Xbox 3 mode.

Besides the dpad the Xbox 3 mode controller is fantastic but then at that point I might as well use a 360 controller if I'm going to forfeit the use of the dpad when I play Contra and fighting games.

Besides not being compatible with the switch, a potential con of the soon to be released Ultimate 2 would be the joystick led ring having a matte finish. While both the 3 mode and ultimate 2 have metal joystick shafts, the ultimate 2 might not feel as smooth and amazing as the Xbox 3 mode (which has a glossy finish on the joystick perimeter ring for smooooth gliding).

Also this company needs to bootleg whatever tech Microsoft does to be able to sync multiple controllers to one adapter on PC.

Nice features. But i just dont like the ergonomics of it. Its just a bit too small for my hands. Furthermore are the edges here and there a bit sharp. You can get used to it but its not ideal.

The Gamesir Cyclone 2 feels better but i dont really like microswitch buttons. they are so damn loud. >.< (Start and select buttons are also a pain to hit properely) I also dont like the pedals on both. I dont need pedals and they always get in the way.

I really like the Gamesir Tarantula Pro. Perfect Facebuttons, you can tightly look the pedals so they dont disturb paired with a perfect fit and finish. Sadly very expensive. :(

Yeah never been the biggest fan of mine, its the handles. They are parallel to each other so it feels like it pins your elbows in, very un-natural especially if you have giant bicepts like me.

I have been messing about with the Cyclone 2 which again is a great controller, but I dont think I like the mechanical buttons, very clicky and I just like membranes better.

Recently went back to old faithful the elite series 2 and now back to the KK3 pro which in my opinion has the best face buttons, d pad, sticks and extremely smooth triggers.

I like gadgets though so maybe ill pick this up just to see.
Major improvement is the metal ring on the sticks, makes a massive difference.

8bitdo said (on Taobao) that their controller models with docks, are designed for Asian market who typical have smaller hands than Europe/US market

Well that's it, as a big handed guy i'm never gonna buy one of their controllers just for that reason.

They said their controllers with the docks are for smaller hands, so you can still check out their other models.

I grabbed a purple ultimate 2c for my wife instead of another ultimate for myself. I have 2x Pro 2s as well.

The 2c was only $25 with hall sticks and triggers with extra bumpers as well like wtf crazy deal.

I've tried using both the Ultimate C and the original Ultimate controller for Switch and I just can't get used to them due to the ergonomics. I think what I've narrowed it down to is that the handles aren't as angled outward as the Xbox controller or Dualsense.

Why the fuck does it look like there are six buttons in the front and only two on the bottom.

Could be better for what I know, just asking..

Yeah it's the main thing I'm afraid of with these controllers. Just in pictures they seem uncomfortable to hold because of the shape.

This looks so good that I was about to pull the trigger because my Xbox controller L button broke inside, but I have another Xbox controller with drift somewhere else and decided to disarm both and swap the piece of plastic for that button and called it a day. Whenever my controller gets drift I'll get this one... And it will, eventually, Nintendo gets a lot of shit for the joycons drift but it's everyone doing the same shit these days.

Hope they release a version that can be used out of the box with the PS5.

That will require licensing from Sony. Thing is Sony only works with luxury brand like Razer for 3rd party controllers. That’s why you will seldom if not never see any PS5 3rd party controllers cheaper than DualSense.

Too bad this doesn't work with the PS5 (their Ultimate Bluetooth Controller doesn't either I think?), one of my friends is looking for an affordable controller with Hall Effect joysticks and back paddles... yeah, good luck with that.

Please tell me you can disable all these stupid lights!
Yeah 100...their 8bit do controller configurator is fantastic.

It lets you adjust all sorts of settings and the best part it is all stored on the controller. you don't need their software running to have the changes stick (pun intended)!

Hello, I’m curious if anyone has tried the 8Bitdo Ultimate Controller with Mister Much and what you think of it. I’ve tried Bluetooth and it seems “fine” but it’s got serious range issues for me that the sn30 pro+ does not, e.g.: random input drops or lag up to 1-2 seconds at something like 10ft. It’s got a 2.4g mode and a dongle for it but I suspect somebody would have to write a driver to make it work with Mister.

Does anyone have any experience using a controller with a 3rd shoulder button like this? How does it feel, can you easily press it without hitting the regular bumper?

The 8bitdo ultimate 2 controller just got delivered to the house. Ended up with a White one.
Mine is defective. The right bumper is stuck in does not click or move. :(

Well, the controller itself is a bit smaller than a Series X controller. People with large hands might not like it.
The charging stand is nice and heavy. Got it plugged into my PC and a light bar is showing it's charging.
The D-pad is quiet but clicky, I can feel the dpad buttons clicking in, but the noise is nowhere near as loud as the Series X controller.
I'll see if I can unstick the bumper maybe the plastic is just stiff, but I might have to return it.

edit-got it unstuck. I used a toothpick and just picked it out from under the trigger, pop, it was just wedged in, all buttons work now.
The sticks seem a bit harder to make little, tiny movements. I've got the Series Elite2 and the 8bitdo going back and forth and the Series Elite2 seems to have better micro movement. I need to play with it some more.

I like how the controller turns on/off when using the dock.
Got the 8bitdo software and can control the led rings. The software doesn't 'install' it just runs from a folder.
I like the Led's for now, but I will probly end up turning them off. The rumble is soft and not 'buzzy' I got it turned up to max rumble and it's probly good enough.

My purply one arrived this afternoon , Seems more sleeker and comfy for my hand size (I have the hands of a lady lol) compared to my Ultimate 1(yup its definitely smaller by comparison)
Liking the R4 / R5 buttons which will be useful on Mplayer games for me .
I turned the lights on the controller off as I would constantly get distracted looking at the disco in my hands but the fire ring settings on the software is cool to play around with .
Wish you could map a key to a button though for screenshots.. but very happy with it overall

be aware you cant remap the extra buttons to new buttons. only map something that is already on the controller.

that killed these 8bitdo controllers for me. its not like the steam deck where you have real L4 and R4 buttons. such a shame

I have Ultimate 2C. Its so-so.

Not exactly easy but not too hard either.

If you pay attention to how you position your fingers its ok.

If not it can get weird.

Triggers are nicely shaped and lb rb are pretty long, they grip similar to Pro 2 because of it.

I suspect it is the same with Ultimate 2.

The only thing I'm not quite liking about my 2C is the shell, I suspect the price is good because they made a cheaper shell.

I will probably sell it and move on to Ultimate 2.

I'm honestly curious how does it compare to my Ultimate 3-Mode.

And how Ultimate 3-Mode compares to regular Ultimate 2,4ghz, only because I have problems with 3-Mode 2,4Ghz dongle under Linux, oddly enough 2C is fine.

3-Modes dongle doesn't send any IDLE signal and only connects when games are not running. It its starting to piss me off although I like that it has distinct dpad and buttons.

This is what gets me about these controllers. On paper they're amazing but then you're hamstrung by arbitrary limits. If I want to map something obscure like F18 to a controller button you shouldn't be stopping me. I wish Steam had some sort of API or other way manufacturers could hook into the controller by providing mapping info and letting us customise properly.

Are there controllers out there that are truly mappable in one software or another?

At this point I'm still holding out for a Steam Controller 2 because I know it will be supported by what I think is the strongest mapping software out there.
