A Compilation of Hilarious Animations in Mass Effect Andromeda

not a confirmation of anything but "they are looking into it";

CC patch has already been mostly confirmed and you might expect some form of animation fixes later. My expectations are still just fixing the worst of the worst and the rest being the way they are.
If they do a character creation patch, add more options and let me turn my generic white Ryder into Ronald Mcdonald

If this thread proves anything pertaining to animation it's that animation > outright graphical fidelity when it comes to suspension of disbelief and immersion. Bioware's latest efforts show increase in fidelity (when it actually works) without commensurate increase in animation.

There are also apparently so many glitches that I am losing count. And the game is not even out yet. That is my biggest worry.

This is a character that you talk for like 10 minutes in Horizon, gives you a quest, shows how much they care about giving us something good.

holy shit, this looks incredible.

Go look the game awards trailer, look at ryder male lead, the eyes are not the same as we see now, they completely ruined them, made them solid blue, the eyes are the first thing you look at a character, one of the most importante things and if you fuck it up it ruins everything.

now solid blue color no one have in real life.

Its amazing how a little detail completely ruins something.

But why? She looks great in that right pic! But oh well it's not like they will (or can?) patch a character design. Not much to do about it, I guess they're just going for the everyday look with this game? The "gorilla-girl" in the OP looks hot though so maybe not.
Actually, looking at some other shots of her I'm inclined to agree that she looks fine and that is simply a very goofy face she's making. Making goofy faces seems to be her thing, after all.

They're going to need to patch the art and animations, if they want to restore goodwill. It'll be expensive, but it has been done. See, for example, all the art changes in No Man's Sky, post-release. Even indie developers sometimes spring for this if there's enough backlash - Cyan released a 2.0 patch to its poorly received realMyst remaster about six months after release, completely remodeling and retexturing assets throughout the game. If EA cares about preserving this intellectual property, they'll put the time and money into a really substantial fix.

In the mean time, I'll be sitting this out for three to six months.

Because Andromeda has objectively better gameplay, worlds, combat, and... so far almost everything barring the CC and sometimes silly faces.
Objectively better visuals, sure. Everything else you just listed is so very subjective though. Which is totally fine, we all have our preferences. In terms of story, and going along with the established conventions Andromeda struggles with everything from dialogue, pacing & structure, characters & even the basic plot. As an RPG all those things are part of the "gameplay", so I can't say it doesn't have its share of serious problems. As far as combat goes, I actually do very much enjoy it, in fact it is one of the highlights of the game. Dragon Age 2 hits most of these beats, sure it struggles with level design & visual fidelity, but it is written well. The characters feel alive, with their own motives and issues that tie into the plot & flesh out the lore. Bioware grabs your attention, hooking you in with the prologue; making you care about the character's plight & establishing the relationship between the siblings. It is easily an hour before you get out of the prologue for Andromeda, and for a game that has such an advertised sibling dynamic, they sure do a shitty job of writing Sara/Scott out of the plot early on. At anyrate that's just my two cents, don't mean to come off as condescending or anything, just a topic im passionate about.

Well, in time the glitches should be taken care of but it's symptomatic of a great problem that has been normalized by most if not all of us who live in places where internet caps don't exist and speed is decent: Releasing blatantly unpolished games at full price with the promise of patches to fix issues later.

This is the reason why I've stopped preordering games after ME:A at full price.

Not even getting into attractiveness being subjective, but Peebee is far from ugly. Like with Ryder, the animations are causing her to look odd.

I genuinely find her distinctly ugly, I was referring to her as Fugly the Asari before they revealed her name infact, and she's only gotten worse looking since the reveals given the visual downgrades and greater exposed of the amateur quality animations and cut scene direction. Not that any of the Asari look particularly good in this instalment, which is baffling given that they're a species designed to be the 'hot blue alien space babes' from their very conception, and that attractiveness is the basis for every characteristic they're meant to have.

Infact I'd say this isn't even a matter of deliberately aiming for unconventional beauty or diversity, all the main cast look various levels of inhuman, with badly implemented 3D models of uninspired, generic character designs. Sure, they look less ugly then the NPC's, but that's because those NPC's are all uncanny valley, hit randomise on the character generator and call it a day levels of awful.

I'd also say this is a step back from the diversity and more varied character designs of earlier games that managed to avoid the stereotypical unrealistically perfect looks so many games characters end up having. Even their body designs seem to have all been homogenised down to the same generic skinny blandness for the humans, and generic armour but with more details and less emphasis on non humanoid features for the aliens.

They're ugly and boring because, like pretty much everything that isn't combat we've seen so far for this game, the characters were clearly not given enough time, skill or basic thought at the conception stage to be any better. They look rushed and as if someone just said 'that'll do' once some basic checklist of minimum criteria was met.

I mean even fucking Tali managed to be more beautiful than Peebee, and we never actually saw her face, as well as her having completely inhuman limbs, but despite that she had enough character, presence and thought put into her design that that didn't matter. Meanwhile the new romanceable Asari keeps being quite rightly compared to Shrek, has no clear personality beyond general unspecific 'quirkiness', moves like a possessed mannequin, and has the kind of outfit you'd expect of a random background NPC in the previous games.

Seriously, the least ugly characters I've seen so far are the Turians and Krogam, and that's entirely down to having too few human characteristics to be immediately noticeable as fuck ugly.

I'm a huge ME1 fan. ME2 is not a bad game but not what I hoped for. ME3 is also not a bad game but again not what I hoped for. I feel ME:A is not again what I hoped for. Still I hope fans of ME2 and 3 have a good time. At this point I am going to wait for the complete edition to come out after all the patches. Hope is a word used a lot in this post lol I am only hoping now that Persona 5 is all I want it to be. Invisible Segway Away!

holy shit, this looks incredible.

It's amazing how good the NPCs look in the game. It kind of tricks you at a few points with expectations you have. "Man, that's such a detailed character, she's probably going to be my sidekick/quest giver for the rest of the game." Nope.

I understand that you're arguing in good faith, but I am genuinely astonished that you can look at PeeBee and find her ugly. To me, this suggests that your expectations of attractiveness are anchored at individuals who are one or more standard deviations above the population mean.

For example, do a Google Images search for "ugly real people". Skip over the phototshops and costumes. Do most of these people look easily comparable to PeeBee? Be honest.

I mean even fucking Tali managed to be more beautiful than Peebee, and we never actually saw her face, as well as her having completely inhuman limbs, but despite that she had enough character, presence and thought put into her design that that didn't matter.

I have no doubt that Tali's character added to her appeal. But have another look. She has a classic hour-glass figure and an ideal BMI. Her face is hidden, allowing people to imagine whatever they like. Thus, the affection for her in the fanbase is not all that surprising.

When's the last time people from outlets like IGN and Gamespot spoke negatively about AAA game before release?

It's kinda crazy

Maybe it will get a pass because it is Mass Effect.

I really don't know why EA put out the trial. I was so excited for this game and the trial actually convinced me not to buy it. I'm sure it will get great sales, but it's sad to see the streak of great video games come to a startling end like this. Mass Effect fans deserve better.

Peebee or Ryder? Peebee just have a strong chin, not my personal choice for a female character in a romantic story line but it's all about personal taste so it's okay. The photoshopped Peebee would be my own choice though without a doubt.
Ryder looks kind of goofy because of the weird animation and odd eyes, maybe it's a reason for it but I don't know if it matters since you can create your own characters, the design of the NPCs is more important to get right imo since I assume that it's not easily patched.

Texture packs will easily fix the colour block problem with eyes, but they also changed the reflection and shading quality. That's the part I'm worried will be impossible for modders to fix, and will require Bioware/EA to demonstrate they give as much of a crap about supporting and improving their games as CDPR do. I just don't think they do.

jesus fucking christ I've never seen an eye zoomed in that's disturbing we look like fucking lampray mouths.

She seems to be a mass effect superfan too. Glad they're being honest, at least.

Keep in mind she's not reviewing it and only played 4 hours. She's played exactly the same things all of us have, before the game really gets going. So this really isn't indicative of anything, and only further confirms that the trial was a bad idea.

Only 4 hours in they said in the comments.

Beastcast mentioned that they are hearing it's a game that has good stuff in it, but the beginning is a train wreck.

I don't have hours to waste playing bad content in the hope that might get better when I could just play a different game that is immediately fun.

I'm hoping that the beginning doesn't provide an anchor that ends up skewing people's impressions. The mere fact of improvement from bad to uneven could feel much more positive due to the contrast.

There's a difference between the story being a slow start and the game not being fun. A slow start and poor animations aren't going to make the game less fun.

Peebee. Look at some of the other shots of her. Making goofy faces seems to be her character quirk. Normally, she looks fine save for the eyes but as we've already established that is a problem across the board. As for the photoshopped Peebee she looks way too stylized for my liking not to mention I can't see that character doing the faces regular Peebee does but to each their own.

I definitely think/hope I will have some fun, but this game is obviously so under cooked that it's down right embarrassing. It is not even out yet and look how many things people keep finding wrong with it that goes far and beyond the usual BioWare jank that most people brush off because the game is so good.

PDP's video has already been viewed over two million times lol

I'd sure like to be a fly on the wall at Bioware Edmonton.

I'm sure the folks there worked very hard on this, but it's crazy that even one person at that studio saw these animations and said "DONE"
