Five years between Halo 5 and Infinite is just too much. I'm willing to forgive it this time because of the new engine, it being a spiritual reboot and all that, but this cannot happen again. Three years between games, with at least one big story expansion in between (think ODST) is what 343 should aim for from now on.

I need more Halo ok?

I agree. It is a looooong time. To non-fans of halo, all they see is halo wars, tmcc, a Halo arcade game, a trailer for halo infinite 2 years in a row, and I feel like it is all getting lumped together when they complain about there being too many halo games. They don't really differentiate between the genres and the collection of older games. They don't realize that it will be 5 years since the last true entry in the franchise. Yet here we are starving for a new mainline halo game lol.

I really am going to bed I promise lol. Did you guys see how many job openings 343 has? I wonder is that a good or bad thing or pretty normal for the industry?

It won’t take that long again cause they have a built a brand new engine, and their team size since then has exponentially increased.

People come and go in any game development studio, but they are hiring more because they want more Halo’s made at a faster rate.

So I've been slowly playing through Halo 2's campaign on legendary while at the same time trying to make sure i get the par scores. It's an absolute total pain. I've almost finished though. I have all done except for High Charity and the Great Journey. So I finish High Charity this morning and I missed the par score (9000) by less than 100 points lol. So I turned on some some more skulls and hopefully I can redo the level without too much trouble. It's pretty short thankfully. Then all i have left is The Great Journey. What I've found is that any levels with vehicles are super easy to get the par score because you get so many points for destroying everything when you're in a vehicle - and it's harder to get sniped by the stupid jackals.

Cue more Halo complaining by people who don't like Halo :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Sorry for multiple posts in a row but I love hiddenxperia's excitement for Infinite and he touches on a few more things from the trailer.

Edit: TMCC latest adjustments/fixes

I bet those beam towers are "Fast Travel" locations and those floating islands are the Halo being repaired. I think we are looking at an open world Halo here. If anyone remembers the Halo 5 concept art, I feel like that's what they were trying to do but couldn't, and that's how we got a shitty Halo 5.

So I did restart high charity last night. Got through it with no trouble this time and got the par score. I just added the skull where you restart if you die and kept save reloading any time I bit the dust lol. I'm running through the great journey right now and skipped a bunch to get to Tartarus. I have the par score but my score bonus is ticking away. Scared if I don't kill him off quickly enough I won't get the par score. Does anyone know if you get some points for defeating Tartarus?

Yep I agree. Not sure about the beam towers but interested to find out.

Argh! I be enacting the Cole Protocol and scuttling the ship in case those Covenant pirates be boarding. We can't let them know the location of our pirate lair!

Hey so from one or the previous community updates Ske7ch talked about about how surprised he was by the scale of the upcoming June TMCC update. We are halfway through June so that update has to come out next week or the week after. I wonder what it could be. I've been wanting better online post game stats for Halo CE. Right now you barely get any info. Just the score and your personal kill info. Regardless, can't wait for the update.

One of the things they said a while back is that they're taking much longer on this one to create the Slipspace Engine in the hope that they will be able to produce more, higher quality Halo games out at a quicker rate going forward.

I had some more fun in TMCC last night. Or more like getting my butt kicked in multiple games only to salvage the night with this Killtacular/Overkill.

I hope that proves true. I can beat around the bush all I want, but halo is why I buy Xbox consoles. If Halo didn't exist I would be exclusively a Nintendo fan lol. I just don't get excited about Sony games (maybe next gen?). So I wish I could fast forward to Fall 2020 right now! That isn't to say that I haven't enjoyed a lot of Xbox games though. Ori was straight fire and I had a lot of fun in Sunset Overdrive. Back in the 360 days I also dabbled in some Gears matchmaking.

Yeah completely agree. As Halo has deteriorated so has my enthusiasm for Xbox. I've dabbled in a fair bit of Switch but I'm mainly playing on PC now which is where all my friends have migrated to. I gamed exclusively on 360 last gen because Halo was still strong and there was an active community around it. Hoping it can be restored to that. And for God's sake Microsoft, please pack a microphone into every box this time.

man look at all this halo hype. i'm so glad i joined this board right now haha. i've been back on halo 5 after all the e3 excitement, and i swear i like it better than i did when it first came out. it's also got a sick throwback playlist on right now that i can't get enough of. it's got that 'one more match' feel again.

Is anyone else blown away by the Anniversary Playlist in Halo 5? Like holy SHIT do the abilities in Halo 5 work well with the old map design. Speaking of map design, the Forge in Halo 5 continues to amaze me with the level of detail being pumped out. From map remakes to new ones all together, there is so much detail and room for creativity. I haven't really touched it myself since I haven't studied in the Library of the Cartographers, but damn does it tickle my interest.

Can't wait to see what Halo Infinite is like in terms of game modes, but Forge certainly has my interest. It'd be nice to see Theater expanded, maybe given the ability to make multiple cuts within a single clip? Most of all though, please don't be always online. C'mon 343, you've really been turning things around over the past couple years. Let's get some offline capabilities in this bitch! Screw the DRM!

Yeah i'm kind of bummed overall. Just nothing that i expected at e3 happened. That we got another Halo trailer and no game footage is really depressing. I thought or hoped we would have all sorts of stuff to talk about after E3. Turns out, there isn't anything to talk about lol. And what was with all the hints about big surprises? I feel like, at least in regards to Halo, there was literally nothing new, nothing surprising whatsoever. The lego tweets had nothing to do with Halo, but were hints at the Forza Horizon 4 expansion. That megaconstrux tweet was not a tease or hint, but just a general tweet looking foward to Halo news.

About the only thing to discuss is where and when Halo Infinite takes place. They lost? Does that mean cortana destroyed everyone from Halo 5? Was the broken ring installation 07? That was where a lot of people speculated Infinite would take place. Most likely that trailer took place midway or even over halfway through the game's campaign. Oh well. Really sad and now we have to wait over a year for release on top of everything else. At this point it wouldn't surprise if at next year's E3 we get yet another trailer instead of game footage. They'll just release the game one day and you'll have to see the footage for yourself. Microsoft does not know how to deliver on hype, expectations, and momentum.
There there good buddy. We'll get some gameplay soon. Maybe. Probably not... from what I understand though it seems they went ahead and left a lot of little easter eggs via super small numbers and whatnot. So perhaps we'll get some kind of tease for gameplay or even better, a beta date. Please let us have a nice Christmas!!

It is pretty lame though. It was really great to finally see Chief again, but man I couldn't help but be bummed out that they didn't bother showing us Chief do what he does best. Not even a hint of what enemies we'll be facing. Probably Covenant enslaved by Cortana and more Prometheans.... man I hate those things. Just them being somehow a Forerunner construct? It just doesn't fit with anything Forerunner that we've seen. Anyway, I'd be pretty blown away if they actually bring back the flood or even maybe the precursors; perhaps both? See us get some team action up on this new blue bitch claiming to be my hologram waifu? Ahhhh who am I kidding. No way could things get THAT cool.

Yeah I really hope we get a beta in December, but I would anticipate it being February :(

The next chance for updates/announcements aside from direct announcements from 343 on halowaypoint:

I understand why people wouldn't think they'd reveal gameplay outside of E3, but I wouldn't put it past 343. They've got an entire con of their own don't they? What better way to hype up interest than to show off gameplay via some "ultra-exclusive" Halo hosted hotspot? Only press get to see it at first, there's a gameinformer cover story (it doesn't have to compete at E3 with Gods such as FFVII Remake), and then fans are given a beta tease via a Halo Infinite RvB reel. Boom. Cash money millionaire bITCH.

not that I'm expecting anything *shrug*

If ya don't mind the occasional debauchery and loud mouth disbelief, feel free to hit me up for some Halo. I too hadn't played Halo 5 in well... years, and it's Multiplayer is on an ENTIRELY different level now in terms of map variety (albeit Forge made but damn does it look good), game modes, and there's even a custom browser which just... *Patchajustright.jpg*. When you get those aim settings right, throw on your groove, and CRANK that music to 11, you're gonna feel like a god damn space rock star. Sprinkle some space crack on your controller before each match if ya want that "authentic" experience though ;p

Yeah I'm down. Is your gamertag the same as gaf? I can't remember if i added you before. It has been a long time so I'm likely to be really terrible.

Tried playing Reach the other day, but 720p at 30fps with that awful ghosting effect feels terrible.

Do we have an ETA for Reach on the MCC?

I still haven't gotten the par score on The Great Journey. Gonna try and cheese Tartarus by cloning Sergeant Johnson. I've gone through the level a couple different times each time forgetting to do a simple step. Should be be able to make it happen next couple of play throughs though.

None that I'm aware of. PC flighting is supposed to happen this month. So less than 2 weeks away. I don't know when Xbox flighting will happen. I'm still waiting for some big TMCC update that Ske7ch talked about.

Edit: Got the par score done on The Great Journey playing Legendary.. I spent forever trying to clone Johnson. I even got the Spectre inside the Tartarus boss fight. Even though I had Johnson sitting in the passenger seat no clones spawned. I quit and restarted several times but my points kept diminishing every time I would do it. So at around 10000 points I just finished the level the hard way and ran around shooting Tartarus when his shields were down. Boo! I wonder if 343 fixed the glitch. I was doing everything to a tee that I saw in several YouTube videos too. Aw well.

Speed run on The Great Journey using the Johnson cloning trick:

I love Halo, but this theme park stuff makes me cringe.
Oh totally. I can't say that I'm that interested in Outpost Discovery. Seems like it is geared more toward the younger crowd and that is fine. If it was coming through my town I'd give it a look but not interested in making travel plans and spending the money on a trip just to go. Rofl your name change is solid!

I wish Halo wasn’t so mainstream. The toys and this just rubs me the wrong way lol

And thanks

Reach PC flighting to start next week to a smaller number of registered Xbox insiders. Then they will expand it out to more people.

Not anything new or exciting regarding TMCC. I was hoping to get some big news lol.

EDIT: In other news, the local library where I live acquired Halo Retribution and The Cole Protocol. So it looks like reading is back on the menu!

GG's last night. I was terrible lol, but it was fun to jump back into halo 5 and get in some games.
Hell yeah man! We'll have to hang again soon. I'm always down to jump on the MCC too, but man it was fun to play those Anniversary maps.

The customs browser also has a lot of fun gametypes going on. Praise be to custom browsers!

Do we have an ETA for Reach on the MCC?
Not yet we don't, buy from what I understand the Insider testers will be starting soon, or very well may have already. My guess is it'll be out around September/October.

Based on nothing but muh gut admittedly.

Did anyone get an email in their inbox from Microsoft asking them to fill out a "Halo Ongoing Sentiment Survey"?

I tried to fill it out but was told they've now received the maximum amount of required responses.

I stayed up all night - I kid you not - trying to get the par score on halo 4's forerunner level lol. I finally switched from legendary to heroic which made big difference. And after spending hours and hours on forerunner and finally getting the par score, and also finishing the game legendary, what did I do? That's right! I did it again on easy to get the par time lol. Ugh, I'm not going to play that level ever again.

I have not. I would love to know what kind of questions they asked.

Now this I can get behind. Some CE tourney action. I'd actually be interested in participating if it was using TMCC. As is, I'd have no way to prepare for it without an original xbox and copy of Halo CE lol. Well, that and I have no idea where I'd find a group of players to practice with. Should be good though. I really hope they do 4v4's. I just don't get excited about the 2v2 stuff at all.

In other news, I got in some HCE social slayer today and lost my cool. Sent a player a trash talk message. To be fair the player was really good, but i just get so annoyed by players who run around constantly with the sniper rifle and camp/spawn kill repeatedly. For one, the sniper rifle in CE is a power weapon, but treated like a non-power weapon. It's littered around in every map but race race, and it's quite possible for players to use it for an entire game as a result. 2) I just get tired of halo highlights where 99% of them are sniper kill highlights. Like ooh look at me use this OP weapon and rack up a bunch of kills. At least with the rocket launcher you only have 4 rockets or less. It's just a cliche thing to me in Halo. I especially get offended when someone is playing against me and doing it. It's like they shouldn't be allowed to pull that shit on my watch. Anywho, I got matched up against said person multiple games in a row and lost every game. Then got into a 4v4 on hang'em high where the guy was on the other team yet again! Of course he spawned at blue base and grenaded the sniper rifle to himself - yawn - and preceded to start sniping people. I made it my mission to thwart him at every opportunity. At the end of the match my team was down several kills and trapped at red base, and they only needed 1-2 more kills to win. And guess who had the sniper rifle yet again. Anyway, I kept cool and was picking off people long-distance with the pistol from behind red base and also laying down suppressing fire on said player to keep his lame sniping shenanigans at bay. Thankfully, my teammates were smart and not rushing out into the open to get team shot instantly. After cherry picking 3-4 players from afar, i finally got the final kill to win 50-49. Of course said player had like 30 kills, so i sent him a message saying he got a big fat L and was a camping pos. I was so annoyed lol.

Finally an update on TMCC!

They talk about Reach and how they will do a one-time transfer of game type and maps that people have made and uploaded to file share. That way you don't lose your creations when playing on TMCC. This includes content created in halo 3, 4, and Reach. Screenshots, films and game clips not going to be transferred.

They go into detail about the new upcoming TMCC progression system, which involves seasons and ranks. These seasons apparently will happen for not just Reach but for all the TMCC games and when you play you earn points to unlock Reach and from the sounds of it, maybe new content for the other games too? They specifically mention using point for Halo CE content, whatever that might be.

Theater mode and forge will be available to console users day one, but PC players will have to wait a little longer.

Bringing a Reach style progression system to the whole MCC is a pretty massive update and gives the whole collection a new coat of paint.

Agreed. I wonder if people trying to unlock Reach content will actually switch to other Halo games when the seasons switch. That would be a method of boosting playlists at least for a short period of time. I have much to do before reach releases on the TMCC. I have to go through and beat halo 4 on legendary and most of the par scores. Last night I also realized that I have the par scores left for halo 3 and odst too.

Here is the latest community update from 343:

  • Mostly a recap of all the current stuff happening (Halo Discovery Outpost, Upcoming Tourneys) and what was talked about in the TMCC update last week. Although Unyshek does try to answer a bunch of questions that the TMCC update brought up about PC flighting, Reach Seasons and progression, etc.

I really hate their site layout, and they need to do something about it. I miss the good old days of Bungie.net, and their updates.

I'm not really a fan, but I've gotten used to it. I hate how pertinent news and updates aren't even on the front page half of the time. It feels like you have to dig to find stuff. For example, to even see that there was a community update today (last night), you have to click on the news tab and select community or all news. The front page is cluttered with what feels like big adverts for Halo Infinite and Halo Wars 2. It would be nice if they revamped halowaypoint at some point.

EDIT: In other news, I finished Halo Retribution. I enjoyed the book but it was not what I was expecting. The book continues the story of Inspector Lopis and Blue Team after the events of Halo Last Night. While I wait and hope my local library purchases more halo books that I've recommended, I'm going to read The Cole Protocol. I can't believe how many books I've read in the past 6 months lol. I just keep going :messenger_sunglasses:

I stumbled onto this new video by NX Gamer on my YouTube subscriptions feed and I was really impressed:

It's well worth a watch Halo GAF. It definitely raised my excitement for Infinite even higher and made me want to fire up TMCC.

It's interesting that he feels that the E3 trailer was actually comprised of footage from the Xbox One X. He makes a good case.

Yeah I like that his analysis is heavily grounded in reality. He doesn't exaggerate anything, but gives reasonable expectations. I think as a launch title, the next gen xbox is going to start off with a bang. That doesn't mean Sony won't also start off hot, but I don't see the scenario that many others see where next gen is a disaster for the xbox. I'm not sure why anyone would think that - but that is a topic for a different thread lol. I wish it was Summer of 2020 already. I will be in full hype mode, barely able to contain my excitement.
