A new notification type called "SubscriptionPriceIncrease" has been added to the xCloud website

Could be the rumoured cloud and ad supported tiers, or could be a price increase( especially since last increase was announced in July, so there might be another price increase announced in July scheduled for before the next cod releases)

Think I figured this out and why we never seen higher bitrates. If they provided higher bit rates for free they would face a big PR backlash for charging for it now. Makes sense the low / free tier is 720p-1080p while the 1440p/4k tier is going to be 15.99 extra a month so for 30.00 a month you will get gamepass and high bit rate service.

People are paying for GeForce now without the games…

Microsoft is like "our consoles have failed in sales, our published games are mediocre and our gamepass service has been stagnant in users for years... what do we do?" "Raise the prices of everything of course, surely that way we will recover the market".

Go to steam top 100 most played games right now. Check which company games are being played the most.

Sure if you want to live in a bubble, they are failing. Lol.

$30 a month is very high, $80 isn't a impulse price. The growth strategy of the legacy industry is now to charge customers.

This is a problem because people already have an insane amount of games to play. They may not need new ones or need a subscription to play someone else's library as an adult.

The price increase strategy is becoming a problem for me as time is short so why even participate. So, toy marketing is probably the best approach to sell to impressionable children. Parents may see nostalgia in it.

Am I missing something here.
In the Top100 most played games on steam you have #28COD and #62Overwatch2, both games technically Microsoft but most people doesn't situate MS for their success.
And #72ForzaHorizon5. that is 3 games for the biggest publisher in gaming.

Edit - Oh yeah and ElderScrolls#61 and ElderScrollsOnline#100. I guess 5 games and AoE makes sense.

Check properly. There is more. Skyrim, AOE, Fallout, ESO.

A lot more keep coming and going.

No other single publisher has that many.

That is actually what companies do though. Once market reaches saturation point for products they raise the price. They have given up on increasing the userbase and instead want to earn more per user in order to increase revenue and profits. It doesn't matter if the user base decreases as long as the total revenue and profits increase. You can see iphone or netflix as examples.

Sorry to burst your bubble but you need to scroll down to number 33 to find the first title owned by Microsoft and the current total player count for their games in the top 100 combined amounts to about 80k.

Yep. People are delulu if they think Microsoft dominates any chart, especially with a game that they made (not bought), on Steam.

Now vaibhavpisal vaibhavpisal would go all quiet, leave laughing emojis, and then popup in another thread trying to defend the $3 trillion corporation :messenger_tears_of_joy:
I already discussed in this thread. They have 7 titles in top 100. Despite of that you still mentioned only top 10.

Thats how fast steam charts move. They had a few games much higher some time ago. Now new titles have released and have taken the spot.

Oh my apologies. There was me thinking that because you posted what you said today you referring to the current steam chart:

Silly me.

7 Titles that when combined wouldn't even break into the top 20 most played.

So not even close to the most played publisher.

I should've been clearer, I meant most no of spots in top 100.

Like, when I scroll down their top 100, I see plenty of MS titles.

And I was responding to someone who was claiming to be a failure. Which they clearly are not.

I think its safe to say the majority of titles MS have published post acquisition(s) have underwhelmed in one way or another.

Probably only FH is the only roaring success in recent memory. Maybe Sea of Thieves as well it could be argued.

They need to step up and stop releasing 7's and 8's and give us some 9's and 10's.

Good enough just isn't good enough I'm afraid.

So they have lots of average games, none of which even come close to the top 10 or top 20 games on Steam.

Some of you would really come up with the weirdest metrics, just to fit the narrative and even fail at those.

Console sales don't matter. Game sales don't matter. But how many games are in the top 100 (not top 10 or 20) on Steam determines if a company is successful or not lol.

It is for gamepass "aint buying games no more" gamers.....

... and thats the problem

Nah its MS's problem. That why the service isn't growing, the hardware isnt selling and their games languish towards the lower end of steam ccu charts.

The games just aren't good enough. Thats the reason my GP has lapsed and the xbox hasn't been turned on in over a year.

Dooms looking to be about the best thing this year and thats over and done in about ten hours.

Do you see masterpieces on netflix and primevid ? Or just the avg mid thing ? ... its exactly the same thing.... When your focus is om quantity to fill a service.. 5 - 7s is better than 1-10. .

I dont think they are worried with 10s.

No other single publisher has that many.

Most of those older titles had the bulk of their sales figures before Microsoft bought the parent companies. They're making money on the monthly sub for ESO, and remasters are profitable for sure. But let's not try to put all the success of Skyrim and Fallout in the Microsoft bucket. There's a reason they paid $7.5 Billion for Bethesda.

Game subscription is a completely different beast imo.

I recently let my 3-4 year sub lapse for example, as I simply dont want to/don't have time to play most of the bang average shit they put out.

I completely agree and thats why for me is a failed strategy that lead xbox to third party and exit of the hardware race. Its all they have now and so are holding on it waiting for times to catch up with their genius plan

$80 retail games….

or $20.00 Gamepass. I did the math for myself one time and if I add up all the subscription services I use for gaming, EA, Gamepass, and UBISOFT it was still less a year than buying 5 games or close to it. For people who like variety there is value in these services. If you a single game person maybe not so much.

I feel most companies fall into that category.

Real 9s and 10s are hard to come by.

Majority of games are good enough I would say. Enjoyable but not groundbreaking.

Wut?

they just released Oblivion that sold well on steam, then quickly went out of those lists. That true for most games that are in top 10. They wont stay there forever.

Yes, they are MS games now, though.

Get over it. They are doing well.

I would say I played some high quality, unique games on their sub service:

Psychonauts 2
Hi Fi Rush
Doom TDA

All worthy of high praise.

They really should add a new CoD tier. If someone wants to play it (and maybe get some worthless bonuses as an incentive), they can pay more. If not, the current price stays the same.

Exactly the point. We knew Game Pass prices would increase when we saw the $80 price tag on Outer Worlds 2. Seeing a new notification referencing it is not a surprise.

A new string of code in the xCloud website has been spotted which suggests that Xbox Game Pass could be seeing another price increase soon.

The string of code was spotted by X (formerly Twitter) user @RedPhx, who noticed that a new notification string was added called "SubscriptionPriceIncrease".

The new string leaves nothing to the imagination, as it essentially means that Xbox could be gearing up for another price increase in the very near future. Game pass last saw its price increase by as much as 25% in July 2024, and with game prices now on the rise, it isn't difficult to see that Game Pass will also increase too.
