A Tale of 'Merica and Milk - I just walked out and abandoned a job interview. FML.

I swear, every time you say "'merica" I put more of my large paycheck into my retirement account.

You're like, the perfect example of what not to do and an inspiration to us all.

It's the best part. This story and seeing millennials enter the workforce and seeing their work ethic... man, we'll be employed forever.

You know when people answer to a basic "idiot" post then you know its a troll character. There. I feel better now its just a joke.

Especially after you made such an amazingly insightful and helpful post pages ago that he just completely ignored.

And it makes me absolutely sick someone like you is in charge of hiring ANYWHERE.

Your post before about "maybe if you can pass our test I MIGHT talk to you, peasant" is disgusting.

I will let you know right now, Marrec is one of the most pleasant, reasonable, and kind hearted people I know. Also, he is a genius. Like, incredible intellect on that dude.

And he worked his fucking tail off to get where he is today. I'd rather him be in charge of hiring people than someone who thinks that a 30 minute wait that was scheduled into the interview process for taking tests and filling out paper work is 'an insult'

Idiot? I am far from that, I promise you.
As a wise man once said,

Oh. My. God.

Hey, one of us has a lot of hiring experience and just went through a three-interview grueling process to land a job they've always wanted, that makes quite a bit less than the one you walked out on.

I hope you find something you find professional and rewarding, but I do think you need to modify your expectations of reality.

Uhhh...

Yes, you were unprofessional to walk out on the scheduled interview.

What planet are you on?

He walked out after waiting 45 minutes for scheduled start of said interview.

If a colleague of yours scheduled a meeting and didn't turn up would you just sit around in a meeting room with your thumb up your ass for an hour?

Whether or not this was a wise decision depends on the OPs financial situation but calling him unprofessional is absurd.

Edit: it appears some other shit has gone down since page 1 so I'll need to catch up but it doesn't change the fact that politely leaving 45 minutes after a scheduled meeting start time is perfectly reasonable.

Thacker straight up DUNKING on all of OT right now, the lone man of truth against a sea of cro magnon lickspittles.

I fought with myself from the thirty minute mark to the 45 minute mark. I would have bombed the interview terrible with how upset the entire thing was making me.

I've sat here and tried to rationalize that maybe I have a problem...maybe something is wrong with me that makes me think so different than the general population of GAF... but I feel my problem comes more in how I present myself on here and how I've presented the situation. It was a terrible spot to be in, I promise you.

That's all well and good, but why didn't you ask before you left?

Thats pretty impatient even without the high stakes your situation has. Sorry man, I hope you can reconcile with that guy or something. But you can't wait an hour? Did you bring your phone? I mean come on. Seriously?
Half hour

He was too upset and distracted to do the interview after a half hour

Please reference the employers email to me where he said he wasn't behind, and I simply wasn't informed of the "process".

Please reference the part where you didn't have the capacity to ask the receptionist a simple question.

Oh no, you were too busy hating "corporate America" and judging a company based on two phone calls and some staff leaving.

Now that your misdemeanour is expunged it looks like you're just looking for other excuses why you aren't employed.

1300 posts. How much deeper can Thacker dig? He wanted some quick validation. He got called out with most everyone disagreeing with him. Now he's on the defensive and can't stop. Keep diggin man, keep diggin. I want to see how far this goes. 'Merica

I don't know but I can't look away. It's like a train-wreck...

He was aware I was sitting there. I could plain as day hear his conversation on the phone, just as I am sure he could hear my conversation with the receptionist. Also when I first got there she notified him I was there and brought me the paperwork and questionnaire he wanted me to answer and then personally took it to him and dropped it off.

I actually sent an email to him the moment I got home and nuked any opportunity I had with him from orbit... but I don't really feel bad about it. I do appreciate all of GAF's input and I enjoy getting differing perspectives on the situation. I will use it on my next interview.

Why would you do this? Awful decision.

That's all well and good, but why didn't you ask before you left?

Because having to ask why the fuck he was wasting my time after I had already made up my mind this wasn't a place I wanted to work was pretty useless.

On top of that, I was listening to the bosses conversation as he was literally 10 feet away in the next room. Asking this to the receptionist and he would have heard exactly what I said.

I'd ask where my colleague was. I wouldn't leave the building.

xxxxxx,

With all due respect I arrived at 2:45pm and walked out at 3:47pm. I filled out your application, took your test and was completed by 3:00. Your previous candidate that you were interviewing walked out around 3:05 and I waited an extra 40+ minutes for my interview that you scheduled at 3.. While I understand things come up, and business must keep going, I am also very professional in how I handle myself and any business relationships. To be made to wait, with not so much as you coming out to shake my hand, introducing yourself and letting me know you were running behind I feel was extremely unprofessional. While I respect your accomplishments and your business, I have no desire to pursue any sort of working relationship with your company.

Thanks,
xxxxxxx

Have you ever even considered that, as a manager, shit happens when you're important and you're busy, and that sometimes that shit is more important than you, an IT candidate? That manager could have had a very important phone call occur... That could have been HIS boss trying to get him to fix something immediately. It could have been a family emergency. It could have been lots of reasons. You didn't even give him the chance to explain to you at the interview. You just left. It's not like you even had something else to do. You're unemployed.

Your handling of the situation is unreal.

Fron what I read in this thread, I feel sorry for whoever it is that ends up hiring you for whatever role they need filled.

From what I know of you based on what you wrote in other threads, I feel even more sorry for your future employer.

It would appear that you are having a hard time in life but really, this thread just reinforces my belief that most people get what they truly deserve in life.

You need to stop pretending your time is worth so much that you couldn't wait 45 minutes for a job interview. It would be different if you already had a great job and we're looking for a new one, but that's not the case. You need to have a better perspective on the reality of your situation.

No, he showed up 15 minutes before he was supposed to and finished a test that was scheduled to last until 3:30-45.

Please read his email back to me.

Not trying to justify, just saying. He specifically stated he was not busy, and that this was simply "process" and it's my fault for not understanding their process that was not communicated to me.

can someone give me a summary ?

OP thought he was scheduled to interview at 3 PM. The interviewer/owner of the company got busy, ignored him for 45 mins. OP couldn't handle waiting to get a $70k+/yr job even though he's deep in debt and lives with his broke-ass parents.

OP says to himself "Well, I'm out, I wait for NO man, this is SO unprofessional!", drives home, and immediately posts on GAF to gloat about he's not a slave to the man, BRO.

If the meeting room had a receptionist in front of it keeping me informed that the meeting was definitely still on and also the meeting is potentially worth seventy thousand dollars then yeah I'd consider it

Sorry I had to make some analogous adjustments there.

Fuuuuckkkk hahaha lmao!!!

Welp, when you burn a bridge you fucking burn that bitch to the ground.

Because telling someone you aren't interested in working with them, and you felt how their interview process was handled was very unprofessional is "nasty"

Corporations need more protection than the people.

'merica

You answered a Craigslist ad from the owner of a very small company.

You expected the hiring process of a large corporation. It makes your 'merica comments so ironic. Same with your assumption that a company owner who has to handle hiring directly is all about power plays and time wasting. It sounds like a rag tag shop for sure, but man.. your portrayal of it all seams so ridiculous.

That is sick, and it angers me a great deal you feel such a condescending and judgemental way about someone you've never met, but thanks for your input.

No. I expected the owner to come out and speak to me and talk to me directly, not have his receptionist handle all communication between us.

It's the owner that was playing like he was a big business, not me.

Because the superior alternative to the boss overhearing you politely ask about a perceived delay is walking out of the building and then writing him a petulant e-mail.

He didn't politely leave, he just left.
And the other guy was there. Working. It's not like they said "yeah I don't know where the guy is, just sit there and wait while we play Farmville".

I have a feeling he isn't the only one thinking that. Just saying. You do not sound like a joy to work with.

Maybe you are, maybe the internet just isn't working for you. Let's hope it's that.

Seems like you made just such a judgement about this boss that you didn't even talk face to face with.

If my extremely busy boss said "your job depends on attending this meeting with me", then yes, yes I would sit my ass down for as long as it took.
