Background:
The murder of Odin Lloyd occurred on June 17, 2013. His death made international headlines when Aaron Hernandez, at the time a tight end for the New England Patriots of the National Football League, was investigated as a suspect in the case. Lloyd was a linebacker for a semi-professional football team, the Boston Bandits, since 2007.

On June 28, 2013, two other men, Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace, were also arrested in connection with Lloyd's death. Prosecutors say both men were with Hernandez when they drove to the place of murder. On August 22, 2013, Hernandez was indicted by a grand jury for the murder of Odin Lloyd. Nearly eight months later, Ortiz and Wallace were also indicted for the murder in the same crime.

Day 2 of testimonies has started. The victims girlfriend is supposed to testify today. Her sister is engaged to Aaron.

Hernandez laid so many bread crumbs throughout the entire incident, that disabling the security system wouldn't have done shit to help his case.

Oh, I'm just reiterating what his defense is doing to open the case. Not verbatim, but close to it.

I can't wait for when they timeline him in a store buying gum then it magically appears were they found the body because he probably spit it at the dude after executing him. That's right up his alley of genius...

Day 3 of the trial has been delayed yet again. Yesterday it was due to weather. Today a juror was in question and has been dismissed from the trial. She admitted to going to more patriots games than she disclosed and that she wouldn't be able to convict him without a weapon.

Court is back in session now.

Wait jurors who have seen X pats games are allowed to serve but those who have seen X+1 games cannot?

I think it was more because she lied. If she had disclosed that from the beginning she probably wouldn't have been picked. News sources are saying she wanted to be on the jury.

Day 4 - Court has started. They will continue the testimony of Odin's girlfriend. Also Hernandez's fiancee is asking for immunity in order to testify against him. She may have been the one that got rid of the gun that killed Odin. She also has a perjury case against her for lying to the grand jury. She is appearing in court for the first time today.

So she wants to make sure she doesn't get in trouble for being complicit in a murder? Man, what a time to be alive. Granted, the prosecution would need her testimony since they don't have a gun.

My mistake. It seems that the prosecutors are the one's asking for immunity in order to get her to testify.

She seems to be in pretty deep trouble. If definitely seems like he may have asked her to lose the weapon. They're close to This is all happening about 25 miles from me. Surprisingly though, not one single person at my work has said a word about the trial. I have streamed most of what has been offered. I find this stuff very intensely fascinating.

Dumb question... I see Hernandez sitting there quietly in a suit. As a matter of course in something like this - would he be in handcuffs, ankle cuffs or chained to his chair - or anything like that? I am just curious. I can't tell from the vantage point from the television camera.

He isn't cuffed while they are in session. He's able to write notes and converse with his attorneys. I believe he is only cuffed when they are escorting him to the back during a recess or at the end of day.

The Aaron Hernandez trial continued Wednesday in Fall River with the mother of shooting victim Odin Lloyd taking the stand and identifying her son from an autopsy photo of his face.

Ursula Ward, who left the courtroom in tears on two other days after seeing photos of her son’s body, started to get emotional again, but Superior Court Judge Susan Garsh told Ward she needed to be in control of her emotions and avoid crying when shown photos of her son. Ward managed to make it through her testimony without tearing up.

What the fuck?

Aaron Hernandez Comforted Odin Lloyd's Girlfriend After Shooting

Jenkins testified that the morning after Lloyd was shot to death, she drove to Hernandez's home to be comforted by her sister. That's when she says Hernandez himself offered his condolences (from the Boston Globe):

Once she reached the North Attleborough home, Jenkins testified, she hugged her sister and sat on a living room couch for at least an hour until she saw Hernandez in the kitchen, who rubbed her shoulders in what seemed like an attempt to console her.

"He asked me if I was okay," she said. "He told me that he had been through this death thing before and it would get better with time." He later left the house.

Yea I thought that was a little insensitive. I understand needing to be able to hear her testimony, but you just showed her a picture of her dead son. Granted it was only the head, but it was on medical examiners table. She was going to get a little choked up. Glad they kept her testimony pretty short.

Looks like the Jury will be taken to the scene of the crime on Friday.

Day 4 (Trial day 3) Police Captain DiRenzo testimony continues. There was a late start due to a note from a juror. The juror and lawyers had a side bar with the judge. Everything seems to be ok with that Juror as they were allowed to go back to the stand. They are going over the crime scene.

On Friday the Jury went on a tour of the crime scene and four cellphone towers. Prosecutors say they used cellular location data from these towers to trace Hernandez's route the night of the crime. The also visited both Odin Llyod and Aaron Hernandez's homes. The jurors were not allowed to talk or take notes while on the bus.

Trail Day- 7

The trial was delayed on Monday and Tuesday due to the snowstorm. There will be 2 hours of testimony today and then they will resume again on Friday.

Aaron's fiancee has been granted immunity. Whether she testify's against him or not is still up in the air. http://www.heraldnews.com/article/20150210/NEWS/150219597

Why not have simply granted immunity on the basis of testimony? If she testifies, grant immunity. If not, string her up with Hernandez for contempt.

Was that not an option? I don't know legalese.

There is issue where she needs immunity for previous perjury too that they have to work out.

Tough to read the immunity deal. Usually that means the prosecutors know what info the witness has, but as said above it can be used as a tool to get the witness held in contempt if she doesn't cooperate. Very fascinating.

Trial Day 8

Court is back in session today. After four weather delays the trial will resume and be a full day of testimony. (Fridays are usually half days) Also another juror has been dismissed due to personal reasons.

The defense is currently auguring about letting in a video as evidence, showing Hernandez being uncooperative with police when they first arrived at his home. The video contradicts the defense’s statement in openings that Aaron cooperated with authorities when they came to his home.

Thanks for the updates, keep them coming, some of us are reading.

Your welcome. Was starting to wonder if anyone even saw this thread.

Trial Day 10:

Yesterday was a short day due to the weather in Boston. The judge didn't want folks driving in bad conditions.

Evidence from the rental car used that night was found in a dumpster at the Enterprise rental location. It included gum, shell casings, and a vitamin water bottle. (Aaron was seen earlier at a convince store purchasing the Vitamin Water)

The Jury also saw video of Aaron at the police headquarters the day after the murder. He was seen taking the battery out of his blackberry and using his lawyers phone to contact Ernest Wallace. One of the other two men who were with him that night. They weren't told who's phone it was.

The officer who recorded that outside of the police headquarters Det. Elliot is back on the stand today.

NOW ON THE STAND: Enterprise-Rent-A-Car Employee Keelia Smyth. She was the branch manager and rented the two vehicles to Aaron on June 10. A Suburban and Nissan Altima. He brought the Altima back on the June 17th with damage done to the driver side mirror and scratches. He then rented a Chrysler 300. He told her he didn't know how the damage happened. She also cleaned out the Altima and found the shell casings and empty vitamin water bottle.

Good thing they have an ungodly amount of alternate jurors. I really feel for those folks. I think I read a complaint early on that this was moving very slowly and that was pre blizzard...

Right. On top of losing two alts already.

I'm all for this guy going to jail, but isnt this a violation of some lawyer/client law/rule? Surely there is lawyer client privelage being taken away here by recording what happened?

One, it's visual not a conversation. Two, it was in the public therefore no reasonable expectation of privacy.

It was outside the police station, where cameras are setup in plain view around the building. The office in the control room panned over to see what Aaron was doing and zoomed into the car. The defense kind of had a field day with that, as there was no reason to zoom into the car. The officer said he wanted to see what he was doing and wanted to know if he was coming back. But it was a public place.

I had no idea about this thread, I'm gonna subscribe. Interested to see the outcome.

I wonder if you changed the thread title to "NFL Patriot's TE Aaron Hernandez Murder Trial" if it would get more participation.

Hes not a Patriots TE though, you mean former? and I think the title is fine as is.

Thanks for the continual updates, Odinson! Hopefully this trial picks up steam. Too many delays is likely giving the defense more time to find an out. Not like there are many for Hernandez, the dude basically spoon fed the prosecution.

If only they could recover the gun...
