They're trying to make an "all-ages" show but they're doing so in a way that it becomes bipolar, going from one extreme (lined up power rangers style shots, cheesy action sequences, "OMG A GHOST" episode) and the other (people being burned alive, Coulson's brain.)

This is actually a huge issue. The show itself is surprisingly violent and much more graphic than any of the MCU movies so far, what with people being burned to a crisp and creepy brain reconstruction (seriously, I haven't been this grossed out since Fringe's Marionette), yet SHIELD agents largely refuse to shoot at people with anything but tranq guns and blood is kept at minimum levels.

It's like they are trying to make a proper SHIELD show but they don't want to scare the moms and dads watching it with their sons. Which would be really stupid.

Edit: The episode was decent. Not great, but decent. At least we learned what the deal was with Tahiti and got to know that Fury *is* a bit of a fuckhead also in the MCU.

I would've thought Avengers made that clear when Fury wiped a bunch of trading cards in his dead friend's blood. :lol

I wonder how episode 14 is going to look. It'll be the show's first chance to really "respond" to everything so far. (though I imagine an actual retool will be reserved for going into S2)

I was super bothered by that pretty chick (I can't even remember her name) going I'M HERE TO STOP THE BAD GUYS, BECAUSE I AM PART OF THE GOOD GUYS, SO IF YOU WANT SOME BAD PEOPLE TO DO BAD THINGS BLABALBLABLALBA

This show needs to narrow down their target demographic, because pretty chick's lines sounded like something straight out of a kid's show but the brain scene is decidedly not kid-friendly.

Seems C4 in the UK have dropped showing it 3 days after the US, will keep an eye on this thread to see if it's worth continuing with when it does return.

Can't see a huge step-up happening though, the first half just felt so amateurish with no weight to anything.

That says alot first I've heard of it too, I stopped watching about 3 episodes back, and I don't regret it from the sound of the Coulson revelation. F*ck sake.

What, Katie like in Katie Cassidy from Arrow?

No way, what happened to her face in that particular picture?

Oh my god...

You should come by the Arrow thread and join the conversation about her weight loss/maybe chin implant issues. Despite what some libelous harpies say, we are not bad folk.

Katie went all Dawn of The Second Day, crescent moon face. The Felicity sensation got to her. :( i hope nothing happens to Chloe or Elizabeth after the eventual victory in the fandom war....

Pretty cool they wrangled Bill Paxton. Hope it doesn't turn into a wasted opportunity.

Do you think him being a cyborg will link to the speculation of Mike Peterson becoming Deathlok?

My expectations are at an all time low... so if you ask me probably not. But I think it's pretty obvious Peterson's going to have some prosthetics (just so Richards can actually use his real leg). Will they ever refer to Peterson has Deathlok? Who knows.

So will Donnie be held responsible for all the people that were probably killed in that storm? Let alone all the property damage?

Oh wow, they managed to surprise me with a really good episode. Except the more I learn about the MCUs version of SHIELD the more I hate it.

That was the first episode that actually attempted (and mostly succeeded at) more than a half-assed attempt at world-building. Pretty solid, I thought. I suppose they might be setting up some sort of quasi-Masters of Evil later on with Graviton and Blizzard.

Preview for the next episode looks pretty terrible, though.
