Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed coming to PS4 in NA this holiday (PS3/Vita 8/12)

Not to sound like an ass but I think it's pretty self-explanatory. If you don't get it, then it's not for you.

You don't sound like an ass ;)

Why ask why? Ask why not! ;)

...In all seriousness, though, what is it you don't understand? Your question is a bit broad, which makes it hard to answer. Are you approaching this from the "it's clearly a pandering fanservice game, so why are people championing it?" angle that a lot of media outlets have taken, or from the "it looks like just another anime-inspired JRPG, so what sets it apart?" angle?

Or is this more of a general "tell me what makes this game good" request?

In any of these three cases, the answer will boil down to "it's an envelope-pushing satire RPG with an irreverent sense of humor, a unique setting based very accurately on a real-life location, gameplay that centers very heavily on customization and silly experimentation, and a story that's surprisingly nuanced and well-written with characters who are quirky, charming and generally all-around likeable."

But that brief explanation can be expanded upon quite differently depending on your angle.

-Tom

I indeed more meant in a general 'what makes this game good'. I mean, everywhere I look it pretty much only mentions that you strip people from their clothes xD

I'm listening to the music loop on the site, and I have to say, I sort of love it.

How were import impressions on this game?

Wyrdwad/Tom,

Is there a digital discount planned for the launch week? Doesn't stop my purchase, just wondering.

Shame on no Cross-Save, but Vita it is!

Off Topic: any clue on a release timeframe for Brandish? It's digital only, so no retailer guess release dates are available.

Not to my knowledge, sorry!

That pretty much depends on Falcom, at this point. Their schedule is our schedule. ;)

As HoursLeft said, the difference is practically nil. These are the notable advantages each version has:

Vita
- AR mode
- Doesn't save System Data alongside game data (so faster saving/loading)
- Slightly better framerate in certain situations (both versions drop framerate a bit when loading NPCs into the area, though the Vita version seems to perform a little better in this regard)

PS3
- Easier-to-read text due to the larger screen, particularly for emails and Pitter
- Dynamic shadows during gameplay, as opposed to circle shadows

I struggle to think of any other differences between the two, honestly. They're both nearly identical in almost every regard.

-Tom
Then I'll keep the Vita since...well, the system needs some love.

By the way... interview!

http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2014/08/05/akibas-trip-interview-challenges-otakus-and-more/

Also... they're heeeeeeeeeere...

https://www.facebook.com/XSEEDGames...63718093353/10152299444823354/?type=1&theater

ALSO also, I know a few people were asking about the resolution and framerate of the PS4 version of Akiba's Trip, and I finally have that information for you!

- Akiba's Trip PS4 runs at a full 1080p during gameplay, but oddly enough, in what may be the exact reverse of what usually happens with most ports to higher-capability systems, the menu and art assets are all 720p upscaled to 1080p. So the 3D models and backgrounds are true 1080p HD, but the menus and still images are not.

- The game runs at 30fps, not 60fps, but according to Acquire, this was done in order to accommodate a much larger number of NPCs on-screen at once without losing any frames along the way. They also said that they're using some sort of "between-frame processing" technique to create the illusion of 60fps -- and honestly, it seems to work, as we were all absolutely convinced the game must've been running at a smooth 60fps until Acquire told us otherwise.

So, there you have it!

I've had a customer throw around similarities between this and Ryu ga Gotoku. Would you say that's a fair way to talk about the combat system?

Nice I wonder if the regular twitch streams have anything to do with it? If I were a product manager looking to localize that's definitely where I'd start...Sega look at Yakuza's PS4 live stream audience!

Actually, my dirty little secret is... I've never played a Yakuza game.

I know, I know! I should! But... I haven't. So I'm not really the one to ask for comparisons here.

I will say that it bears a striking similarity gameplay-wise to another Acquire title we've localized, Way of the Samurai 4... and people often compare the Way of the Samurai and Yakuza series... so in that sense, yes, I think that might be a fair comparison? But don't quote me on that, because I just honestly don't know.

Quoting you in a post just because. ;)

Man, I actually forgot that you guys localized that here in the States.. I played a ton of the first three games and ended up importing the fourth one from Europe (I've got a soft spot for physical copies.). Knowing that it's like another of my favorite PS franchises is even better news. And yes, I know WotS3 was on 360.

Next week can't come quickly enough~

Seeing some footage actually got more of my attention :D My only question, why is it taking 2 months for this game to arrive in Europe, once again I feel screwed :(

Ermac

Proudly debt free. If you need a couple bucks, just ask.
Is there an embargo for reviews? Haven't seen any yet.

Is it cross save?

If so, I'll grab Vita for now, and wait until the PS4 version hits.

And what size is it for Vita?

'Fraid not. We weren't able to get cross-save or cross-buy functionality added to the game. We've suggested the addition of cross-save in a future patch, but it's unknown whether or not this will even be possible.

And what size is it for Vita?

The Japanese PSN download is around 1.7 GB, but the English version will be considerably larger due to the presence of dual voice data. Our master file is around 2.6 GB, but Sony compression on PSN usually shrinks rom sizes quite a bit, so I'd estimate it'll be right in the middle of those two somewhere -- maybe 2.2 or 2.3 GB? At the very least, it'll be no less than 1.7, no more than 2.6.

SWEET!! I had been worried about space on my 32gb but if this clock in under 3gb I should be fine for now...

Any word if its going to be getting a physical release or just a digital release on the Vita? As I want to get the physical version and would rather not wait an extra couple of months if its digital only over here.

I don't believe NIS America has announced one way or the other, so I can't say for sure.

Bear in mind, though, that whenever an outside publisher (as in, not our parent company) has released one of our titles overseas in the past, it's always been physical. If it were just going to get a digital release, we'd be hesitant to let anyone else handle that when we could easily do it ourselves (as we have with so many other XSEED titles).

Oh, here's a question I have I haven't been able to find an answer to;

The first game, after beating it, let you play as more or less any character model(every pedestrian, main character, ect) in the game, does that return for this one?

Or limited to only the main female partners, the main male characters, the sister, ect?

Oh, that's very much back. Though you don't unlock every character model right away -- you'll need to beat the game a few times to unlock them all.

But they are ALL unlockable.

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.

It actually wasn't.

We haven't announced a release date for the PS4 version yet. And while that's probably a placeholder date we gave Amazon so they can start taking preorders (meaning it IS technically the date we're shooting for), I can tell you with absolutely certainty that it's a total shot-in-the-dark guess, as we're nowhere near ready to give a firm date on the PS4 version. Initial text translation of the added features is done, but we haven't even gotten our first English build yet for testing, so we're still a ways away.
