NateTheHate - Starfield is coming to PS5 & intent should be announced this year

Hard pass. My expectations were low, because I knew this is Bethesda and the same (only updated) engine.

The game was still a big disappointment. Loading screens everywhere breaking immersion, copy-pasted locations you'll notice right away and a horrible main story.

I came back to this last month after putting about 4 hours in at launch and bailing. I think the opening was poor and they picked the wrong place to have you spend the first 5 hours.

I ended up loving the game. It's Bethesda jankie, and probably the last game to use this engine but there's some genuinely beautiful stuff out there in the galaxy and it's constantly jaw defying to land somewhere and realise all this voice scripted and explorable.

I ended up getting 1000/1000. I played on easy, I only played main and faction quest lines, I think I did most the optional quests, I did build a base and it was kind of fun and I didn't bother with ship building.

As someone who loved Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. Fallout 3, NV and to a lesser extent 4. I'd say give this 10 hours, not 5, and don't listen to people who've never played it tell you it's not worth it. I found out there's quite the Reddit community if you want some balanced opinion.

I expect a port next year myself, still sad to see to a few Generation fans hating on a game they've never owned or played.; It brings back memories of when PS fans hated on HALO and called it the 'grass' game

Hopefully, the sequel will address the major flaws I had with the game that were... too much loading, no land vehicle missions and being able to fly to a planet's moon in real time. Otherwise, I enjoyed the game and the firefights were/are some of the best to any game IMO

When I got to that part in the game I actually burst out laughing..

I knew I'd never play such a gift again.
Holy fuck you have to be kidding me lmao.

I can't lie, I'm burned out on them and the nostalgia can't hide it anymore but I wish Starfield clicked for me.

This game got WAY TOO much hate

Was it the masterpiece we wanted? no

But I finished the whole campaign and started NG+ (Mainly because of what happened at the end of the game IYKYK)

Fun story, nothing earth shattering, but good enough. Also many fun areas and side content. Some of the side content was actually very intriguing.
It does and doesn't. The ques lines were pretty fucking good for a Bethesda game, but many of us fans enjoy the exploration and uncovering of random, hand crafted, cool shit in the world. Starfield had none of this. The planets were all boring and exploration was fucking terrible. They also doubled down on the building shit, which I personally hate. Todd thought people would play this thing forever which is fucking insane. Most couldn't finish it or would never play a second time because the world was so dull outside of the main questlines.

They were happy to let people believe this was Skyrim in space before launch and after launch they essentially ignored any feedback with the core fanbase convinced they would keep adding content, fix the open world… they completed some of the content they had been working on, released a few patches, but had clearly moved their developers and artists somewhere else.

I am sure starfield would sell gangbusters on playstation at launch, coz back then we werent in the know how bad of a game it actually is, ppl thought its basically skyrim/fallout in space, now it wont sell as good but could still sell quite a bit, especially with more casual crowd.

Looking forward for people to say "hey it's actually good *now that I can play it*"

People who can and did play it unanimously said it's shit.

Yup, missed the boat in a spectacular fashion. Another L for the strategic masterminds at Microsoft.

Quick question :
Is this game actually salvageable ?
Meaning, besides the obvious constant loading screens which are here to stay, are there any gameplay improvements that could be done as to make it generally better/more enjoyable ?

The biggest peeve people seem to have is with the exploration part in that it's apparently "boring", am I getting this right ?

All the problems of Starfield are stemming from the fundamentally wrong game structure and they cannot be fixed because the whole concept of fake space rpg with tons of loading screens is atrocious.

Even modding died out, there's nothing to salvage.

Starfield's problems go way beyond performance or goofy bugs or AI. It's flawed down to its very core.

The game's entire structure, entire gameplay loop, entire DNA is a complete misfire. You can't fix something like that unless you reboot the entire game and rebuild it from the ground up.

Imagine the sales if this came day 1 to PlayStation. With all that hype. Would have sold millions.

Right now, knowing what we know, it's much more indifferent.

Yup. I assume MS knows or strongly suspects this is the case - that they lost millions by not releasing simultaneously. I think this will be good learning experience for them and reinforce the idea of releasing games simultaneously in the future, rather than after a delay.

Unlike Skyrim and Fallout, I likely wont replay it, so agree on that. Also I hate the building shit that they started in Fallout 4 and now feel every game needs it. Exploration was very meh. Not awful, just very meh. Especially once you kinda learn how the "grids" are. Some of the quests are pretty good though and I did WANT to finish the game

Good luck to the Sony bros who buy this. Play Outer Worlds or No man's sky instead. I'm a zenimax fan and this was a miss for me.

I'm so over bethesdas idea of base building and I've been over it since Fallout 4 dropped. It's just not good.

Now the shipbuilding they put in Starfield I can fuck with. If they drop an elder scrolls game and it's on the coast and we can build sailing ships like you do spaceships? Yeah I'm down with that.

Never messed with the shipbuilding in Starfield. I know many praise it. I just did the SMALL little "required" parts of it to move the story along. Never been a fan of building anything in games, ever lol

Yeah i think the base building stuff is probably here to stay unfortunately. I like the idea but the execution is pretty bad.

I'm totally with you about fo4, it really dragged progress down. You can see them iterating on it with oblivion to skyrim to fo4. I bought the ultimate edition of skyrim with all the creator content and sometimes it's just too much shit.

I might buy it on PlayStation if it has Pro support and hits a sale. It wasn't a bad game but it was a bit quirky at times. I think I stopped playing because I lost an entire four hour playthrough to Unity. At the time, I was doing 10+ starborn runs and that took the wind out of my sails. It has been hard for me to get back into it. Starting fresh might be fun.

Its insane how much I want to like this game, the gunplay, loot and overall clean sci-fi IQ really is pleasing.
And yet this game is so ass that there's just no reason to pick it up again. Busted from the core. What an embarrassment.

First, I tried Starfield on my Series X and i thought, y'know, this game is ass.

Second, I tried Starfield on my 4090 and thought, maybe it was ass because the performance wasn't quite there on Xbox, but then I discovered, it's cheeks.

No saving this.

I remembered people clamoring that Starfield will save Xbox or something.

So that's the new thing , enter threads about Xbox games coming to PS5 & talk about how bad the games are?

So this isn't the game people were boasting about a few years ago .

Another game for the "Bad Game" pile.
The massive number of really bad games make it incredibly difficult to find the tiny number of great games.
Really makes you wonder if there could ever be a curated game console.

Did you enjoy Fallout 4?

It can be turned into a mix of No Mans Sky's galaxy exploration + Fallout 4's weapons upgrade system.

That sort of gameplay loop.

I dont think they intend to have exploration like Skyrim in this, like, you land on a planet, then just explore on foot.

Instead each planet can be a stop on your way to reach your goal (which can be a quest). Then figure out how to continue your journey by getting fuel, upgrade items for your weapons etc.

There are plenty of things they can do with it, but this seems feasible.

Other stuff involves making a ton of quests settlements etc and fill the planets with unique stuff. Not sure that's achievable.

I had a lot of fun with Starfield but I can't imagine replaying it.

Honestly the hate boner makes no sense on this one.
