This is gonna rustle some jimmies.

Not saying everything it does is bad, the combat is alright, and the shipbuilding is really cool. But the overall sum of its parts is completely mediocre.

Keep your garbage, MS. One of the most pathetically outdated games to come out in over five years. I used to be a fan of Bethesda, F76 killed 60% of it, and starfield stomped it into the ground.

I wouldn't be surprised anymore at this point. Xbox as a brand is going the way of the dinosaur, and honestly, it's probably the better move long term for MS to become a 3rd party publisher.

Kinda becoming redundant to talk about this stuff.

Microsoft is porting over most of their stuff, it's just a manner of how long it takes them to do it, and how much each is a priority. They're making a mobile storefront as well, they wanna be everywhere since they can't be the dominant platform itself.

game got overhyped and as a result didn't live up to the hype

its not great but not as bad as it's made out to be

Yeah the game definitely has some merits. The graphics for planets, stars, and outer space in general are gorgeous. The combat is probably the best Bethesda has ever done. The faction quests are cool. It at least implemented more and better RPG mechanics than Fallout 4.

But the issues with it are so strong, so many, and so fundamental, that they drag the whole game down. I love Bethesda games, I have loved every single one they ever made, even F76 after the expansions and updates is great. But Starfield is fundamentally ill conceived, its core issues all come from its gameplay focus running counter to the very things that Bethesda is otherwise good at. I wouldn't say it's totally irredeemable and if someone is interested, it's worth at least trying, but to go from them making literally some of my favorite games of all time to them making a game that's not even in my list of favorites for the year it came out, is a bit disappointing.

I enjoyed Neon and some of the other cool cities to explore.

The space combat is pretty fun as well. Also some of those damn side quests were bangers. Incredibly long as well. The one where they hadn't reached Hyper Speed and so they are traveling on a generational ship, where folks die and younger ones carry on flying... THAT was a super cool side quest. Very entertaining that one

agree on the faction quests. The space pirates one (can't remember the name) was really good.

But opting to make the game so damn wide in terms of the galaxy was a massive mistake. It's wide, 95% empty, and has next to no depth. They honestly would've been better picking a section of it and handcrafting each world in it as opposed to letting us go to a massive number of barren and wasted locations.

Edit: I go back to it every now and then to try and make progress but it just never holds me very long.

Yeah, I liked that quest, it had some of the classic BGS side quest quality I love. Neon as a city was great, New Atlantis was fine. My issue with the cities is that there were not enough (only four in the entire galaxy????) and they were all so boring and lame. You are making a game set in outer space, you can go wild with cities. Imagine a city that was set on an asteroid belt or comet cloud. Imagine a city on a planet with diamond rock. Imagine a city that's entirely self contained in a space station. Imagine a city in the clouds, a city on a moon, there were so many crazy things they could do. And instead they made four fairly vanilla cities?

The space combat and building never clicked for me, but I know those have their fans lol, so I won't call those bad outright

The most dissapointing, technically baffling, braindead, design by committee gaming experience I've ever had. With copious amounts of Reddit humour to boot.

If it cracks 200k I'd be surprised. This game left no impression at all on the cultural fabric.

This is the big issue! They are amazing at making relatively compact worlds that feel massive because of the amount of detail and content in them. With Starfield, they made a gigantic world, most of it procedurally generated, diluted their points of interest, and separated all content with a half dozen loading screens (this is not an exaggeration, it literally requires seven loading screens to leave one planet and land on another), and the actual content in the game is lower quality than ever before. They should have cut down the scope a little and focused.

I go back to it every now and then to try and make progress but it just never holds me very long.
Exactly the same for me, I love BGS games, so I keep trying to love this one, but every time I try I end up more disappointed and annoyed instead.

Yeah, no question on the cities in an asteroid belt or a comet cloud for sure would be cool.

I wanna see more "space events" happen in space. Stars going super nova and giant comets shooting and solar flairs and all kinds of shit like that

It'll be good for people who want it to be able to play it. Not the best game I have played but I enjoyed my time with it.

Will it tho? People moved on the moment it wasn't this mega successful undisputed GOTY exclusive that some guys were mouthing like it was the second coming 🤷‍♂️
Yes. Not because of the quality of the game, but due to the massive hype it received (including a reassurance for Sarah on stage), as well as Phil Spencer's "business update" regarding its exclusivity. The X-Boys adopted this game as their biggest champion of "exclusives matter", and now Sony fanboys know how it feels to be excluded; it became as important as a Halo or Gears game (around this narrative of Exclusivity)

Yup, imagine you having to plan your space flight around a solar flare, imagine big black holes in uncharted systems and parts of the galaxy that you have to deal with. There's so much potential in the idea, BGS just didn't really do much with any of it.

It's a shame, because the idea itself is great. I hope in a future sequel they do right by it.

This titles sales legs got completely cut off by the decision to make it an Xbox console exclusive.

It could have sold millions of copies had it launched on PS5 too, based solely on the Todd Howard hype.

Of course it will come, Xbox is desperately porting everything it has to PS5 to save the brand and be able to sell the games that it can't on its dead platform, but Starfield no longer has much impact, the only thing left is Halo.

Starfield, BG3, Avowed, KCD2 and that's about it I guess ?

Honestly, I think Microsoft might be better off releasing Avowed rather than Starfield at this point. Avowed is more recent and has had more sustained positive 'buzz' between both players and critics. Years of player complaints about Starfield (and the very mediocre DLC that landed with a dull thud with everybody, users and critics alike) are an albatross around Starfield's neck.

If I were in Microsoft's shoes, I'd focus on getting Avowed ported first, then maybe shadow drop Starfield later with minimal fanfare.

With all the negative buzz around Starfield, I'd only be interested if Bethesda announces this as a real rework. Not just a port.

I'm talking "A Realm Reborn" levels of rework. That could really help this game redeem itself.

If making that prediction makes you an insider, we all can be insiders.

Yeah, no kidding. That's a pretty vague prediction. "Intent should be announced this year." That doesn't even mean it's coming this year, just that "intent should be announced." Big deal.

Tainted Grail just released today, and it's looking pretty good. It's flying under the radar (it's a AA effort from a small studio, overshadowed by Oblivion remaster), and it won't set the charts on fire, but a lot of people are enthusiastic about it, and it has good word of mouth. I haven't played it yet myself, but from what I'm hearing, it seems to be another of those AA passion projects that put the AAA games to shame. It was made by a team of 50 people.

Xbox brand is going nowhere. Gamepass is entirely dependent on the brand lol.

Starfield does have its issues, primarily around the POIs (although those are supposed to be undergoing a big re-working in a future update), but dammit, I had a lot of fun with it and it's the game I miss the most since I got rid of my Xbox. I'll be getting the PS5 version day-one for sure.

That's sweet honey
Now let daddy do his thing and only bother me when you remade fallout 3

How ironic is that Microsoft buys Bethesda cause they didn't want Starfield to be PS5 exclusive, then make it Xbox exclusive, just to release it anyway on PS5
