only thing with Extraordinary is...we just got done coming back from the effects from House of M, give it some damn time before yet another extinction event.

god it would suck being a mutant with all the bullshit that keeps happening, almost as bad as being an inhuman.

Nothing's worse than a filthy Inhuman.

Uncanny ends with the ultimate #Cyclopswasright, Extraordinary starts with Cyclops doing something that made the world hate mutants more than ever.

There must be balance within the force.

Bendis' run on Uncanny was non-canonical. The only way current events will make sense is if you pretend Bendis' run never happened. Marvel's never going to show what happened in the eight month gap between the end of Secret Wars and ANAD because they'd end up writing themselves into a corner that would need to be retconned. By not committing to a definitive series of events, they'll be able to handwave continuity issues for at least several years.

There was supposed to be a goddamn explanation. This was supposed to make Secret Wars #1 make sense.

There was never going to be an explanation. Marvel editorial values keeping Bendis happy over forcing narrative cohesion.

It's crazy how inconsistent Bendis can get. Some of the highest highs and lowest lows of recent Marvel history. His entire X-Men run (Uncanny and All-New) just feels... poorly managed. I feel like he was writing a 100 issue run, not a 40 issue run - I mean, at some point he had to know he had like six months to wrap up all of his loose ends, but instead he continued to drag his feet and let threads plod on and on.

He seems to be back in top form with Iron Man, though. But I'm sure his Guardians will still be garbage.

Since I don't hate myself I never followed Bendis's run on X-Men.

Can someone clue me in as to what everyone is talking about in Extraordinary X-Men in regards to what terrible thing Cyclops did?

Unless they are *still* harping on about X-Men vs. Avengers. God I hope not.

No indication at the present moment. AvX is a safe bet.

Wow-Vision out of nowhere. What a fucking book! I loved the "Android" recreation of a husband and wife argument about having to repeat yourself. This is top tier writing.

I'm guessing he did some terrorism in response to the Terrigen Mists in the eight month gap.

Some book thoughts for this week so far:

Amazing Spider-Man #3
Another really good issue- Slott is firing on all cylinders again, and it's great. On one hand, I feel like everyone who didn't kneejerk fly off the handle when they learned in the solicit that Parker was buying out
the Baxter Building
sorta came to the same conclusion about why he would do that, that he ultimately explains in the book, but the little moments celebrating Peter and Johnny's brotherly relationship have always been great- as are the moments between Peter and
Harry, and the drinks all three of them share. Plus, picking up on the angle of Peter hiring his villains! That was one of my favorite sub-plots that Slott was playing with pre-Superior, and outside of the end of Superior Foes, we really lost that thread for a while there. Glad to see it back, and in a more meaningful context than ever.

Interesting new continuity note (minor New Avengers spoilers as well):
So, in New Avengers, Maker doesn't remember being from an alternate universe- but he's still Reed Richards. He's still a Mr. Fantastic. Has those powers, has that history... but the FF who owned the Baxter Building immortalized in stone here? It's clearly 616 Reed. If Maker thinks he always lived in U-8, what happened to his memories of the Four? Of himself? Surely he'd have heard about this team in his lifetime, so it's not like he can't know there's another Reed Richards. I'm interested in seeing how this plays out, but these are probably answers we can't have until Secret Wars ends.

Hercules #1
I don't have a lot of love for Hercules as a character, but I do have a lot of love for Dan Abnett as a writer, so I came into this with high expectations. Fortunately, this book is pretty much exactly what I wanted. Like with Ewing's books, it's the little things that keep me so engaged in this book. Herc is such a charming character, and the way it's using Gilgamesh is fantastic. The way the font changes from modern to classical Greek when Hercules starts talking like the old days, but the thing that really sold me on this was the approach Herc has to the modern days- I love the idea of one of the gods running around the Marvel Universe fully embracing what it means to live in modern times, just straight up carrying a bag of guns around, learning modern speech and insisting on using it because he's not just a relic of the past, and encouraging other mythical monsters to change and become part of the world instead of fighting against it. That's a pitch that I can really get behind.

Also, the panel showing that
Hercules adds the kids Yu-Gi-Oh cards to his collection of sacred offerings because he really does consider it those kids treasure, right next to a baseball, snowglobes, a Hulk action figure and some classic "real" treasure.
I love moments like these, with Marvel gods interacting with normal people and just being cool. It reminds me of those couple pages from Aaron's Thor where he went to go visit the monk in the mountains to tell stories, bring Asgardian fruits to the starving and poor, and went to visit an inmate on Death's Row. Good shit, looking forward to all 11 issues that we'll get after this before inevitable cancellation.

Vision #1
Fuck, man. Tom King is a damn good writer. Grayson was great, but I wasn't sure what exactly to expect from him here- I certainly didn't expect the creepy, foreboding, generally uncomfortable book that this is. King's use of narration boxes is what really sells this- the whole thing feels like you're just waiting for everything to go really, really bad, and I'm really looking forward to where they go from here.

Yea both Hercules and Vision were the highlights of the week.

Lowlight was Nova. Still dogshit, dropping that real quick.

Well I'm done with Herc(the art in this book is on point), Vision, as well as Dr. Strange and won't be reading them anymore. I also didn't enjoy this issue how Howard as much as what I've read from the previous run.

The only books from this week that are staying on my pull list are:
ASM
Deadpool
X-Men
Nova
Iron Man

I have a pretty general idea of how my list will probably look ones everything is in full swing.

I picked up Iron Man #3 and Amazing Spider-Man #3.

Thus far I'm really liking these series! I can't wait for the next ones. :D

Hoping everyone is enjoying them as well.

They just... don't... get it.

Then again, neither do I. I keep checking Nova out hoping it'll surprise me or make me a believer, like Ms. Marvel did. Nope.

I thought nova was nice. The majority of the issue was just setting up the new status quo though.

Doubt anyone here picked up Howard the duck but anyone catch that little short bit in the end with Gwenpool? Can't deny she's just a deadpool knockoff but she has her own things going for her and I had a good laugh here and there.

I'm pretty sure Val is older in Secret Wars. She just doesn't look like a four year old.

What book is this F4 statue in though?

Amazing Spider-Man 3. Parker bought the Baxter Building and has a F4 statue in the lobby.

I read it, however I want to know how she got into the mainland universe.

Thoughts for the week.

Vision
Holy shit, this was a good book. Tom King might be my favorite writer now. Everything he has done on Grayson and Omega Men has been excellent. This isn't superheroics but it's really, really well done sci-fi in the Marvel Universe.

Doctor Strange
I'm rooting for this book because Aaron seems to have a fresh take on Dr. Strange's personality beyond "just the uptight magic guy" that he has been written as for the past decade or so under Bendis. Bacchalo's doing some good work, but overall I can't help but feel that both of these guys are doing a bit of a retread of Wolverine & The X-Men. Still going to keep picking it up.

Extraordinary X-Men
This is what I was afraid of for Lemire. He's never been that strong at team books and this shows. His Nightcrawler and Collosus sections were good, but I really don't feel that the roles for the team have solid foundations. He hasn't sold me on the idea of Storm as the defacto leader and everything with Jean and the Terrigen threat seems a little old-hat.

Uncanny X-Men
I'm glad this ride is over. I honestly feel as if Bendis only pushed the issue of Iceman's sexuality in a stunt to actually leave a lasting impact on the franchise. The whole thing feels forced and out of character for everyone involved. The Hank McCoy stuff is also rushed and barely begins to wrap up the major plot point of Bendis's run on the book.

Iron Man
This was mostly good Bendis. Don't really know where the plot is going, though. Way too wordy (23 speech bubbles on one panel!)

Parallax

best seen in the classic "Shadow of the Beast"
Yeah Franklin looked like a toddler and Val a tween. Maybe something changed the F4. Doom seems quite different in Iron Man too.

Edit: Sorry for the double post.

or they dont know how to draw a little girl for some reason. shes been looking older than she is for a long time now

I thought that ending could lead to Nation X and every mutant united under Cyclops, like shown in the Avengers issues pre-Secret Wars, although it'd still need a lot of actual set up.

Eh. Maybe, but I don't really see it. Was probably more tied to the stuff Remender did during Axis, but Bendis entirely ignored it.

That's true but I don't think they have ever drawn Valeria to look older than Franklin only the same age or younger.

theyve drawn valeria to look like a preteen before when brevoort said she was still 3 at the time.

I knew I should've have skipped out on Vision. I left it at the last minute. Gonna stop by tomorrow during lunch and hope they still have a copy.

UX #600 was a pretty weak send off. I'm hoping the new writers can give us a good new direction with the books.

I like Bendis actually and have dug a lot of what he's done on the books but he should have wrapped up the clusterfuck he created in a better way.

Ho. Ly. Shit.

That OP... I want to read 90% of those...

Where the fuck is Marvel Unlimited in australia, already?

(Also: How many freaking Genderflips there there?! Star Lord? WOLVERINE!?!? And THE FUCKING SPACEKNIGHTS ARE BACK?!)

I had to read Vision again. It was so good-I can't remember the last time a book surprised me like that.

For whatever reason Bendis paced himself poorly and had to resolve everything in the final issue.

Reading Vision made me wanna read Grayson, is Grayson similar in tone to Vision?

Grayson's slightly more campy and fun than Vision is, but is still a brilliantly written book. Check out the "Futures End" issue for some of the best storytelling in comics last year. I'd recommend King's run on Omega Men. It's way more serious in tone and is really, really damn good. There isn't a panel wasted in that book.

For whatever reason Bendis paced himself poorly and had to resolve everything in the final issue.

Bendis paced himself poorly throughout his entire run. Remember "The Last Will and Testament of Charles Xavier?" That started in during Original Sin and didn't finish until 9 months later and AXIS was finished.

He just bumbled through the entire run. I'm convinced he only made Bobby gay as a last ditch effort to say, "See! I did something in my run!"

Ridiculous levels of hype for Ultimates.

Cautious hype for Web Warriors- if it ends up being a bunch of Spider-Gwen pushing the others out of focus,or doesn't seem to pick up on any of those cliffhangers from Spider-Verse, I might be out.

If the preview pages for Ultimates are any indication, color me hyped.

Picking that up and giving ANAD Avengers a whirl.

These are all I'm getting this week. Hoping Ultimates is good (preview was great), same with Wolverine. (Tried out Spider-Man 2099's first two issues but the fridging of Miguel's love interest was dumb and series doesn't seem that interesting; would have preferred a continuation of SW2099's Avengers/Defenders stuff, there was potential there.)
