All PS4 Pro enhanced games (native support and boosted)

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing has a Pro mode. Can choose between 1080p, balanced and 4K if I remember correctly.

In the Horizon OT there are many reports about the Performance Mode.
Many people are saying that Performance Mode in a 1080p TV looks cleaner and sharper than the supersampled Resolution Mode.
This is very strange and surprising... could this be a glitch?
Rise of Tomb Raider looks amazing supersampled from a 4k CK resolution, and so other games.

I think this is the right place to investigate!

I know but what about the sharpness and IQ?
Many users (not only in this forum) are saying that the Performance Mode at 1080p native is sharper and cleaner. It's weird, I agree... but there are many reports about this issue.

I definitely can't claim to be an expert, but I find Resolution Mode to look better than Performance Mode. It definitely looks cleaner to me. But if others are having issues, I am curious to see what the cause is!

It looks a bit sharper and cleaner on resolution mode. I made the test in multiple places and noticed some textures were sharper, especially rocks (better AF or draw distance), there's a bit less shimmering and stuff like leafs and grass look a bit more defined.

I believe this may simply be subjective impressions. No screenshots I can find actually show better IQ on Performance mode. In all cases Resolution mode gives more accurate results (as we'd expect). The combination of slightly more contrasted AO with less high-frequency detail in Performance mode could plausibly look better to users with 1080p displays. There would be less shimmering, and more "definition", though ultimately the image is less precise.

Thanks for the info! Is there any way you could take some screenshots in the various modes, and give impressions on framerate?

The Division patched to 'native' 4K.

No performance loss, probably using checker boarding. Better AA as well.
The temporal AA is actually improved for both standard PS4 and Pro. But I think we can remove the quotes around "native" 4K. After looking at more shots, I have to concur with NXGamer that there's no visible evidence of reprojection or accumulation techniques. As rare as it has been so far, it seems The Division really is rendering at 3840x2160. I've updated the list to reflect this conclusion.

I also made other changes and additions. The new game is The Assembly, which recently added a regular screen version in addition to its VR playability. Both versions seem to have some minor upgrades on Pro. And after looking at more footage, I've made an update to DiRT Rally VR. The strong weather effects available on PC are missing in standard PS4 VR, but the Pro gets them. This is a big benefit, because they look pretty darn good. The streaking and buildup reminds me a lot of the Driveclub rain. When exactly did the Evolution Studios team move over to Codemasters?

Just downloaded this.
Homefront: The Revolution (v1.12)
  • Support for additional content
  • Added support for PlayStation 4 Pro
  • HDR Support
I don't have time to try the game properly but the only new setting in the options menu is to enable HDR support.

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
I have Boost mode on AND an SSD as my main drive.

This works WONDERS for Witcher 3 loading times.

THey're still slow, but they have easily been cut in half.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Yeah, that site tried to install all sorts of viruses on my machine when I clicked the first image.

Abload is one of the oldest most reliable image hosts around. As said above, you might wanna run some scans on your device.

Some more information also on the PS blog:

As well as the Beyond The Walls DLC, the Spring update also contains two substantial new features that we hope will attract new players to the game. First up, support for the PS4 Pro. HDR is the most noticeable addition, but look a little deeper and you may notice that we’re now rendering the game world to a 1440p buffer before up-scaling it to 4k to achieve a greater level of graphical fidelity.

The front end menus and all of the in-game UI layers are being rendered in a separate pass at 4k to the output buffer. Retro fans will also be pleased to hear that well-received Easter egg content is being rendered at native 4k, and finally HDR is now supported on the standard PS4.

No idea if supersampling is in for 1080p displays though.

Thanks! From what I can tell, supersampling is present, though I don't have the precise material needed for a definitive ruling. Also, the "easter egg" mentioned is a couple levels of TimeSplitters 2 playable from within Homefront. It's nice that they made it run at native 4K, higher than the actual game.

I've also added NieR:Automata, since I missed its Japanese launch date. I actually expect that the details for this one might change in a patch. The high MSAA added on Pro indicates there's a fair bit of headroom on the rendering. They could probably achieve 4K geometry rendering with little extra effort, or maybe even CBR. Hopefully the technical side continues to improve (though the reviews indicate the gameplay is already top-notch).

Thanks again for all the help, and please post shots of missing or unexamined games if you can. Much appreciated!

I came here looking for Disc Jam and walked away very sad.
Sorry for that. Since I don't have a Pro, I have to rely on screenshots and video generated by other people. My research on the web hasn't turned up any 4K screens of Disc Jam yet, so I'm unable to do any analysis.

If it eases the pain any, I have added The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands, and Torment: Tides of Numenera. Feel free to check out the details, and if you have the games to enjoy, let me know if I made any errors or omissions.

As always, contributions of screenshots and impressions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Homefront 2 has a Pro version.

Bloodborne is rotting away in sub-30fps land with laggy pacing.

There is no god.

Well, once the new firmware is available to everyone, the situation will improve. Bloodborne with Boost mode runs at very solid 30fps, and framepacing issues are somewhat reduced (though not eliminated). It's not as good as a real patch, but it'll help.

No Mans Sky getting a Pro update. No technical details yet other than:

HDR implementation in No Man's Sky seems out of whack. Colors in the UI are completely over saturated. Can anyone confirm they're seeing the same problem? Using a LG C6.

Sick of no Skyrim fix. They should at least have an 1800p option with better frame rate. Bethesda sucks.

Okay, here's the big one. I've added forma.8 and No Man's Sky to the list. Note that the latter is indicated at 1440p, but not because I've pixel counted it. That's just because it seems clear some supersampling is going on at 1080p, so I've selected a very low bar for the rendering behind it. This number is very likely to change once I get some real shots to test--feel free to contribute some if you want!

But also, with the announced release of firmware 4.50 tomorrow, I've updated the format. Regular and VR games are now in one post, and I've also expanded and clarified the OP. The largest change is the addition of a list of Boost Mode enhancements. Since new ones will probably be reported very fast and furious, and because due to subjectivity I foresee many conflicting reports, that list should be taken with even more caution than the normal ones. (I've done a decent amount of research on the current starting entries, but will have less opportunity in the next few days.) To signify the difference, I've used a separate color scheme.

I'll try to keep up, but it's likely to be hard at times. Please be patient, and continue posting your screenshots and impressions here even if I don't seem to be responding. In time, I'll get to everything.

Thanks again for all your help!

Why is FFXV listed as no change in boost mode? It has native Pro support.

That's right, it has Pro support so not utilising boost mode. Boost mode is for games that do not have a Pro patch, for example Bloodborne and Rainbow Six Siege. FFXV is listed in the first table: PS4 PRO.

Exactly. Which is why I wondered what it was doing in the boost mode table at all. Surely by that token, all games with native Pro support should be in that table as not having any changes in boost mode?

Thanks a lot, I have to say it again: very useful thread. I will try to post some No Man's Sky screens later on or tomorrow.
