http://www.the-magicbox.com- Sony's Izumi Kawanishi confirmed that the PlayStation Portable firmware can be updated by software, which can bring in new functions and correct errors. The PSP also comes with an anti-shock system, which is widely used in portable CD players.
I've been surprised at how little talk there has been on the subject (at least on these boards). Especially considering there were actual games running off the memsticks at TGS.Homebrew development, here we go!

How do you make an MD skip?seismologist said:i wonder how good the skip protection on this is. my minidisc skips like a mofo.

Hmm, how do you make a slot loading mechanism on something that is supposed to be as thin as possible and with as few moving mechanical parts as possible? Is there a portable minidisc player that has slot loading mechanism?Wyh didn't they just use a slot loading solution
At this point, I doubt even that would be convincing enough for some. You'd still have people saying that the inserted UMD is there just for decoration and that the game runs off the memory stick.Beat me to it... I was going to say great now if they can just show a PSP running a GAME off a UMD....
www.gamespot.comKawanishi also mentioned that the PSP will be able to play back video files, in H.264/AVC MP Level3 format. SCE is currently debating whether to release a tool for the PC that allows users to convert videos on their computer to the supported file format, said Kawanishi. In any case, since the PSP has no video out jack, users will not be able to play back movies onto an external screen.
I already have one of those, but their 3D capabilities suck teh ass, and the buttons control leave much to be desired. Definitely workable, but far from ideal. For "homebrew development" I'd probably get one of these instead of a PSP.
The PSP will then be recognized by the PC as a USB mass-storage device, and PSP users will be able to simply drag and drop the MP3 files from the computer's hard drive to the PSP.

A lot of news in this article from Gamespot but this got my attention:
"Kawanishi also mentioned that the PSP will be able to play back video files, in H.264/AVC MP Level3 format. I think that would be very interesting for the PSP as a portable video player.
Yeah I know what you mean but it's just the title thread so that everyone can easily locate all information for the PSP/DS and keep threads regarding those systems from cluttering up the forums.Elios83 said:But this is not 'PSP bullshit'
The point is that one might consider buying some of them that offer stuff that is not available elsewhere. I'd like to buy for example a music/video album from a favorite band or something like that (like the music DVDs that you can buy, but this would be portable)So what's the point of UMD movies again??
Hey, what exactly prevents careless friends from breaking a slot loading device?DaCocoBrova said:Wyh didn't they just use a slot loading solution )even though that could be considered one). I've seen many an MD player from some of my more careless friends, that have broken doors.
The PSP doesn't seem as durable as a portable should be.
I don't make the rules but someone beleived they were cluttering up the forums and made two stickied threads. I think it's ridiculous but I'm not a mod and all previous complaints regarding that situation were ignored. I also remember quite a few people complaining about all the PSP/DS threads so they probably are the main reason behind the stickies.Marconelly said:I seriously don't understand how are threads like this 'cluttering' forum? Are DS and PSP news not legitimate topics of conversation? Why don't we make 5 stickied threads for "<console name here> bullshit"? Why only DS and PSP?

Seeing the state of the games industry nowadays, I'd much rather listen to what companies like EA have to say about any business issue of this kind, but that would probably go against your pointIf you know anyone at any major Jap developers, ask them how many PSPs they have in the building and how much faith they have in the console. I guarantee you'll hear a lot of laughing.
I regarded it as sort of a disciplinary response to the OTT proliferation of DS topics immediately following the Oct. 7 Nintendo conference as well as the tendency for most DS or PSP topics to turn into DS vs. PSP heckling matches where most participants seem to be on auto-troll.Marconelly said:I seriously don't understand how are threads like this 'cluttering' forum?
