Almost 30 minutes of Star Wars Outlaws 4K gameplay demo

Gfx looks ok but gameplay? Jedi series from EA focuses on... Jedi, the most cool and interesting aspect of SW universe and games let you play as Jedi. This? Who cares about random "normal" characters, outlaw or not...

The game design feels so outdated at every level I can't believe they still use the same things over and over again: hey shoot that big interrupter that's highlighted by your "spiritual sense" or oh look that wall you can climb with a clearly defined path etc etc...
We already played this game before and I'm sure that was far better than anything this SW has to offer beside some vistas. Yet, I'm posting this for good measure: this is the actress Humberly González playing and doing mocap for Kay Vess:

as mentioned previously: it's simply her face/head with luke's chin/hair stuck on it:

y'know, for that authentic '70's look...

Nah. They altered the face so that it looks like all those post plastic surgery clowns going too far. We all know that look.

Few more tweaks and she's Mickey Rourke or Igor and Grichka Bogdanoff.

Looks boring as fuck.

Also will they stop with these retarded takedowns. This looks ridiculous

And its not just in this game either... I used to wonder why do Stormtroopers bother wearing armour at all when they all seem to be killed/KO'd with barely any effort whatsoever! I say "used to wonder" because apart from the Jedi games I've lost all interest in SW

It doesn't look too good in terms of gameplay, but up the difficulty, turn off markers ( hopefully ), set the audio to a language you don't understand, switch on subs and let the modders get to work... and there might be something worth playing. With voice AI it could be the Han Solo / Mandalorian game they should've made in the first place.

I'm a big star wars fan. But..If they decide to make this woman Luke's daughter or some other family linkage to the Skywalker's... I will quit Star Wars.

I had not seen that before, that is one of the stupidest things I have watched. Seriously, backhanding someone with a combat helmet on is supposed to knock them out. Way to pull you out of the game. Maybe use some moly wire and pull the guys head off or choke him out if you are going to do it bare handed.

Glad you asked

I hope they make an open-world Mandalorian game at some point. It doesn't have to be one from the series. Would be great to be able to upgrade and customize the armor.

...that's meant to prove their point, yes? Because the speeder bike section really has that feel.
It's not just a section, it's how you traverse from town to town and all around on that planet. There are 5 planets...that you also have different mounts/vehicles for, not to mention getting to each of those planets requires space travel, full on space missions and dogfights.

There seems to be a whole lot happening in this game.

That's not nothing, but it has the feel of being a mile wide but only an inch deep. Same with their latest Assassin's Creed, which has quite a few gameplay elements/systems, even compared to GoT, but each appears both shallow and rough.

It's also all too familiar if you've played Ubisoft's other titles, like Watchdogs. As for the space combat and traversal, it seems they're finally getting some return on the tech investment they made with Starlink, which was fun for a bit, but quickly became offputtingly repetitive.

I'll keep an open mind though. Their Avatar game was well received, so there may be more to this one than meets the eye, maybe even something new. If so, those qualities just aren't advertising at this point.

All solid points.

And yes, this runs the risk of just being an Ubisoft greatest hits of gameplay segments bolted together, but as a long time Star Wars fan, this also happens to check off a lot of boxes for a solid game.

I stopped playing the Ubisoft bloatfest stuff many years ago, so I might not be as susceptible to the disappointments and Groundhog Day-isms that go along with those trappings. I can see it, sure, but it also looks pretty fun. Not too much longer until we get to find out :messenger_rocket:

Honestly, this may be the smartest way to deal with publishers that push out yearly iterations of major franchises and/or similar gameplay systems across those franchises. If you just pick up one or two per gen, the iterative improvements feel fresh and significant.

Well played.

I also generally pick them up later on down the road when physical copies are in bargain-bin status to bolster my physical collection/backlog. Ubisoft games are notorious for this. I just picked up Avatar this week for $10, for instance.
Outlaws is Game-Locked with GameFly, haha.

Side note: I'm not sure why people keep entering threads about Ubisoft video games with anticipation and hype in mind, and then become disappointed and upset that the game is designed like an Ubisoft game.

Vaas made it very clear to you all generations ago, yet you all still do it, over and over and over.

Because there are 100% a small amount of people at Ubisoft who have passion and skill. Sometimes they get through
Watch dogs was actually pretty innovative with its mechanics & it had a surprisingly wholesome family orientated storyline, compared with the obvious diversity propaganda with the sequels.
Valiant Hearts was great, had people emotional and crying. It was well done puzzle game and very respectful to WWI soldiers.

These minority get drowned out by the DEI monster 99% of the time, but they are there and they release something good when they are able to get through, so we hold on hope for that 1%

Ubisoftification was an issue long before certain portions of the internet decided that 3 letter acronyms were the cause of every single wrongdoing with game development.

I agree with your other take though about a few of their teams discovering lightning in a bottle after some odd years.

say hello to ubi games

I'm gonna say nah to this.

Ubisoft games can be many things, but boring isn't really one of them. Cookie-cutter, full of filler, unoriginal, bloated? Sure. Boring? Never.

From Assassin's Creed, to The Division, to Far Cry, to Watch Dogs, these games provide hundreds of hours of fun. They're not top-tier in terms of quality in the industry. But they're great for that quick fix of middling to good fun in between the industry block-busters.

They're a guilty pleasure. The junk food of gaming.

Their games start fun but they become boring because their combat\stories are not good enough to engage you for 50+++ hours.

Valhalla was the poster child of what i'm saying.

Why do people say things like this now? Is this how yall really play games? Did you ever say that about Nathan Drake or any Gears character?
None of them have such a ridicolous takedown animation tho.

It's not even badass, just stupid.

Valhalla I agree with complete. Watch Dogs: Legion and Far Cry 6? --- Not at all!

Those games were mindless fun from start to finish, and WD: Legion was so addictive I didn't want it to end when it did. Legion I slept on for too long and only played it because it was free on PSN+, but holy smokes! The game was fire. One of the best Ubisoft games in a long long time. I originally wrote it off because I thought London was boring (I lived in London at the time) and the graphics weren't next-gen enough. I'd highly recommend that one to folks on here.

I don't think even big ol Cole Train could've taken down a guy with a helmet with a backhand slap. It's a ridiculous take down.

This game doesn't look all that bad, but that fist to the helmet is completely unrealistic. That being said, just give me Shadows of the Empire 2.

I didn't played legion, but fc6 bored me to tears after 15 hours or so.

Really?

You're smarter than this.

I mean would Naughty Dog do this? No. There is a lack of attention of detail here with the takedown. But some are acting like it's the one thing that confirmed to them this game will be trash. We've all looked pass some silly "gamey" stuff that happens in games. A quick roll of the eyes and move on is usually all we do.

You just answered your own question. ;)

I think one example is people who attempt to write for shows that carry heavy themes and the writing ends up sounding like dialogue from Charmed.
Characters always seem super smug and infinitely confident. The characters usually lack any depth, aside from attempting to look cool enough to help carry a garbage show. I'm looking at that shitshow Batgirl, for one.
I can only explain this as a lack of cocaine fueled all nighters and too many anti-depressants and therapy sessions. Back in the day the writers room was pushing shit out the day before they filmed and it was just all frantic. Now they write these things as if they were 10 hour movies and its drag drag drag. Obi-wan was just the greatest casualty, not the only one.
