Alone in the Dark Revival Potentially Being Teased by Prominent Leaker

The tease comes in the form of a single tweet, which reads: "Being afraid of the dark is what keeps most of us alive."
A simple Google search will tell you that that's a line from the 2005 Alone in the Dark movie, seemingly suggesting that an announcement related to the series is not far away.

Interestingly, the Alone in the Dark IP was acquired by THQ Nordic back in 2018, and the publisher has a digital showcase set for August 12
so it's possible that a revival of the survival horror series is announced there.
Whether that takes the form of a reboot, a remake, a sequel, or something else remains to be seen- assuming it's happening, of course.

If it was picked up by Nordic then they're absolutely gonna reboot AITD - and it'll be a solid 7/10.

AITD 1-3 are some of my favorite games of all time.
if Edward Carnby is again a modern dude in a leather jacket.. it's unlikely it will be the game I want from them.

Do it right, goddammit. Eldritch horror and exploration, not too much action.
I know it's not what the public wants, but we need a good-budget alternative to Resident Evil that doesn't try to ape RE too closely. The New Nightmare was a solid game.

same here, yet I have really fond memories of the series. the things I vividly remember about the last one I played, AITD 2008, were really impressive visuals and fire effects, great sound design, and unique mechanics [inventory management with actual pockets, real-time injuries and wounds and healing system, the gore system,...]
...and the score was remarkable
an otherwise great game that was held back by a lukewarm story and janky/clunky combat

2008 was one of my biggest purchasing regrets. I actually prefer the original series over anything modern AITD. I kinda hope they change my mind. I can't even remember the film.

Yes definitely ditch the modern generic leather-jacket action hero.

Edward Carnby should be a Victorian gent. What makes the IP interesting is the period setting and Cthulhu HP Lovecraft stylings.

Bring back Raynal. Actually no, let him focus on LBA3.

Edit: Guess that's on ice and they're instead rebooting the series. Oh well.

Watch this be another first person hide & seek game 🙄

The car escape scene was surely something, especially with dat soundtrack. I still remember the tension. And this was 2008.

I also liked exploring the map outside of the story. I played Inferno on PS3, which it seems to be the better version, and I enjoyed it.

aswome game

These twitter insiders are so fucking cringe. "Please give me attention, I havent had my fix yet today!"

To be fair this Snitch guy/girl has not been posting regularly as of late. To the point that everyone thought he'd be found out or something. Apparently not.

Besides, at least this insider is cryptic about it and makes us work for it. The other people are waaay more annoying with their "So I've heard on the grape vine that XYZ, but don't quote me, pinch of salt, subject to change, possibly maybe, not sure, could be" noncommittal bullshit.

Honestly, let it die, everything starting from the 360 era was atrocious (was so excited by the old reboot and, wow, I fell from high).
I have no more faith in this total wasted IP.

Nice, but if they're going to bring it back it needs to appeal to a modern audience, otherwise the series could be dead forever.

Make it open world.
Have modern weapons. I want to take out creatures of the night with full automatic weapons, chainsaws, tanks etc.
Insane number of enemies on screen at once. Let me now down thousands with a vulcan cannon.
Make it first person as well.

Basically, mix the original with GTA, Bloodborne, Doom and Days Gone and you'll have a winner.

This is the wrong one.

Really, the 2008 game was a sequel to the original. Believe it, or not!
I liked it. The PS3 version fixes up some of the bugs. Really, I will have to try the PC version. Someone might have modded it.

That game tried to do a million things at once and wasn't particularly good at any of them. I gave up on it about half way through.

I don't know. Alone in the Dark 2008 is kinda dark.
I am playing through it now. I an playing the fixed up PS3 version. It also has an extra boss.
There are so many variants of this game.

The only way to so this justice would to set it on some sort of future space structure which somehow looks like it was designed in the 1970s. And the story should be about a diverse cast which comes together because being alone in the dark is bad. It should also be a painfully obvious political allegory because that is intelligent.

If they could get Frederic Raynal on board that would give some hope to the project so it stays somewhat true to its roots.

Frederic was the brains behind Alone in the dark 1/2, little big adventure/twinsen's odyssey etc, dude is still working in the games industry.
