The New England Revolution has signed forward Geoffrey Castillion. The 23-year-old former Dutch youth international last played for NEC Nijmegen in the Dutch Eredivisie, appearing in nine games while on loan to the club from Ajax, scoring twice. Castillion, who will wear the No. 39 shirt, will be added to the Revs roster upon receipt of his P1 Visa and his International Transfer Certificate.
Geoffrey is a big, strong target forward with several years of experience in the Dutch first division, Revolution general manager Michael Burns said. He will add a different dynamic to our attack and also give us more options up front. Once he finalizes the immigration process, were looking forward to getting him right into training.
A native of Amsterdam, Castillion is a product of the famed Ajax Youth Academy and made his first team debut for the club under manager Frank De Boer in March 2011, coming on as a second half substitute against ADO Den Haag. He spent the 2011-12 Eredivisie on loan with RKC Waalwijk, scoring seven times in 33 games in all competitions while helping the club achieve a ninth place finish in the league in their first season after being promoted from the Eerste Divisie, which is the second division of Dutch soccer. Castillion went on loan again the following year, staying in the Eredivisie with Heracles Almelo. He scored four times in 33 appearances for the clubs first team while adding 13 goals in just 12 appearances for the Heracles reserves.
Castillion split his time last season between the Ajax reserves, who play in the Eerste Divisie, and NEC in the Eredivisie. He spent the first half of the season with Ajax, making six appearances with the reserves, scoring once before joining NEC on loan in January 2014. He scored twice in seven league appearances for NEC, debuting as a second half substitute on January 19 against ADO Den Haag, while also making a pair of substitute appearances for the club in the quarterfinals and the semifinals of the Dutch Cup.
In addition to his club career in the Netherlands, Castillion also represented the country internationally at the U-17, U-18 and U-19 levels. He was a member of the Dutch team that reached the semifinals of the 2008 UEFA Under-17 Championship, scoring two of the four goals that the Netherlands scored in the competition.

Hm hearing the land for stadium just south of YS is a done deal. Waiting on announcement. Stadium will be 100% privately financed.
Ouch, giving up on a career in Europe so soon is usually not a good sign. Wish him good luck in the states.
I wonder if Kraft secretly handed the team over to a new owner haha
The NYCFC supporter's club tweeted they're hearing a land deal is nearly finalized and the stadium would be 100% private:
Think that'd make everyone very happy.
This is supposedly the location:

Tight fit.
It should be fine
That would be 2000% better than the park they were looking at before.
It should be fine
That assumes they knock down a brand new parking garage that tax payers spent tens of millions on.
Had you heard of an MLS blind draw before?
Never heard of it. They could have made life easier for everyone by making it public, I guess. That [mechanism] would be like the NBA draft lottery being a blind draw. We have seen a lot of blind draws in U.S. soccer over the years with the Open Cup. They have made it more transparent, but there are still a lot of clouds there.
In the big picture, given your experiences trying to acquire Kljestan and what unfolded with Jones, does it trouble you that, here in Year 19, MLS is still using these peculiar mechanisms for player signings?
Its troubling for everyone. Everyone is involved in the process. There is no finger-pointing at any particular person because ownership is involved in all of this stuff. They allow it and they participate. This is all attributed to ownership; its not attributed to the commissioner or the people in that [New York] office. It may not be fully supported by ownership, but there is a participation level by ownership that says: This is the way we want to do things.
What were your impressions of the U.S. team at the World Cup?
It was great that they got through group play. I dont think there was anything on the playing side that you can point at that was really notable. The fight, the desire is there, the goalkeeping was excellent. The inability to pass with any kind of quality was a glaring weakness. Producing chances, having any kind of possession was really a knock against the team. They were poor in those areas. Having said that, they managed to get a win and a draw out of four games thats pretty remarkable. We are not in position to play against top teams. We can give it a good effort, a good fight.
In many ways, despite the stated ambitions, the characteristics of the U.S. team have remained the same over the years
I would argue maybe that isnt so. Our team in 2002 played pretty well.
Yesterday the US U18 Mens National Team defeated Ukraine for the Vaclav Jezek International Tournament title. The young Americans won 1-0 from a goal from hot shot U18 #10 Mukwelle Akale, who was later named the Tournaments Top Player.
Akale, whos with Spains Villarreal after signing a youth pre-contract, has been in superb form. Hes now won Top Player awards in two of Europes most competitive tournaments, the Vaclav Jezek and Copa del Atlantico in Spain earlier in 2014.
Reports were that tournament officials, reporters and scouts began calling the diminutive playmaker the American Messi to which Akale responded to reports just call me Kwelle.
Longtime soccer coach George Scarpelli doesnt hold back. Not when praising his boys team at Somerville High School. Not when talking about US Soccers academy system. Ever since the academy program switched to a 10-month schedule in the fall of 2012 and prohibited players from high school competition, Scarpelli has harbored concerns about the direction of youth development in Massachusetts and across the country.
Its a disgrace, said Scarpelli. Its a joke. What youre doing, ultimately, is looking to put together your 25 best players in the country and affecting millions of high school players.
Its an absolute travesty for the game itself. Theyre trying to make it an elitist sport where the focus is on the best.
Youre taking away from what high school student-athletes use as a big part of their total high school experience. As a former teacher and coach for 30 years, its disgusting.
On Monday sources revealed exclusively to ProSoccerTalk that U.S. international Geoff Cameron is edging closer to a move away from Premier League side Stoke City.
The versatile 29-year-old American is being chased by a whole host of PL sides, plus Italian giants Lazio.
Teams from England said to be in the hunt for Camerons signature include Sunderland, Hull City, Leicester City and Southampton, among others.
Stoke are apparently reluctant to sell Cameron, who has become a key component for the Potters over the last two seasons since he moved to England from Major League Soccer.
Union did an awesome thing last night for fans..The PPL camp out!
Gonna do this next year with the family. Watch a game, stick around and pitch a tent on the pitch while the kids play soccer.

Lion Bobby Wood was nominated by U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann for the Test International Match of the USA on September 3, 2014 in Prague against the Czech Republic.
Born in Hawaii Wood, who plays for TSV 1860 Munich since 2007, could come to his second senior international game for the North Americans. About a year ago, on 14 August 2013 he made his debut in the national team, as he at the 4: 3 was loaded in Bosnia-Herzegovina in the final minutes.
Wood flies to the home game of the lions against SV Darmstadt 98 (Sunday, August 31, kick-off 13.30 clock) directly from Munich to Prague. There, the U.S. team is together for one week. On Monday, September 8, the 21-year-old returns to the Bavarian capital.
Anyone else making it for the Champions League game tonight?
Been waiting five years for tonight. Hope Petke remembers that game against W Connection like the few of us who were there.

I'm surprised we haven't seen more roster leaks for this game given that it's coming up next Wednesday.

Glad I already have tickets to that game
Carson, California It was the end of a chapter in the U.S. Soccer annals on Saturday. U.S. U15 Boys National Team head coach Hugo Perez informed his players shortly after the end of the scrimmages that it was his final camp with the youth national team.
Yes, this is my last camp, Perez told TopDrawerSoccer. I dont know [what is next for me]; that is up to U.S. Soccer. Obviously, Im employed by them and whatever they do I am open to it. Its been an honor to work with these kids and an honor to get to know them.
LAS VEGAS The city of Las Vegas, The Cordish Companies and Findlay Sports & Entertainment announce a term sheet that outlines key deal points for bringing the first professional sports team to the downtown. The plan includes the construction of a state-of-the-art stadium designed specifically for Major League Soccer.
The new MLS stadium would be home to a Las Vegas-based MLS franchise and located in the city of Las Vegass expanding downtown Symphony Park area, north of the Smith Center for Performing Arts.
The new stadium will not move forward unless the Findlay-Cordish partnership is awarded an MLS team. The total project cost for the team and stadium including interest on bonds over the next 30 years is $410 million. Of this amount, 69 percent would be privately funded and 31 percent from public sources.
The Findlay-Cordish partnership will be responsible for all costs associated with the MLS team. For the stadium, compared with public revenue sources contributed, 59 percent of these project costs would be privately financed.
The stadium would accommodate up to 24,000 fans and include state-of-the-art concession and fan entertainment experiences. The venue would also be used for other community purposes and could host a variety of events.
The combination of the stadium and team is projected to total in excess of a $300 million investment in downtown Las Vegas. An independent analysis shows the stadium is estimated to generate more than $9 million in annual tax revenue for the state, county, city of Las Vegas and other local entities and is projected to generate more than 1,200 jobs, including 525 construction jobs and 700 permanent jobs.
The proposed deal does not rely on new tax revenues from local residents or businesses. Private involvement is significantly higher than most MLS stadium and team deals. Revenues used by the city to fund its portion of the city-owned stadium are primarily derived from projected taxes collected from tourists and from public infrastructure funds.
At its Sept. 3 meeting, the Las Vegas City Council will vote on a non-binding term sheet. Under the terms of the existing exclusive negotiating agreement between the city, Findlay Sports & Entertainment and The Cordish Companies, the approval of a non-binding term sheet is the next step toward securing an MLS team and constructing the stadium.
An open air stadium in Vegas would be great training for Qatar.
Great way to guarantee that I never go to a game there despite having family in Vegas and visiting at least once a year
