Yaro turning down contracts and Larin looking for an Eredivisie move would really open up the field for first pick.

Yeah this is very concerning as a Quakes fan given that they have the fourth pick. With Yaro staying at Georgetown there are four guys I'd want them to take (Larin, Roldan, Danladi, Stolz), and if Larin goes to Europe that means it's possible they wouldn't get any of them...

Lampard, a high profile international star, was designed to be the signature piece of a new club launching in New York City.

If you didn't closely watch MLS last year you probably don't know who Cubo Torres is.

"Neutral" MLS fans will be more worried of being seen (correctly) as second fiddle to the EPL and the Lampard drama.

the Lampard and Cubo situations don't bother me much as a "neutral". It seems like kind of a shitty precedent, especially Lampard's case, but he is heavily contributing for the defending champs of the highest profile league in the world so it does make sense why the plans changed, especially since both clubs are owned by the same person.

From all I've read it sounded like everyone including Houston had the chance to pony up money to sign Cubo without this loan spell included, but no one spent the money required for anything other than what Houston got Regardless of the how inflated the asking price was, you get what you pay for

I have bigger issues with a lot of other things the league has done in the past 3-4 years with regards to making up the rules on the fly for player acquisitions than these two circumstances.

A Jersey Boy Finds a Job in Iceland

never heard of these before...
while at Bradford, Spivack learned about the Richmond International Academic & Soccer Academy (RIASA), where aspiring footballers could earn American undergraduate degrees while playing and gaining exposure in England.

In November 2013, Spivack returned stateside to take part in a series of SoccerViza combines. Held throughout the country, these events gave Spivack and the other players in attendance the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of representatives from European and American clubs.
...
Joe Funicello, SoccerViza’s founder and CEO, had encouraged Spivack to attend the combines while he was still in Finland. Funicello started the company after pursuing his soccer career, a journey that also took him from New Jersey and across Europe, from England to Iceland, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, and Italy. He started SoccerViza in 2012 to help people like himself: American players who had the will to keep going but no visible path to a pro contract.

TDS: 2015 MLS Draft: Big Board v 2.0

In the second edition of the Big Board, a number of players have been culled for either signing homegrown deals (Sean Davis, Patrick Doody) or players TDS expects or already have announced that they will stay in school in 2015 (Joshua Yaro, Abu Danladi). The Generation adidas class is expected to be small, and it will change for future updates.

Rank Player School
1 F Cyle Larin* Connecticut
2 M Cristian Roldan* Washington
3 M Leo Stolz UCLA
4 M Nick Besler Notre Dame
5 M Dan Metzger Maryland
6 F Khiry Shelton Oregon State
7 F Robert Kristo Saint Louis
8 D Boyd Okwuonu North Carolina
9 M Omar Holness* North Carolina
10 M Eric Bird Virginia
11 GK Alex Bono* Syracuse
12 D Oumar Ballo UMBC
13 M Fatai Alashe Michigan State
14 D Otis Earle UC Riverside
15 D Andy Thoma Washington
16 F Andy Craven North Carolina
17 GK Andrew Wolverton Penn State
18 M Seth Casiple California
19 GK Tyler Miller Northwestern
20 D Saad Abdul-Salaam Akron

Danladi staying in school would be a real bummer...

Another decent player skipping the superdraft, which really isn't looking like it will be very "super" right now.

A few extra tidbits from that article; Joshua Yaro would have made himself available for the draft if MLS had offered a better contract, Cristian Roldan and Cyle Larin are in ongoing negotiations but look unlikely to be involved and Axel Sjoberg has offers from abroad but hasn't received any contact from MLS.

Young Designated Player?

Is that a hint at an increase in DP slots?

No, the Young DP designation has been around for a few years now. His new teammate Laba is one as well. Fabian Castillo was one for a year due to his transfer fee but isn't anymore just based on his salary. Others include Alex Lopez and Mauro Diaz...
Basically it's an incentive for teams to sign and develop younger players.

Designated Players over the age of 23 will carry a salary budget charge of $350,000, unless the player joins his club in the middle of the season, in which case his budget charge will be $175,000.
Designated Players 21–23 years old count as $200,000 against the club’s salary budget.
Designated Players 20 years old or younger count as $150,000 against the club’s salary budget.
The budget charge for the midseason signing of a young Designated Player (23 years old and younger) is $150,000 and this amount cannot be lowered with allocation funds.
Clubs will not have to buy the third DP roster slot to accommodate Designated Players 23 years old and younger.
Age of player is determined by year (not date) of birth.

Tim Howard was asked to comment on US players returning to MLS from top European leagues yesterday:

“Too many U.S. players do that. When the going gets tough, the manager changes, they get taken out of the team and they hit a low. The first instinct is to go back to America. That is why most U.S. players fail. I was always going to make it here.”

He's 100% correct. His comments seem directly applicable to Bradley, who should not have left Italy when he did. A huge step backward for him.

A year later, David Beckham’s dream of soccer stadium in Miami still not a reality

The Miami Beckham United organization, which at first said it would take three months to weigh its remaining options, says it’s still hunting for a stadium location, though quietly this time, with private property owners. After being denied twice, the group appears reluctant to openly discuss a new one until a deal — assuming one can be reached — is firmly in place.

“We have made very meaningful strides in the last couple of months,” John Alschuler, Beckham’s real estate adviser and lead negotiator, said in an email to the Miami Herald. “While nothing in this complex equation can be taken for granted, I am optimistic that there will be several positive announcements in the first quarter of the next year.”

Bradley was making just over $1m at Roma. He's making ~6x that ($6.5m) at Toronto. He's got a wife and 2 kids who are closer to home and family. He's 27 playing a sport where you don't ever know how long you have. I'm having a hard time fathoming anyone not taking that deal in his position.
