Nintendo should just send out extra shipments of all already released figures to stores stealthily, so that way no scalpers can get to them any faster than we can...

...of course, that won't happen. But one can dream.

Considering there are scalpers who somehow know immediately when boxes are going out...

No offense, but you're underestimating scalpers. Keep in mind that for many of them, screwing us over is their full-time, adult job.

Why can't I leisurely walk into a store and buy the amiibos that I want?

because then Amiibos wouldn't be as big of a hit as they are.
I seriously believe that if these things weren't absurdly rare, not as many people would be buying them, and they wouldn't have been as popular as they are

I think part of it is that some are rare, but the "mania" is mostly speculative. Toy scalpers, for whatever reason, now have their sights (and sites) set on Amiibo. There is a rareness to them, for sure, but the perceived shortage/rareness has people buying them up whenever they see them, so it creates a run.

Of course, I'm not absolving Nintendo of responsibility. NoA should have an online storefront like other regions, and they could better control the sale and distribution of these things. They sure could be doing a better job--after three waves!--of registering demand.

Wave 4 is either going to be easy as pie, or a nightmare.

Because then shelf space would become a major issue with stores if every ammibo was readily available whether people like it or not certain figures have to be limited its just how it is.

I don't care for Skylanders... take up a ton of shelf space too. Why there gotta be like 4-5 of 50 different models at every Target, BestBuy and TRU?? Amiibos for lyfe!

smash has a huge fanbase x Nintendo has audiences from kids to adults, im pretty sure it would sell about the same, gold mario would be laughed at if it weren't exclusive , it already is :P

yeah was gonna wait in line at nintendo store but i did it last time they had rosalina and it was sold out before i got to the register.

this amiibo thing has been exhausting. my biggest fear is bowser jr and all the koopalings being exclusives to different stores.

They had plenty. Line wasn't that bad if you got there ~ 8am. Got out by 9:40am. They had tons of them all. They also said they would be getting Lucario back in stock at some point. Which is awesome.

Funny you bring up skylanders but just like with amiibo certain skylanders only get there initial shipment and then that figure is no longer available for purchase. Honestly until we start getting amiibos that are exclusive to events like E3 you have no idea what kind of crazy the toys to life figures can make people hell the e3 2012 chrome spyro is still about $200 off ebay if ya want one lol. Atleast nintendo hasnt charged $20-$25 dollars for a single level in a game yet cause activision pulled that bull crap with the first skylanders where u payed $80-$100 retail price for 4 extra levels int he first skylanders game >.<

...is it like actual metal or just painted chrome?

I agree. And since people everywhere are buying, now's the time to make more available and watch the money pile up as people complete their collections.

I agree to a certain extent. At this point it doesn't matter anymore due to the popularity that surrounds it now. If they were to reissue all the rare amiibos and release the next upcoming waves in significant quantity, I don't think the popularity would drop at all. All it would do is get rid of the scalpers at this point.

There are people getting fed up and willing to quit, I believe if the rares were made readily available then plenty of people would give it some more thought and probably try to collect them all. I know I would. I spent 3 hours in the store waiting for MegaMan yesterday but I only did it for that character and I don't plan to do it again.

I feel as though I've come too far to turn back at this point, I've bought 10 amiibos in the past week...and may end up having to pay for all of Wave 4 all at once, which is why I'm hoping it doesn't go up for preorder until next Friday so I can get another paycheck in the bank first...

I just hate that I'm probably going to have to buy from scalpers for the majority of the ones I've missed. I preordered an extra Gold Mario for future trade, but that's just one when I need so many that I missed.

Same here. As of this morning i have every amiibo released. Thats 29 out of (presumably) 50. My dumb brain cant switch off when i tell it..hey you got all of wave 1,2 and 3, time to pack it up.

Yeah, it's the same for me too. The Smash line just begs to be complete, and I love ALL the characters. It would be extremely difficult for me to give up on it, but I feel like I was really lucky throughout the first three waves. It just seems like my luck will run out soon. :(

It's crazy that Mega Man and Sonic are as rare as they are. These two are amongst the most recognizable video game characters of all time. They should be way more common than they are.

Couldn't agree more. I know Megaman has fallen into obscurity for the last few years, but damn if people don't remember him...and everybody freaking knows Sonic! Even if most in the know think he's a joke at this point, the character is as recognizable as Nintendo's best.

Then there's PacMan...now I can't even imagine what insanity a Solid Snake amiibo would've done.

I really don't understand this insatiable need that some people have to get all of them. Especially with how much trouble it is to obtain some of them.

I remember launch day back in November. I just strolled into Nintendo World, no lines or anything and they were all sitting on the shelf, including the so-called "rares" and "holy trinity". I bought Mario, Peach and DK that day. Had no desire for WFT, Villager or Marth, and I still don't. I remember Pit, too sitting on the shelves there for weeks everytime I stopped in. I don't regret not getting any of them when I easily could either.

It seems to me that this madness all started when that rumor came out that Nintendo said something along the lines of some amiibos won't be printed as much as others. It all blew up then, or at least that's how it seems.

Whats hard to understand? People want a complete set.
At this point, for me, they are not difficult to obtain. I am paying more for them via resellers on Amazon but the price Im paying doesnt offend me.

I wanted to get all of them but slowly. Impulse buying them one by one. Then I had 2 weeks off from my job. I had heard that the holy trinity was hard to find, but I was very "eh" about it. I was coming from a job interview and happened to see a Walmart, and with nothing to do thought "Why not see if they have any of those rares people talk about?" Found a TON of Wii Fit Trainer there. Had like 8 of them. No one had bought any. I said screw it, and bought it. But then I had nothing to do, so I wound up reading about them on GAF. The hunt occupied me during my vacation. I wound up driving an hour north twice on a whim to find Marth/Villager. I spent days just driving around to stores to get out of my apartment. I don't know how, but in 2 weeks I had everything either bought or preordered that I could. I had never even imported before, but there I was importing 2 of the hard to find ones. Didn't even feel like 2 weeks to me, felt like a lot longer.

And I had left Villager sitting on the shelf in Meijer for a couple weeks before that.

Then there's PacMan...now I can't even imagine what insanity a Solid Snake amiibo would've done.

I'd be interested in knowing what that would look like. Would his face be like a bad Marth?

Couldn't agree more. I know Megaman has fallen into obscurity for the last few years, but damn if people don't remember him...and everybody freaking knows Sonic! Even if most in the know think he's a joke at this point, the character is as recognizable as Nintendo's best.

I do wonder what kind of limits Capcom, Sega and Namco are putting on these figures and if they're hard to find because of those limits.

I play one game, critical path it. Friend plays the same game, he's gotta open all unlockables. All good, diff'rent strokes and all that. I'll never understand him as well, just a collector's mentality, all good.

Ironically, if they were all available so easily, I'd probably consider getting them all. Then think about how that can probably buy me a PS4, controller, and a few games.

Nuts to me you can get sheik out in the wild no problem and sonic is hard to find. Way more people know sonic then sheik. Shit I don't even know what sheik is from. Did get mega man from gamestop shipped a few days ago but this fuckin Colorado snow is slowing all shipments down.

You are exactly right. I had all my preorders in for wave 3 before that article about discontinued figures. Everything has been crazy since.

When I was at my local GS picking up my Mega Man and Sonic preorders, they had plenty of Mega Mans available.

It's crazy that Mega Man and Sonic are as rare as they are. These two are amongst the most recognizable video game characters of all time. They should be way more common than they are.

I still believe Mega Man to be common and Sonic to be uncommon, once things settle down and scalpers realize they are buying tons of them for naught.

Still looking to trade my sonic or Ike for meta knight, villager, falcon or wft if anybody is interested, shoot me a pm.

And I'm looking to trade my peach for villager straight up...

Love this! Haha

Some people are toy collectors and may want a complete set on those grounds, even intending to keep them mint in box.

Though a lot of people just have a wide taste in Nintendo characters. The apparent "Amiibo madness" is actually the result of Nintendo's ridiculous ideas about which characters are popular. When 90% of the of characters in the Smash series are very difficult to find, an awful lot of ordinary people are going to be frustrated.

I know a lot of fans who want a decent variety of Amiibos because they really do want to play with them in Smash. And so they are forced to watch the stores and websites, to acquire anything other than one of Nintendo's handful of over-exposed star characters.

Sheik was no where to be seen the first two weeks and now she's everywhere.

I know if they were in stores down the street tomorrow and I had no trouble finding them, I'd grab Meta Knight, Shulk, Lucario, Dedede, Sonic, Captain Falcon, Little Mac, Wii Fit Trainer, Ike, Marth, and maybe Villager. There's another $140 to $150, Nintendo. Now multiply that by THOUSANDS.

Painted for $200 bucks? Crazy people.

Then again, I contemplated putting down almost $300 for that Awakening soundtrack just because it had Lucina on the cover...
I decided against it of course

sadly that not the most expensive one lol

http://blog.pricecharting.com/2012/05/stevesesy-10-rarest-skylander-figures.html

that article will make people feel better about the prices of some amiibo figures and yes people actually paid these prices jsut to get a complete collection.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

it was a game for a system called the Nintendo 64 that's been rereleased on the GameCube, Wii and 3DS

Damn I'm tempted to drive over to the city to pick them up. Is there a line?

Nah there was a line earlier today though but things have calmed down i guess people went there initially to grab them quick and go on with their daily obligations.

And yeah i do believe King Dedede is still in stock , either ike is more popular is hes the least produced out of the bunch.

It's strange because you would think that Lucario would be made to be more common than Samus based on their franchises.
