I was mostly interested in getting nice looking cheap figures of beloved characters. I dont want to collect cards, but people will go hard for those too.

That's just it. I'd rather buy one really expensive, well made, geeky statue of like a comic book hero instead of 50 Amiibos. Not putting them down, I just don't think I can get into them. I'll totally buy the Amiibo cards when they come out however. For the gameplay enhancements of the defunct GBA card reader brought back to life!!
Some people like having figures of their favorite characters. What's not to understand?

But it's not about having one Amiibo. It's how awesome they look when all displayed together! And luckily they're just cheap enough to encourage collecting.

That's fair. I'm on the opposite end. I can't justify spending $50 for a Nendoroid (and that's MSRP) when I can buy 4 amiibos for that price. I guess I have tempered expectation for quality in comparison to price and I prefer the variety in my displays.

No. I'm even happy with the cheaper jakks pacific nintendo toys, but you can't find those in stock anywhere either.

Personally I think the Amiibos have a nice mix of build quality and price.
I would be twice as selective with which ones I bought, but I would still buy some. The price is definitely a factor which affects what I buy. Amiibos are convenient because they are cheap.
Edit: Misread question. I would only pay for twice the build quality if one I wanted was really ugly.
Sure. I would still try to collect them all For the Smash line.

Hell no. The money spent on these already adds up really fast with the current cheap price.
Hell no, then they'd be $50 here. It's already a stretch to buy them at $25.

I'd own a couple. It would more than halve my purchases. Pushing them out of impulse buy territory would have stopped me from buying a wft on amazon at just about the last possible moment, and would have probably stopped the random purchases that got me little mac and captain falcon online when I just happened to be wasting my life at the pc at the right moment. I probably wouldn't own fox or any of the three that just went on sale everywhere. etc.
Psychology is a bitch and marketers know that, i guess.

"Gameplay enhancements?" Pffft. Amiibos are worthless for that. I just buy them to look at them. They're so well crafted... Their ingame uses? Not so much.
Sure. I already own a good portion of the Nintendo Figmas/Nendos/Figuarts anyways. I'd gladly spend even more on a nice scale figure.
But the thing is, characters like Shulk are never going to get another piece of merchandise ever. I'd love to be proven wrong but chances are he's never even going to get a cheap plastic phone strap made of him unless Xenoblade suddenly takes off and becomes super popular (praying for the 3DS version to do Fire Emblem Awakening numbers in Japan since that seemed to work for the merchandising aspect haha). So Amiibos are really a godsend in this regard in that even super niche characters can get nice little pieces of merch.
But then again I've really only been picking up Amiibos for characters I really like so doubling the price probably wouldn't affect the amount I buy all that much

Well gamestop came through after delaying my pre-order. Mega Man, Ike, and Sonic all came in the mail today!

I'm hoping that I get lucky and find these in stores. The only ones I'm worried about are MK and Ike. Here hopes my streak continues without having to import. I've learned that I just need patience, but I will be sure to pre-order wave 4.

I'll admit, there are a few Amiibos I like. The Kirby one looks cool for example. I'm less of a fan of the ones that have clear stilts and such. The Super Mario Amiibo line looks better to me.

Yep, definitely. I might not buy as many of them but my satisfaction with the ones I do buy would more than make up for it.

No, not me. I want them because they're fun, relatively inexpensive, officially-made nostalgia pieces I can look at and remind of some fun times. As someone who grew up on Nintendo, but far from a superfan (so I wouldn't spend hundreds on a figure), having a little figure of Duck Hunt Duo, Toon Link, Captain Falcon and Mr Game and Watch is perfect for me. I'm not a figure guy necessarily, I just want little mementos.
Could not care less about the functionality as they have them now, so don't care for that either.
Hell, I'd pay LESS to have the figures as they are and no functionality, for the more obscure ones especially. I know I can find tiny Mario figures everywhere. Not necessarily for ROB or Dr. Mario though.

After getting my wave 3 completed today, I couldn't resist taking a family photo.
Everyone except for Little Mac, who thanks to a friend I have coming this week! It has been a ridiculous journey, but I'm incredibly happy and relieved to have finally made it to this point. Definitely wouldn't have been able to do it if it wasn't for the very kind people here on GAF, and some thoughtful friends in real life.
Don't worry, I'll be setting them free eventually. I just need to find the best way, and place, to display them first.
Anyway, here's to Wave 4 coming soon!

If it was ever up with Amazon as the seller at all, it sold out so fast no human managed to buy it. Apparently people have bots buying amiibo as soon as they go up now though? At least that's what NowInStock comments are saying... :\

I had all 6 in my cart, but due to like a 15 minute initial registration debacle, they were all sold out (excluding Wario) by the time I was finally registered...
I'm pretty close to exiting the Amiibo game.
They did, lasted like 5 minutes.
Wow. That's just great lol. I should ask a friend if he's interested in ordering via AmiAmi so we can split shipping costs... If they ever have it up again.
