Amiibo Thread 5 | Because we didn't preorder thread 4

Been snowing/icing on and off in TN the last week+ and I haven't gotten mail since probably the 16th. My UK Ike and my MM and Sonic from target have ben sitting in limbo.

Yay, looks like Mega Man will arrive today. Maybe he'll be here by the time I get back from class. Now I just hope the weather doesn't do anything to the package considering my mailbox got run over by my grandma a few days ago, so our mail will probably be put near between our doors.

really dead amiibo activity in the usa past couple days... is it a calm before the storm?

Well, we've gotten through all the Wave 3 retail releases except GameStop's tomorrow, so that would be why. As far as future releases, we only have March 20 to plan for the Super Mario line's release, and I think a lot of people here preordered what they wanted from that, so there's not much discussion needed about that.

We need Wave 4 preorders to liven up the thread =P

There are still tons of people who need various wave 3s, not to mention earlier. For myself I still need a meta knight, and am bummed that bestbuy hasn't restocked... but that's the story with almost every amiibo except for the most common ones, the severely constrained stock is so exhausting

I honestly thought meta knight would be the easiest exclusive to get because he doesn't have the same devoted following that the others do. That really should be the case... if supply were a bit healthier.

And now we are reading that Nintendo is actually slashing MSPRs on some commons -- not discounts, legit MSRP reductions. It's a shame to see this happening when other amiibo are being underproduced.

Official prices on some amiibo now show 9.99 on this page when you click a figure

Here is a question: would you pay twice as much for twice the build quality on the Amiibos?
Build quality isn't linearly proportional to cost.
Yeah I was gonna say.

The deluxe Giants/Swap Force/Trap Team Skylanders figures are a tad more detailed and quite a bit larger than the standard ones (some have light-up bits, even!), and those only come at a $2-3 premium. The packaging and NFC chips are a sizable part of the cost built into these things, and slightly larger figures don't add much, if anything, to that part of the equation.

So to answer your question through the lens of reality, yes, I'd happily pay $15 rather than $13 for larger/better figures.

So the target.com amiibo listings have shrunk and now the Ike listing has been removed completely.

Nintendo, pls.

From what they told me, if you preordered before December 26th, you'll get yours this week. If you preordered after (or didn't at all), it's going to be a few weeks. I forget the exact estimate though.
I heard that was only for Dedede and Ike. I pre-ordered Mega Man after Dec. 26th.

Yeah at this point I'm pretty much done with amiibos. Not being able to get Megaman because he is literally nowhere is so ridiculous.

Saw another gold mario walmart poster sighting at reddit. It's really happening isn't it? I just wish they would say something or list it.

I can't even import from Japan anymore cuz they keep selling out preorders when i'm asleep. this is such bullshit. goddamn people, calm the fuck down so I can just get my preorders in, lol

I thought people in this thread might be interested in this comment about Amiibo profitability by Iwata from the investor's Q&A (I also posted this in that thread):

Iwata said:
Finally, regarding your question about amiibo’s profitability, we have been selling amiibo at the same MSRP so that consumers will easily understand its price point. However, I think you can easily tell just by looking at several amiibo figures that production costs vary for each one of them; some amiibo have a more complex structure and a greater number of colors, which means they cost more to produce than others. Nevertheless, since setting different price points could be misinterpreted as the company valuing certain characters more than others, we came to the decision to set an MSRP that would return a profit from the amiibo platform as a whole.
This is a topic that has interested me since these were first shown off at last year's E3. The figures clearly differ in size/weight, construction complexity (number of pieces), and paint complexity and thus clearly have different production costs. This is extremely obvious if you handle a few of the figures at once. With other action figures, this is sometimes balanced out with accessories, but Amiibos are stand-alone statues.

I had previously guessed that the production cost were sufficiently low relative to their wholesale price (not to mention other variable cost factors such as packaging and shipping), but it is interesting to see Iwata mention this in the Q&A in this specific way. The phrase "as a whole" implies that not every Amiibo model is profitable individually, which is kind of shocking. This could definitely have something to do with the varying production quantities for the different figures and their corresponding shortages.
