Amiibo Thread 5 | Because we didn't preorder thread 4

Yeah that's what I'm referring to. Pre-orders for a ton of figures dried up quickly for wave 2 and 3. I'm not referencing wave 1 at all.

Hm, I don't know, like I said, I remember them being up for awhile. I was able to pre-order all of the figured I wanted with little issue, and I could've pre-ordered any of them at any given time from various retailers (barring retailer exclusives). I know the pre-orders didn't stay up all the way to actual release like a normal product, but I really don't recall the pre-order process for wave 2 and 3 being all that bad. It's why I was pretty optimistic about getting pre-orders in for wave 4 until this with the Gold Mario.

first post. just want to say im so happy to have finally joined neogaf.
i started collecting amiibos thinking its gonna be esy have a collection of my beloved nintendo characters but this is getting tiring.

every time i said im done. i look at the rest of the characters they will eventually make and then im back in.

the scarry thing is what if they start a zelda line or a mario kart or animal crossing or pokemon.

Well I know for me personally, I'm not going to try and collect anymore complete sets. If I hear that a certain amiibo may be more rare I might try to get it or if I just really like the character but I'm done with the madness. Not sure I'm even going to finish the smash line entirely.

My good luck was going to run out eventually and I rather miss out on a Gold Mario than Ness, Lucina and Robin. If anyone did order a extra and want to sell it, pm me lol.

Walmart PR people were responding to customers from Nintendo's original tweet:

@... We are sorry! Please stay tuned for more product availability. You can also check with your local store manager. -Pia

Maybe they will go back up. Might not hurt to go and check at Walmart to see what they say if you missed out.

Seems like a canned response for anything mentioning 'amiibo'

@Walmart Soooo...what happened to "no, there will be no Gold Mario amiibo pre-order"?

@ Thanks for your question. Please stayed tuned for updates on product availability. You can also speak to the store manager. -Pia

Yeah most of wave 3 was available for a good while. Weeks in some cases. But it's a different game now. amiibo fever has caught on. Scalpers know there is easy money to be made and collectors know these will be hard to get. Wave 4 went extremely quickly in the places they were up in Europe. In some cases in minutes.

I really don't expect wave 4 preorders to be up very long at all.

Looks like I missed out on the preorder due to work, but I think I could honestly live without this alternate paint job anyway. I still think it's funny that the place with the worst Amiibo selection has a store exclusive.

Being an NYC-amiigo, you can guess that I was pretty upset when I missed the first wave of the Gold Mario amiibo. Thankfully, I got a pre-order in when it went back up the second time. Had the initial wave been the only one, I would've had to make the trek out to New Jersey to camp out on release or find myself at the mercy of the Nintendo World Store, if/when they ever receive it.

I missed the second order of gold mario and I'm now refreshing the walmart page every chance I get with my free time. What am I doing lol. I don't need it. I don't need it at all...okay just maybe lol.

This was always my wonder. Why the freak would Walmart get ANYTHING amiibo when their in-store options are the absolute worst?

For those who ordered Amiibos from Wal Mart USA's website before.

My order is currently in the "processing" phase. Does it just stay there until it charges and ships?

I never have but Gold Mario left me no choice...

Yeah, a lot of pre-orders got randomly marked down about a month back, and that's how they do it. If, for whatever reason, you decide to cancel, you can without any issue.

My walmart doesnt even have a section... they are all hanging behind 3DS cases and PS+ Membership cards... and it's like a peach and a pikachu

Yep. I preordered Pit from there, and it came without any issues. You are good.

I stay out of the thread for a few days and miss Gold Mario pre-orders. meh I feel like I just saved myself $12 in the long run since I'm not feeling that overwhelming pain of missing out like I did when Rosalina was up at like 2am.

the gold does nothing for me, but hey, if it's rare it's going to be well worth the $12.99 + tax (shipping was free, at least it was for me)

i'll probably try to get the silver too. hope it's an amazon exclusive this time.

And here I thought nobody really wanted Gold Mario, I guess that's just me. Sucks that it's another exclusives but congrats to everyone who managed to get 1. :P

Still holding my breath, and money, for Wave 4 pre-orders to open!

I wonder if Nintendo recognizes that they are building fervor in a small subset while alienating a larger group with these Amiibo shenanigans? They get nothing from the markups.

Of course they know.

The wiiu has sold like shit so Nintendo is squeezing more money from their shrinking fan base while it makes their brand look hot.

You don't really see a similar constant frenzy around MS or Sony products even though they've sold far more consoles already.

Missed out on Gold Mario while in class, but whatever. I managed to find a Donkey Kong in the wild when I went to go pick up my copies of Funky Barn and Tank! Tank! Tank! today. That damn ape had eluded me for far too long!

Welcome to the family family, DK.

Just like I predicted last time folks. It will be up at least 1 more time either tomorrow or during the weekend.

I've been called an amiibo prophet by some.
But by others, I'm just a man that likes plastic toys

If i didnt wake up to do a trade meetup with kitchenmotors I would have missed gold Mario. Worked out well, thanks AmiiboGaf, Line and kitchenmotors.

I woke up after 15 minutes of gold mario being up, wanted to test to see if I could still buy it and couldn't. We are fucked for wave 4. Scalpers and everyone buying atleast 2 for trades ( holding histage until they get what they want) means they will sell out just as fast
People can buy what they want but this whole buying 2 out of something being rare and using it for trade bait is just saddening for those who want 1. (Im smash bros amiibo only)

I guess in reality, I don't care about the Gold Mario. It's Wal Mart, and honestly, I went through agitation just to get the Smash Bros. Line. I really don't want to encourage this store exclusive bullshit.

It just would've been nice to have is all I suppose.

Yup. Everyone who does this (and judging by this thread there's A LOT) are part of the problem

Those all up in arms about Gold Mario, you DO realize that there will likely be some made available in stores, right? All you need to do is stop in at midnight on the 20th (or probably a few hours before, just in case there's a waiting list) and you're golden (pun not intended).

Although that's certainly a problem, it's understandable considering the desperation that many folks have been driven to.

Personally, I intend to order Lucina, Robin, and Ness from every place that offers preorders -- in case one or more of them gets delayed or canceled. It sucks, but quite frankly it's the best way to guarantee getting the product you're looking for.

I hope after the mario party and rest of smash Amiibo they slow down with the realses, like 1-2 per game. This is getting crazy.

I order two of each if possible.
It's the unfortunate reality of the amiibo situation. The only way to get these very rare amiibo is to trade the amiibo that are just as rare, which we won't know those that are classified as such until a few days after release, at least

It's a harsh business

Guilty, your Honor!

Same. It does suck for the people that missed out, I was almost one of them, but if I didn't grab two, somebody else would have. I would guess that most people that ordered, grabbed two. If Walmart was that limited with stock they should have made it just one.

Hopefully they cancel people with multiples ordered exceeding 2.

Ordering 2 and having 1 for trade is a problem?

I don't so, we are trading Amiibos. Just like other hobbies (comics, baseball cards etc)

I'm in this because i love the figures and love using them in Smash. I don;t want money, i want Amiibos. I have had people offer me money for some of the extras i have (i have only a few but still some) and i refuse, i tell them, I am looking for XXXX and if you can get him to trade with me you can have my YYYYY

I have sold a few on here at asking price (sold a Little Mac and Diddy for 25 for both) so, as long as we aren't expecting to turn a "profit" (which i'm not) there is nothing wrong with getting a few extras.

Nintendo will give us the Amiibos we want.. it will happen. Patience.

No its not the only way, you could buy them direct from the secondary market at a premium or wait for a restock.By buying multiple people are drying up the supply at a susbtantially higher rate leaving a big number customers who wanted the product stranded with nothing.

I was well aware that Rosalina was gonna be rare but i only purchassesd one since thats all i need,i rather another person get the chance of owning it.

Anyone pick up Rosalina? I mean actually pick her up? I did that today to scan her in Hyrule Warriors and noticed her neck is really flimsy. Surprised Nintendo didn't give her a dark brown plastic neck brace or something stupid like that.
