Nothing from Gamestop unfortunately-however they said the Amiibos should be released in April (mostly to tie in to Steam) but they haven't gotten any warnings about preorders, which is putting alot of people on edge. The girl I talked to who worked there said she was just going to camp with some coworkers for the Gold Mario 3 hours before the store opens.

Maybe they were sent to the stores in a distro because of damaged packaging? Probably not likely, but I wonder if they're showing up in multiple stores.

A mother and her two boys were in front of me in line and traded in those amiibo and a bunch of Disney Infinity figures to get a few games. I felt bad that they just traded them in.

I admire this Walmart in being knowledgeable of the issue and putting something like this up now. Too bad corporate didn't just let them take preorders in the store and not bother with first come first served. Can you imagine how bad its could/going to be?
I was about to cry but then I see it's the gold mario edition. I thought it was the regular edition, phew.
Edit: Having only around 6 figures pretty much tell us that march 20 is going to be like Rosalina day... if not worse. Yup, actually worse. You literally will need to camp like Apple fans do when a new iPhone releases if you want a gold mario without preorder. SIGHHHHHH. tHANK NintENDO.

It's a business decision, Walmart is one of the biggest retailers on Earth. Regardless of their store's (lack of) quality, they're probably doing really well for Nintendo.
Same with the n3DS, the XL outsells the standard size by a considerable margin, they wanted to minimize confusion, manufacturing costs, shipping costs, and maximize profit vs. shelf space.
Let's keep in mind that Nintendo makes a lot of pro-consumer decisions like, just off the top of my head, being the only current gen system that offers full backwards compatibility with all games, controllers and accessories. The other two consoles offer no backwards compatibility and charge you 50+ apiece for new controllers that are effectively the exact same as their last gen counterparts just because they can.
If Nintendo is trying to screw people over, they're doing a really terrible job of it.

March 20th is going to suck.
I have all SMB Wave 1 pre-ordered with EB Games, along with the Mario bundle, and then Gold Mario will be in store at Wal Mart.
I am hoping I can get Gold Mario when they open at 7am, and then get to EB Games before they open at 9am (right after Wal Mart, so hopefully by 8am so I can be first in line) for the others so I can pick another if the box or figure is in poor condition.
It begins again next Friday!

I'm pretty sure they're going to a non 24 hour one but if you are doing a 24 hour one I hear that they dont do restocks of merch until 12:30AM OR 10:30 PM (in my area at least) so you'd have to start the hunt around 9:00PM or see if an employee is kind enough to let you know when to come in. Thats a weird one to be honest I would hope those Walmarts are the ones that aren't getting exempted from the Gold Mario.
This whole fiasco is starting to seem like the Rosalina saga ;__; Small preorder windows, camping for 2-3 hours before stores open ewwww.

Ike is annoying and since everyone didn't want to chance it like Marth, they just preordered them. C Falcon is sort of on the same level as Ike (I havent seen him in the wild). Expect all the FE characters to get lower runs than other characters is what I'm expecting unfortunately. But hey, if you can, preorder them from GS and have a back up one at one other retailer you trust just in case. I had back-ups in other places and when some of my preorders came in, I just cancelled my other one or let their timers run out (i.e. my backup order on Ike at TRU)

Pretty sure Mario Party would've sold fine without amiibo. The series has always been successful no matter what system it was on.
I used to share a Black Wii U with my ex but ever since we split I haven't really wanted to buy another Wii U (I put in half of my money into it QQ). If I buy a new one, I'll probably buy it when I move into my new place and only buy certain games for it. Mario Party, Pokken if it comes out for it, Splatoon, Smash, Hyrule Warriors and maaaayyybbbeee Fatal Frame 5 if it comes to US Wii U's but I'll end up having nightmares I think. Oh and probably Bayonetta 2 :3

So I haven't been following this too closely... my kid brother just moved to Burbank to pursue his dream of being a professional animator and I wanted to get him one of the hard to find Amiibo's he's been looking for as a going away gift... He really wants Captain Falcon, Pit or Fox, I think Little Mac and Dedede are in the running too. They're all on Amazon for scalper prices, but is there anywhere else they've been popping up reliably? Thanks in advance.

Thanks so much for the offer, I don't have any I'm looking to trade though and I opened all of mine too. I lucked into finding a Villager before the stuff hit the fan and I got a scalped Marth from a family member for my Birthday last year, but I like playing with them too much.

Now that I remember (I don't know why I didn't even think of this), I know a guy who owns an independent store and they receive Amiibos straight from JVL (Nintendo's official distributor in Chile and Peru) so I'll ask him to please put aside a Charizard, Ness, Pac-Man and Wario for me when they arrive. Oh man I'm gonna do this with the rest of Amiibos I want. The only problem is he doesn't really get plenty of figures so I better ask him today. I think he only got 8 or 10 MegaMan and hasn't gotten new stock since then.
