Just look at any thread about face plates for the small New 3DS and you have your answer of how people would react to a European exclusive amiibo.

I'm sure people outside of NA are looking at it and going.. meh I'll just spray paint Mario if I want that color. It's nothing really special tbh

I know, but cause of the loooooong wait I start to forget and get lazier with checking. If this thread wasn't bumped regularly I probably would have completely forgot by now.

I'm surprised too. I'm confident there would be an uproar if this wasn't coming to America but was Europe or Japan. I know I would ticked. Guess they don't really care, that or they are mad about it on other forums outside of gaf. Or they are just grateful they haven't had to deal with the US supply problems. I would much rather have an easier time finding amiibo than a gold mario that I could just import anyway.

Though it wouldn't surprise me if every region ends up getting an exclusive.

I think it's just that the overwhelming majority of gaffers are from NA, so you don't hear much unless it's NA getting the short end of the stick. I mean, we can hardly discuss the smaller n3DS or cover plates because the threads get filled with "FUCK NOA" drive by posts, lol.

Importing Gold Mario is easier said than done. You basically have to get someone to ship it to you since Walmart only ships locally. It's potentially nice and easy with the generosity of gaffers but I can imagine it's not that easy elsewhere, what with the scalping prices and all.

Oh yeah, it's definitely an ebay exclusive for international folks. Watch ebay closely that first week. Prices will start high initially but will likely fall quickly due to the vast amounts on ebay, and there will be a lot I have no doubt. Wouldn't surprise me if you can find one for $25 US if you pay close enough attention.

Yeah or hope for a generous gaffer like you said, if you don't want to go that route.
 
Man, I was preaching patience about Wave 4 for the last couple months, but I'm starting to get fed up. I feel like I actually care about them less every day. I wish they would have just gotten all the Smash figures out before starting with the Mario line, that must be the hold-up at this point. Annoying.

Still got my alerts set up, so I'm ready to order an extra Lucina and Robin should it go up at a reasonable time for me and my buddy on here ;o

Yeah it's pretty annoying and is completely different to their handling on amiibos to this point. They are supposed to come out, what, next month? Still no preorders. I guessed early March in the early part of last month and it kind sounded crazy even to me, yet here were are middle March and nothing.
 
Hey guys, I need some quick clarification. Nntendo said they've sold over 3.5 million amiibo to date. Is that worldwide, or just in the US? Doing a journalism class & I figure I might as well write about the newest hot selling toy out.

Probably US, since Nintendo hit over 5.7 million globally back in December.

Edit: Yup, it's US (well, US/CA). And that number is probably also only as of December as well, given that Nintendo has said that about 2/3 of worldwide amiibo sales have been in the US.

Basically just doing the usual "HEY, look, a hot new toy! This is what they do, & also they're hard to find because they're a hot new toy".

I got all my W4 preordered (excluding PacMan, he was sold out and never came back in stock) from Amazon UK during the first week of Feb, thanks to GAF for the alert. I initially missed on Ness too, but he came back up after about 10-15 mins.

I also was able to place a W4 preorder (all 6) from Amazon Japan during the last week of Feb. Was casually browsing Amazon.jp, and saw all W4 were up for preorder. Didn't think too much about it at first, but eventually placed an order about 1 hour after I initially saw it becoming available. I was actually surprised they remained available for that long duration.

For the US W4 preorder, I'm not too worried if I miss it, as I already have orders from UK and JPN. If I'm able to, I probably would place an order too.

Any Gaffer that can predict the EXACT date that ANY MAJOR RETAILER (i'm talking Amazon, TRU, BB, GS, Target, Walmart, Fry's) will post the FIRST pre-orders of Wave 4 amiibos in the USA will be entered into the raffle to receive my Toon Link!
(Not including Newegg or FYE, sorry..)

To sum it up: if you guess the exact day wave 4 preorders are finally going to be up for grabs in the U.S then you enter the raffle. You don't have to guess the retailer that will do it first, just the date, and that counts towards every retailer.

And if any other Gaffers decide to join in on this that would make this an amazing event.
I'm only shipping domestic but if some Gaffers that want to join in on the Amiiboway (yep, I've just found a name for this) you may ship wherever you like!
So, if you have a spare amiibo, common, uncommon, hell, rare if you're in the mood, than how about you join in?!

Just quote the Gaffer's Amiiboway post and add the prediction date.

I just checked Marth prices on eBay. I then promptly decided to sell my sealed US Marth and ordered a Japanese version. I open the packages anyway, so region means nothing to me.

I'd actually think it would be nice to have an all JPN Fire Emblem set, but the figures aren't scenduled for release until end of April, and I'd have to wait two weeks after that before receiving the figures. I'd actually prefer that I had missed the US preorders so I could rationalize paying the slightly higher JPN preorder prices.

Well, and unlike in NA, we can buy the MP Mario without buying the game, so that to me also deflates any disappointment. Sure, I'd love it if it came out here, but at least it's not straight up one of the 49 Smash that's exclusive there.

To coincide with Codename STEAM's release, Marth was put up as a 24-hour "timed edition" on Friday. Anyone who ordered one gets one, it'll just take a couple months.

That was a lie. Could you imagine if they did though? We're all really, really bored here. There was literally a debate over how little there was to talk about, and whether the Line group was poaching what little discussion we could have.

The big news you missed was that Horizon will open his own amiibo store and will cater to us GAF amiibros. Here's a picture of how it will work.

It probably is. There's about 999 posts in that thing a day. I just go about my day playing Disney Tsum Tsum instead. I unlocked Rosalina's sister in that game today. Didn't know she had a sister named Anna. The more you know.
 
Question, are third party Amiibos a possibility? Playtonic games said they wanna possibly do Amiibos for Project Ukelele and I'm unsure if it's that's in the realm of possibility for them.

But I believe it's possible since they did mention that before and we already do have 3rd party characters even though they're produced by Nintendo. Maybe if they can come up with a good idea Nintendo might help out. Otherwise, I believe it's possible to use the NFC reader but you just won't have access to the amiibo part and so it'll just be your own thing and you will have to sell the toys yourself or something.

The point of amiibo is to increase brand awareness of Nintendo IP in stores. I don't see why they would waste shelf-space on third-party characters that aren't even recognizable.
 
I'm almost positive 3rd party amiibo lines are possible. They'd just be sold, manufactured, and marketed by said third parties as well.

I believe that 1) the "amiibo" name is effectively just branding for Nintendo's proprietary NFC protocol and its implementation in general, and 2) it is completely open to third party use. Prior to amiibo, developers would have to use their own proprietary systems (see Pokémon Rumble and Ubisoft's theoretical figure line from ages back), but now that functionality is baked in the system OSes and SDKs via amiibo. So any third party figure lines that would come out now would simply implement the amiibo protocol rather than developing a new one, meaning any NFC figures from now on that directly interface with Nintendo consoles (as opposed to USB stands like Disney and Skylanders) would be amiibos.

Not a chance. Amiibos are Nintendo's brand, and the company is very careful and controlling over their branding image. But the NFC technology is simple, and anyone can create their own use of the technology as they see fit, so Playtonic can create figurines that are just like amiibos, minus the amiibo name, which is what I think they intended to convey when they said they want to create their own.

Someone asked this earlier yesterday on the previous page if you want to see some more thoughts on it.
 
If Capcom put out a version of Street Fighter IV with their own version of amiibos, I would buy all the classic characters. Hell, I would settle for Super Street Fighter II Turbo at this point. Why does Capcom deny Nintendo console owners of this game?

The answer is Yes and No. The technology used to make amiibos is available to everyone, there is nothing special about it, it is just NFC technology. Playtonic could definitely do so. However, the Amiibo name is owned by Nintendo, so they could not release "Amiibo"s without a license agreement with Nintendo.

Basically, same thing, different name. If Project Ukelele were a Wii U/3DS exclusive, I assure you Nintendo would gladly let them use the Amiibo name, but I don't believe Ukelele is exclusive so far.

It's bizarre since Super SF4 sold so well on 3DS. The launch bump helped, no doubt, but there certainly is an audience.
 
I have two Toads on order -- one from Gamestop and one from Amazon. Originally my plan was to open one to use with Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker and keep one in the package, but I'm just going to open one and not buy two (we want to buy a house next Spring, I need to stop doing things like that).

If someone wants my preorder from Amazon for Toad, I can update my prime order and you can just pay me for it and he will ship straight to you. Let me know or I will cancel him in a couple of hours.

Has anyone's order from amazon shipped yet for the MP10 guys? I got Toad coming, but I'm just wondering if he's gonna end up shipping this week and possibly be here in time for game launch.

Not that I'm buying the game right away either, I just want Toad because he looks awesome.
