Checking gamestop's website and seeing 80% of them have Pit listed as in stock or low stock, only to call any one of them and find out he was on an indefinite hold as each person on the pre-order wait list got their 3-day opportunity to grab him before he got passed on to the next person on the list, was really frustrating for everyone involved.
Now we can check the site, and if they're listed in stock we can call and confirm they are in stock, then we go buy it and the associates don't have to deal with any more fruitless calls from people all over the metroplex about that one reserved amiibo.
We don't get to lock in our purchases early, but we also don't have to worry about pre-orders getting canceled. And the crazy race to the actual purchase (at least for online stores) is just the same as the race to the pre-order, as we saw with gold mario and toad.
