Amplitude (Harmonix) PS3/PS4 - KS (Funded, final day)

Congrats to the Harmonix people, i honestly thought this wasnt making it, but get some tweets from lord Shu, anything is possible. I love that man.

So I was throwing out a bunch of old artwork I've been meaning to get rid of, and serendipitously found this pic I made in May of 2003. I had no idea I still had it 11 years later!! Thought some of you in here might appreciate this reminder of how obsessed I was with the original game.

It was done with a bunch of glow in the dark pens and highlighters. Unfortunately a lot of the ink has faded and no longer glows in the dark or really responds to black light... It used to look so cool at night.
Wow that's super cool!

If any EDM artist will make it, I bet it will be him. Come on, Somnambulist. Oh god yes. Heck, he could get his own stage. Flaming June, Somnambulist, Skylarking, The Emergency...

Listening to Flaming June as we speak.

WE'RE GETTING ANOTHER AMPLITUDE. HOLY FUCK. ^-^

2015 can't come soon enough.

Se this is what happens when I don't visit GAF for years. I shan't make that mistake again, i missed this place. Could've been in this awesome thread instead of shouting into the darkness on my FB feed and such. Anyway, I'm so glad they got funded, would love to see the stretch goal but it seems pretty unlikely.

Wow, what a ride.
Hopefully they'll spend the overage on music licensing when the stretch goal fails.

An artist's rendition of my reaction to today's developments:

As far as where the extra money goes, I'd prefer it all go to making the core game the best it can be. Licensed music could be great, but that's also something they'd be able to provide via DLC, where it might be possible for them to go for a less risky approach (like splitting royalties on each download rather than paying large sums of money for songs to be in the main game).

That stretch goal is bs. Why even announce it, if there is no chance?

It's not like having it there is going to hurt anything. They've also said they'd consider other ways to continue funding after the Kickstarter ends. So it's possible the extra funds could be added onto if they decide to go that route.

Wow! Gotta admit, I didn't think it would make it, gotta give props to Harmonix for not giving up and basically busting their butt to get to the goal. It'll be some delicious crow.

It's a shame that they won't be able to reach stretch goals though, no online play really hurts.

Also, I wonder how the financial situation will be with them and Sony. To be completely honest, if Sony gets any of the money from the future sales (That don't have to do with it being on PSN of course) it's going to feel kind of dirty for me.

I would love online multi but am happy enough with a Rock Band Blitz style score war.

I don't think Sony is taking anything. Sounds like they were really magnanimous and just saying "Yeah, go ahead and do your own thing"

I honestly thought this would never make it after the disastrous first days. I'm happy for the people who'll get to play it.

I'll grab it down the road as a PS+ discount or something.

Edit : That stretch goal is nuts. 400k for head to head online play? In 24 hours? Yeah, THAT's not happening

I admit when I first saw this thread and where the funding was at, I didn't think it would make it. I guess whoever said most people waited until the last minute to fund these things was right.

Should have gone with a 875K Vita Stretch goal.

775K is just around 50% of their actual budget...

So the current budget for PS3/PS4 is $1,550,000 for the two platforms, I don't think an additional 100k would be enough to get the dev kits, and fund the development for PSVita.

Awesome. Words cannot express how glad I am to see this series get so much love. I'm glad I'm not the only one with fond memories of it back on the PS2 -- it was one of the first titles I have ever played online aside from Socom...

In short, this will be quite the create..I'm glad I was able to back it :)

There's no way to bring your donations to a screeching halt like an impossible stretch goal that an extremely limited portion of your fanbase would care about. It's almost comical how fast this thread went from ^_^ to =\

My post made nothing but sense. It's logic is completely sound.

Using Sony money to pay people to advertise a Sony IP to help fund it's development is sleazy.

Using leftover codes from Rock Band promotions to get their dream project made is really awful. Wait, what?

Dave, Dave...

I get wanting a Vita version (I have a Vita too), but I would much rather have a more complete version of the game than a less complete version on more platforms.

I do hope they find success with the release of the game (at least, more so than last time), and then can look into a Vita release in the future. Who knows, maybe Sony will offer to publish a Vita port for them or at least front some of the costs.

So happy for this. At first I wasn't going to pledge, but 3 days ago I did. ($35 jump in while I didn't have access to GAF)

That is synchronous Head to head Online which they never done before but we have asynchronous competitive online and Leaderboards already in the game.

I just updated my pledge to 125 for the t-shirt. I want to make sure I'm doing this right - when it says add $10 for shipping outside US, it means add 10 to your pledge right? So if I'm in Canada going for the $125 tier, my pledge should be $135? Or is shipping charged separately?

So freaking awesome. Gj Harmonix for not loosing hope when most other of us did. Also a good showing that PC isn't a must. A shame it is not for Vita instead of PS3 though.

Be realistic here, the vita backers would be a fraction of that.

Personally, I don't think the vita is well suited for rhythm games, but that is just me. Small buttons + clicky = pain in the fingers.

I started losing hope around hour 30, then a shitton of money came outta nowhere. Can't believe they hit their mark so many hours before the deadline given how slow things had gotten a day earlier.

There's one huge advantage to designing a rhythm game for a handheld -- the input delay is a fixed and known quantity. Try playing the Vita and PS3 versions of Project Diva. The Vita one is tuned properly for the Vita's display lag, whereas you have to mess with calibration on the PS3 since there are 3456436432 displays and audio setups all with varying amounts of lag, and you can never get it quite right. It's less of an issue with Harmonix's games as they generally tend to have very loose timing windows (although Frequency/Amplitude is far stricter than Guitar Hero/Rock Band are).

This isn't particularly constructive or positive, especially when the project is probably only barely going to meet/exceed funding.

Does everything have to be constructive or positive in regards to the negative nellies? I thought it was funny and worth it. I'm glad we made it for sure but some people were pretty down at the beginning.

This wouldn't be a problem had Project Diva 1 had a calibration tool. Harmonix makes the best calibration tools (seriously rock band 2 with a rb2 guitar and they have made it idiot proof). Therefore, this is a non issue.

And I know this is just me, but I do better on PDF on ps3 over vita, there has always felt like there is something inherently wrong with the timing window for the vita version. That or I just can't play well with the tiny clicky buttons.

Man, I really wish that vinyl tier was like $100 and not $200...

I still went for it, it just looks too sexy. Would've preferred a vinyl-only option, but yeah... the other stuff that comes with it and I have no use for will probably find its way to friends - for good Karma!
