Ancient Aliens: New Nin. 3DS now offers the best SNES emulation on any handheld

that sounds good but i'll wait until 1:1 pixel mode is included to truly dive into it.

Eh? That's been there from the start. You have full control over scaling in the retroarch menu.

Here's a shot:

no, current settings: 70% of the time it is removed, 30% of the time changed to a random alternative.

That's amazing.

I should get around to installing this on my n3DS but I do now have a Framemeister and a modded RGB SNES mini + Genesis so I haven't really bothered. I'll likely jump in once GBA speed gets better since I'd love to be able to play Mother 3 on it.

i swear the last time i was in the 3DS homebrew thread, only BlarghSNES supported 1:1.

either the scene moves too fast and i missed it or there was misinformation from the start.

Questions:

- I know how to change the DNS but I don't know what the implications of that are and I am almost entirely digital-only on my N3DS. To access eShop, would I have to change my DNS settings again and then change them back when I want to access the emulators?

- Say I go the Tubehax route--does this mean I can only use emulators when I have an internet connection?

Rich! Do you have a custom configuration for Snes emulation? I've been playing DKC2 for a few days now, and while it definetly runs near perfect. Sometimes I get dips in the performance (45-ish FPS).

Emulation runs with limited system resources correct? Meaning that Nintendo would have much room for performance improvement if they wanted to release SNES VC on 3DS?

The DNS settings blocks updates, and updates could block Tubehax. Can't go on eShop without newest update.

Yes and yes. If you missed out on the chance to get Ironfall / didn't get Cubic Ninja, that's the only entrypoint (there's a Smash 3DS one too, but it's pretty convoluted). A Ocarina of Time exploit will be released which can be run without an internet connection, just like Ironfall's, but YouTube's needs it.

I haven't tried it, but yes it runs full speed. Sound emulation is a bit funny on Secret of Mana from what I read on gbatemp (samples aren't filtered correctly) but the retroarch guys are onto it.

I was about to say, the sound filter sounds pretty crummy. Like basic linear interpolation.

A good way to check how accurate the SPC emulation is would be to load Contra III or Axelay and listen to the sound effects.

The SNES is not an ancient alien, it's a modern spirit world manifestation of awesome. Congrats 3DS, that's killer.

Sweet I didn't know Retroarch was on 3DS now. Definitely going to hit this up.

Really wish Nintendo would put SNES and GBA VC on 3DS but this will do for now.

to get 1:1 in retroarch you need to turn on integer scaling and set the aspect ratio to 8:7

Interesting. Does the OoT one require a cartridge, or will digital work? Do we know yet?

Tempted to try and snag one of the Happy Home bundles on Friday and use it as my emulation station, but money is super tight...whomp.

This would absolutely be better than playing on a Shield due to the input lag Android brings to that platform.

Should be mentioned : this is awesome because the 3DS is 240p, which makes it pixel perfect.

as for GBA, having a 9.0 N3DS I prefer making my own VC than using RetroArch^^

About SNES, not sure how accurate CatSFC is though, I tend to use Higan/Bsnes on Android (via retroarch)

Yeah, it was a stupid joke. Sorry folks.

Do Super FX games run at full speed?

Derp, makes sense now. Apologies

And nah. SFX2 is a bit heavy on the old console, Yoshi hovers at around 50fps (JP version, N3DS). Yoshis Island on the GBA runs much better via mgba.

Well, if Nintendo had SNES games on New 3Ds they would cost $8 each, which is the same things as not having the games on the system (at least for me since i really think this price is just too high)

what the hell has happened to my title? ha. Oh man, shouldn't be posting this shit at 4am. I must have accidentally cross copied it from another thread title.

Could a mod please change it to "PSA: The New Nintendo 3DS now has the best SNES emulation on any handheld yet"

Ahahahahaha

What about battery life?

Is the emulator light on resources or can you push the system even more with optimal settings?

I suppose there's gonna be a game of cat and mouse between hackers and Nintendo for a while, like what happened to the Wii. I think I'll wait for things to settle down before really diving into 3DS homebrew.

At first I didn't care, but now I'm annoyed that the N3DS SD card is inaccessible.

You can still access it's contents and transfer data without taking out the card. In settings, there's an option to make your 3ds act like a network drive which you can access from a computer running Windows 7+ on the same network

So, I haven't tried this yet, but I have a question:

On my old fat blue DS, I was able to get SNES games to run mostly fine. It wasn't perfect, but most games were playable. Is this the case with an OG 3DS? I might try it tonight if so. I'm fine with "passable."
