Did you even read anything in the link? They specifically mention handhelds. I never said the NX was a portable.Dammit: NX is a home console. The next handheld will not play wii U games.

Ooooooooooh yyyyeeeeeaaaahhhhhh. SNES on dat OLED.Oh and another note...the Vita is gonna be blown open tomorrow with a new exploit. So yeah, New 3DS will have a contender as Retroarch is on the Vita too.
Though I agree that 'best emulation' might lean towards hyperbole, Android devices do not have this:

The New 3DS is built (and colored) like a portable SNES. It really does breath new life into SNES games. I've emulated on PSP for years but it always felt lacking. With Retroarch on 3DS I've put hours into games I've had in my backlog since the 1990s.

That's the main reason I'm really interested in seeing 8/16bit emulation take off on 3DS.
I use this over BT :

Or this if I'm on the go :

But that defeats the purpose of having a handheld device.
No, it doesn't. They both strap to an iPhone or an Android phone perfectly fine and afaik, they're both portable.
My iPhone and the NES30 don't take more space together than my n3DSXL, that's for sure.
I still have a launch firmware JP N3DS. Gotta try this out.
people that post false info in forums always pisses me off.
anyway i get 60 fps CATSFC Plus Liberto in killer instinct
and 59,8987 fps in super mario world
super FX games are a no go
and 40 fps with Snes9x Next Liberto. with killer instinct
stuttering gameplay in super mario world
super fx games work but not playable
my overal best experience is CATSFC
i want things to work 100% or not at all
running on a N3ds
Also this isn't running too bad right now. Impressive.
I don't think you've seen an Nvidia Shield.
Edit: Oh you meant the colors not the placement.
That is pretty cool, but irrelevant to me until it runs smoothly on the original 3DS.
It might once we get actual cfw and full system resource access. I get the impression smea and the other key hackers in the community don't plan on going that route until 3DS' active lifespan is over though.Never gonna happen.

You can still access it's contents and transfer data without taking out the card. In settings, there's an option to make your 3ds act like a network drive which you can access from a computer running Windows 7+ on the same network
Never gonna happen.
Outside of GBA, it already is happening. SNES games ran great for me on my OG 3DS using BlargSNES. It's not compatible with all games yet, but it can do quite a few.
Tried this last night on my N3DS. It was super-simple to do. My only complaint is that when one of the RetroArch apps doesn't find a file it's looking for it usually crashes the whole system hard and you have to hold down the power to force off. Then boot up, load the Youtube app (which fails with an error 25% of the time) and try again. Hopefully as it matures, it will crash gracefully.
Complete beginner to this but I've done the YouTube hack and installed the home-brew channel. How do I install at the emus now that I've got that on there?
Only really looking to play a few of the classic SNES games and maybe a couple of other ROMs so I don't need a whole set of emulators on there. Is that 3DS Portal thing the whole game?
I'm not even sure where the SD card slot is my New 3DS XL, and I'm well past the firmware needed.
somehow, seeing super metroid running on a 3DS makes me feel all warm inside.
Also this isn't running too bad right now. Impressive.

what file can retroarch not find good sir?
maybe i can give you some free tips![]()
Bios go in in the SD:/retroarch/cores/systemI mean things like BIOS files. They don't tell you where to put them on the SD card for RetroArch and there's no "BIOS" folder. Some of the emulators require them and if you don't have them in the right spot, or have the wrong ones, the 3DS will crash completely after it gives you the error in the info dump on the bottom screen. Same thing happens when you attempt to load an arcade game and RA doesn't like your dump because one of the roms is the wrong size or something.
I was able to play Marvel Super Heroes on my 3DS last night using the CPS2 emu and it ran flawlessly. Pretty cool.
I must be doing something wrong, every time I try to launch an emulator the top screen goes black and the bottom screen goes red, then it freezes.

You have an outdated homebrew launcher. Redownload from smealums site.
So, can I play Virtual boy games with 3D on?
Bios go in in the SD:/retroarch/cores/system
Any tips for getting stuff to run smoothly? I've got a n3ds and have tried link to the past, and it runs at around 40 fps.
also Golden sun runs at about 30 fps in battles and kingdom hearts chain of memories doesnt launch at all.
Another thing is: How do I save?? I've tried to figure out save states and even using the game's save function didnt work (on golden sun)
Otherwise, very cool and exciting. Thanks for bringing this up Rich XD
Is it just as good on the normal 3ds? It's all I got, and I don't plan on upgrading...
You're doing something wrong...I've finished the game and it was a locked 60fps throughout.
CatSFC, newest nightly (last nights build) with audio sync off?
I'm not even sure where the SD card slot is my New 3DS XL, and I'm well past the firmware needed.
It's defeating the purpose. I have a NES30 and SNES30 and using it with a phone is unweildly and significantly less portable than an actual handheld.
