Watched Rogue One again yesterday. Andor gets asked if he ever has been in prison, which he denies. Filthy liar! šŸ˜…

I had a nice Thanksgiving dinner then got to retreat to my mancave with a nice tall old fashioned and watch the last two episodes. The best Star Wars stuff ever put to the small or silver screen since the trilogy IMO.

Luthen showing how dangerous and buck wild he is. I actually said out loud "holy shit, he's going right at them!". Now that's how a writer properly subverts expectations. (I thought my avatar image was a photoshop when I found it - had no idea the man actually genuinely smiled once in his life)

B2EMO's trauma. And when he led the funeral procession. As a grown man I almost teared up. Who knew a droid could show such heartbreak.

Andor having a flashback about a tender, learning moment with his father as he visited his stone in the wall hit me hard.

His mother Maarva's postpartum speech to spark the flame of the rebellion was amazing.

So much more to unpack. What a great show.

Would have to agree itā€™s the best and I really am looking forward to watching it all in one sitting. So much incredible stuff and all with characters who havenā€™t so much as even seen a lightsaber.

Iā€™d love to know what George Lucas thinks of it because itā€™s the best version of his universe since Empire in my book and could be watched as a whole followed by Rogue One and leading into ANH.

I don't want to know what Lucas thinks. I had enough of his garbage. His constant additions to the originals kept making them worse. His prequel movies were atrocious. He, I'm sure, won't like that it's made for adults. Aside from the two aliens in that one scene, there's nothing for kids here and I'm sure he's rolling in his future grave over it.

Overall I didnt like this show. The only episode I thought was decent was the finale.

This show could have been pretty much any setting. Nothing about this show felt like it needed star wars as a setting. It could have been a Vichy France show or something.

I loved how in the end Andor was the only person Luthen couldn't trap. In fact, in a way, Andor trapped him.

Juxtapose the final moments of this season to the scene where Luthen had that Imperial agent confined in an elevator, completely at his will, while behind Luthen was a hallway that seemed to stretch on for infinity. Luthen has an infinite means of escape, while he thinks he's observing the fate of others as his equation foretells. An analogy to every relationship with other people Luthen had. Again, until he met Andor.

Also how fitting is it that the theme music we were hearing all throughout the show and during the intro is the dirge they play on Ferrix for the dead?

Maybe it was a good guess on my part but it seemed somewhat obvious from the prison episodesā€¦Death Star I was super secret, faced many delays, slaves getting rounded up for no reason, sentences extended forever, theyā€™re working on imperial techā€¦.

I think there were enough hints there. I like it when things are implied and not overly explained. Finding out the ā€œsoloā€ in Han Solo actually means ā€œsoloā€ is cringe as hell. Just leave some things unsaid FFS.
The death star is really important. I know everyone loves subtelty but you still need to actually tell the story.

Great job not paying attention and missing the point of the scene.

The things Andor was making in prison were supports for the Death Starā€™s dish - the thing that will kill him in five years.
I took a while for me that to click with me.
I think by the end of the second prison episode I figured it out. Itā€™s not obvious if you arenā€™t thinking about it. The second you wonder what the fuck theyā€™re actually doing in prison it becomes pretty clear.

Iā€™ve seen it all, and I still donā€™t get how some people are genuinely enthusiastic about it.
SkarsgĆ„rd and Serkis completely steal the show. The rest of the cast is the most amazing collection of Bitchy Resting Faces Iā€™ve ever seen on TV. I think you donā€™t see a single genuine smile through the whole thing. Every woman seems to have a grudge with the whole universe.

Episodes 6, 9 and 10 are very good. 11 is worth it for the amazing space escape scene. 12 is good, but predictable. 1 to 4 are a snoozefest and the rest is so-so. The kafkaesque trick they had to pull to not have Andor completely exit the picture is a bit ridiculous, even if it leads to the best part of the show.

I still think the many filler scenes that are blatantly there to make each episode as long as it had to be are bad direction. Itā€™s impossible to count the scenes ending with a shot of a character making a grim face for several seconds too long, or looking around with their eyes darting here and there. The writing fortunately gets better as things come along, but it was really bad in the first few episodes. The music is passable, with some highlights in episode 12.

All in all, itā€™s a 7/10 show for me. The Mandalorian season 1 (I havenā€™t seen 2 yet) is still better, and it feels more Star Wars than Andor.

Glad to see he's not just a rage grifter. Though I dunno where he gets the whole strong women thing at the end, it's ok to have strong women, especially since Mon Monthma was just that since the start.
He's not against strong women characters, it's that it often comes with belittling men and it was refreshing that it wasn't the case here.

Tho he is saying that the show had too many of them, and I didn't see it. It seemed to me at least that he felt that he needed to say something about "the message".

Great finale but fucking seriously a post credits scene? Well let me just go back downstairs and load it back up againā€¦ Fuckin Marvel bullshitā€¦

Oh itā€™s the Death Star.

Oh boy we didnā€™t know that was happening.

Put me firmly in the camp of this show is the best thing since ESB but that is some dumb Marvel shit.

Good catch. I missed the scene during my viewing. I fucking hate when post credits scenes are added.

Just binged it over the a couple of days.

Fantastic stuff. The best Star Wars thing I've seen since Solo. I haven't watched The Mandalorian yet though.

Love the music and the grittiness of it. The CGI is done well, and there are some great scenes.

There are some issues, of course. The factory prison lasted about an episode too long. While the scale has been handled well, in some parts, especially Ferrix do still feel like sets and not have enough people. Not the worst though. And post-credit Death Star was unnecessary; it was obvious they were building trusses for it. I guess the more casual viewers may appreciate it later?

Half against? The consensus is overwhelmingly positive from what I've seen.

I woudn't say it's like Obi Wan Kenobi or Mandalorian. Although if you mean Obi Wan Kenobi meaning not good and Mandalorian meaning good then I'd say it's good. It's the best show they've done.
Fair enough, i might give it a go, i liked The Mandalorion.

Hope you enjoy it! It's a bit different from The Mandalorian in that Mandalorian is more of an adventure show for families. Whereas Andor is a bit more grounded and gritty, not totally dark since it's still Star Wars but just a different feel than what Mandalorian is going for.

This is nothing like Obi Wan or The Mandalorian. It's quite literally the opposite of everything Disney has produced so far - for better or worse.

What a moron. All those identity politics of strong women who have been in the franchise since 77. At least he liked it.

The show is the best piece of Star Wars since original trilogy, Star Wars as written by John LeCarre. It's brilliant.
He's not talking about OG Leia strong women, he's talking about the Vice-Admiral Holdos, Tala from Kenobi who can handpalm slap a stormstrooper out through the helmet, Leia from Kenobi who can outrun men, correct Obi-Wan's mistakes, fix bulkhead door circuitry at the age of 10.

Uhmā€¦ what?
The dude has exactly the same face and tone of voice 95% of his screen time, possibly more.
Skarsgard and Serkis eat his performance for breakfast.

I wouldn't sweat the Golden Globe nominations too much. They're bought.

The Hollywood Foreign Press consists of about 140 people, a public list. They lack rules regarding the accepting of payments or gifts from studios. They are very much unlike The Emmy's or Oscars in that regard.

So all this means is Disney is ponying up money to put more of a spotlight on Luna, the star of their show, not an indictment of how they feel about the performances of the other stars (who I agree had better performances).

For those saying Andor is not true Star Wars, here's counter-arguments to that:

Also learned from this video that Nate Moore(Marvel producer, different leadership I know) doesn't hire people who like the source material but rather hire people who don't like it.

Recently rewatched this and I enjoyed the slow burn opening a lot more now I'm actually invested.

Pinnacle Star Wars, an absolute masterpiece of a series.

Other than the guy in this video, who is saying that? It seems like it's been incredibly well received.
Can't say I've noticed people saying that but I'm not one to have the pulse of SW communities out there.

The guy in video says he's getting a lot of reactions and I found it interesting to post a different viewpoint of SW(Andor).

I think the internet is such a vast place that pretty much every opinion is going to be represented to at least some extent. It's like when you see some article that says "Twitter says..." and it's just one guy with a hot take.

I found the original video and it has 645 views (and that's after this big channel has highlighted it) on an account that has 790 subscribers. They really spend hours talking about this?
