Andor |OT| Disney+

Yeah I just want to echo everyone's sentiments........this show is fucking incredible. Some of the scenes in this episode are just as iconic as the OT. What a masterclass in writing and acting this episode. This is easily my favorite show of the year now, and as a Star Wars fan it's something I had lost all hope to ever see. I genuinely can't believe Disney made this. I am completely dumbstruck.

I love that the internet is now fallen in love with the show like I did in the first three episodes. I saw something very special there, particularly for a Star Wars vehicle, and it proved to remain consistently good. I mean all the main Star Wars subreddits won't shut up about it now, especially after ep10. Now you have people begging Disney for more mature shows, and similar writing for all future Star Wars stuff.

It has been pretty cool and remarkable to watch how this show energized the fandom.

YouTubers hate it because they can’t trash it for cash.

So after this episode, are we to assume that....

Andy Serkis's character never gets out and dies there? Kind of lame to have him go along with Andor's big plan, get to the end, realize he'd have to jump in the water, tell Andor he can't swim and then he just leaves him there anyways.....
I feel that Serkis's character not making it out would be more powerful. Serkis knew that the prison was on a sea. He would have gone through with the uprising and prison break knowing that there was no way that he was getting out. Sacrifice for the cause seems to be a common theme in the series.

It is a stand alone. It's a self contained story. You don't need to see Rogue 1 or Star Wars to understand what's going on.
Ah, that’s a bit different than saying it’s not connected in any way. But thanks for clarifying, that makes more sense

Totally agree, a lot of them are showing their asses now. I used to agree with one or two of them but it’s pretty clear they thrive on having hate boners in order to improve their views.

It’s quite telling when you see they never post a video that’s positive about a movie or tv show. They’d sooner just not speak about it.

Andor may not be to everyone’s taste but it certainly couldn’t be considered trash.

Yep, I asked Youtube to stop recommending me all of them.

It is kinda funny how they’ll do video after video about a show that’s not being received well (e.g. Rings of Power) but when there’s a show that’s in their limited range of topics that’s actually good it’s just silence. It shows how they’re actually just about riding a wave of outrage rather than being a critic.

What’s even more sad are the people who have fully drunken their Kool Aide and believe their grift is legitimate criticism. It’s awesome that a side effect of Andor is their scam being exposed.

The most tragic side character so far IMO: Oolaf, or however his named is spelled. Those fascists worked the sad guy to death, seemingly for over a decade, to the point where he wanted to work harder to help his mates. Fucking tore my heart out.

I will say as a long time fan, this prison arc and escape was the best Star wars has ever been. If I own Disney I give the keys and reign to all involved in this amazing show to make all serious projects in this universe going forward.

The care, the love, the vision are all there. Empire was the top dog, and still is, but gd this show... this show can sit along side her proudly.

I just realized Luthen is Palpatine for the rebels. 100%

Look at him in his black robes. Then listen to his speech.

Also man can he act

Sometimes you need someone just as ruthless/cunning /devious to start a rebellion.

He can act. He is so far the biggest star of the series.
Serkis is smaller fry compared to him.

My brother had a complaint about the series that nothing happens some episodes. But for me the pacing and the buildup. Just make it. That prison break. Had so much weight to it as you got to know the characters. Then what went down really was sad. So it made sense story wise and you were routing for the prisoners.

It’s not all action it has time to breath.
Mando and this are the best live action series.

Rogue one is one of the best Star Wars films also.

I love the espionage side of things of the show and how they are doing a WW2 riff. How the empire are basically space nazi’s this time around and not the comic relief ans the people they hurt are just random every day people who have had enough and don’t want this anymore.
You know the rebellion is coming but this brilliantly shows the birth of it.

Rogue one makes a new hope so much better.

This series. Really gives me Sunday /Xmas movie vibes watching the great escape/dirty dozen war movies. The ones where POWs need to defeat the massive Nazi war machine and they do it through pluck grit and ingenuity.

I really like this show as you can probably tell.
Rogue One Disney GIF by Star Wars

If they took as much and care and attention to the Kenobi series as they do this. That would have been brilliant.

Star Wars needs to be dark oppressive and intense and not marvel jokey jokey
In ANH they blew up a planet. BBQ’ed Luke’s adoptive parents. Killed people at random but it was for kids also.
It’s a shame as after all the other series I had no desire or hope for it but after watching andor im excited.

Book of Bobba Fett what a travesty.

I'm probably going to wait on rewatching Rogue One until the series is over followed by A New Hope: after this show I'll probably actually fucking cheer when the fascist cunts finally get blown up on the Death Star.

Nah. The YouTubers that I am aware of, love the show. The issues is that there is no much demand from the public around it. (Because there is no drama around it I guess).
Yeah it's the SW lore and fact channels thst have a lot of traction with this show. Lot's to unravel

This episode was just setup for the finale. Still had some good moments. Brought a smile to my face to see Sergeant Linus again. He is Karn’s only friend :( but after all this time they stayed friends on space instagram :)

Luthen’s boss status was already achieved last week but this just solidified it. Guy is outshowing Andor on his own show lol

Power lasers take a lot of time to load.
But great scene, cinematography felt like best of old and new Star Wars.
Just thinking: With Andor such a known rebel, how come the empire doesn’t have any face scanners. Even China could find him faster.

Sad that next week’s already the finale.

Looking forward to a 12 episode binge watch though. I’ve been watching week to week but seeing it as one long film with my extended family over Turkey Day is going to be epic.

Luthen's ship being LVL999 is hilarious. All these episodes building up that he's the mafia boss then the show finally lets it rip.

I didn't enjoy the space battle at all. I thought the situation would have been resolved by some form of trickery instead of god mode and ship lightsabers. The sequence felt out of character for the series.

I did enjoy the rest of the episodes development. Mon Motha's near breakdown was sublime. The actor has nailed the various levels needed for the role. I kind of appreciate Andor's role as a plot device instead of the main character. It's refreshing to see a plot develop without a clear lead. The method of storytelling feels more like a novel than a modern tv show

I'm one of those guys who grew up in the 80s, saw the first 2 SW films and definitely enjoyed them (never had any toys though) and with ROJ got put off enough by the Ewoks that I was happy to be done with it (to be honest I was always just far more of a Tron guy personally).

Then of course the prequels, I went to see the new one in 1999 and then, well, I knew I really didn't need to watch any more new SW things ever again. Ever.

Rogue One came out several years ago and the nerds realllllly hit it home about how "you have GOT to see this film!" Ok fine, I broke my vow at last and gave it a watch awhile later (pandemic boredom). Movie was ok, had some interesting sequences and such, but not really anything that was lighting a fire within me.

Went to a friend's get together to watch the first few episodes of Mando - ok those were pretty good, after a couple I was pretty tired of Baby Yoda (plus just seeing it evvvvverywherrrrre on the Internet otherwise) so that was that.

And then this.. well I'm not so sure how Andor got on my radar. Obviously I heard of it just like it's impossible not to hear of all of the other big SW goings on if you are any kind of a respectable nerd, but nothing sounded like I should care. Then I guess on FB, people started posting some screen grabs and right off I could tell that something special was happening here. Just a couple screens and it really looked like they were paying homage to the SW that I was into as a kid, design-wise, in a way that I'd not really seen elsewhere. With those pics of course the usual clamor about "holy shit this show is actually quite well done" and as my queue is relatively quiet right now, I thought I'd give a watch as it might be fun to at least look at for a bit. Watched the first episode... uhhh, that was interesting, but really slow, do I really care about this? Ok we will check out number 2.. ok that's about the same speed. Stuff is definitely nice to look at but, this shit is just plodding on and it's hard to feel drawn in really.

Then. I dunno what happened. I talked to a friend who was lapping this up and decided to give it another chance. Watched third episode and then alright, that was it, I found the spot.

This show is legit great. One of the best things I've seen all year, easily. Can't believe I have any interest in a Star Wars thing not made in the 70s or 80s but here I am. And the ties to SW are honestly the Cherry on top (Tie fighters, storm troopers, etc). All those things that I dug as a kid are being so lovingly and perfectly handled here. All the characters are very well fleshed out and reasonable. The stuff I would expect to be bored by, is all quite captivating. Somehow the impossible has happened and even to me, Star Wars has become fascinating again. Well done, excited for the finale and BRING ON SEASON 2!!!!

Ya I suppose due to the show's lack of pyrotechnics it could seem novel to the show. But even then I think this set piece was quite well thought-out and has been built up proper. Any other show would be quick to simply jump the gun and shoot first, Luthen tried to use deception by using a false ID and when that failed the Imperial officers even go out of their way to say that it will be good practice to onboard anyways. And as ridiculous as the lightsabers are, Luthen gave a Kyber Crystal to Andor. And Kyber Crystals are probably what's powering the ship and those blades which allows the ship to be faster than other ships.

Nothing in the show prepared me for:

Luthien single-handedly crippling a star destroyer and destroying most of a fighter wing with a souped up freighter. Especially in a show which has been relatively subdued so far with space-ak47 and gritty combat. The device disabling the beam or something else like contacting a mole in his network (which the episode played up) would have been more appropriate. The space fight feels like it was included purely to offset the lack of action in the episode.

That ship has been hyped up all season and of course Luthen would have a ton of tricks up his sleeve to escape any altercation like this. It's perfectly in-line with the series and shows how dangerous Luthen is.

Lol OK. We have different expectations of a narrative and can agree to disagree. I reckon he could solo the death star himself if he follows the Disney trajectory.

Pure hyperbole.

Expectations of narrative? LOL. The entire arc of the series has been about the Empire underestimating literally everyone. Here they see a small ship and even though the fake credentials check out they decide to bring him in anyway for "practice." they don't give a shit about anyone they fuck with.

Well Luthen fucked up their ship and killed 3 pilots for their arrogance leading to the camera panning away from the main officer in stunned silence.

How is this NOT in line with the series so far?

Your use of hyperbole shows you have no ground to stand on. Like I said, that scene is perfectly in line with the show so far.

I guess you haven't watched much of the new Star Wars.

Edit: I'm not interested in discussing with people who edit themselves after the fact. Especially after a response like that. I'll let your original post sit in my quote while you talk to yourself.

How far would those lasers reach on the side of the ship. Could've used it to blast the main ship too.

I assume the big one had energy shields. Unless those get depleted first I think you need non-energy weapons (like the countermeasures here, bombs like in Last Jedi, or a ramming ship like in Rogue One) to damage them.

BTW I don't think Karn and Cinta are making it out of next episode alive. Bix....I give her 50/50.
