Google really need to change the update behaviour so that once you've been "given" the update you can get it whenever you want. Twice now I've had the "chance" to install 4.4.2 on my Nexus 4, both times I've told it to update and as soon as it downloaded and re-booted the phone it fails - just says "Error!" on the screen. I reboot the phone and I'm still on 4.4.

Just tried to check for the update again to see if I can install it and "Your phone is up to date" - no it isn't. Unless they pulled the update for some reason, I don't see why I can't download it if I had the opportunity to before.

So for the last two weeks I've been low on storage no matter how much stuff I delete. I decided to see what was taking up so much space and within the "Misc" category of the system files, I found a thing called "o" that's taking up 22GB. Does anybody know what this is?

That sounds suspicious as hell...

Had a hands on with the Xperia Z Ultra wifi. Essentially a mini-tablet. Comes with a bigger battery and a soft touch plastic back rather that the glass one on the 4G ZU.

Used one with 4.4 which was pretty nice.

It will retail for £299, €399, $399. The only thing that would make it better would be a 7" screen rather than the 6.44" one. It's also expensive compared to the Nexus 7, but the build quality is much better and the screen is also better.

Are you rooted or on a custom kernel? That can stop the OTA installing and you'll have to wait a few days to get offered it again (this happened to me in the summer with a 4.3 update).

No, I'm on stock 4.4 - I wonder if it was because the update failed, that started a wait timer or something.

I love our N10, but they have got to fix the Hangouts app. It still has the same noise cancelling microphone bug on that tablet. Ughhh.

I've been using a launcher that let's me use the "OK Google" voice stuff and Google Now integration with my Nexus 10 (I forget the name of it), but it just updated and messed everything up.

The icons seem to have gotten bigger, there's less space for apps in both the dock and the rest of the screen, and I can't resize widgets like Gmail anymore. After the update the gmail widget takes up half the screen! Worst of all is that there doesn't seem to be any settings options either (stuff like icon resizing or number of rows/columns), at least none that I can find.

I wasn't using the hands free voice stuff often enough for it to be that useful, so I won't have a problem going back to the default launcher. Still, it sucks that whatever updated seems to have fudged up that alternate one pretty bad. I did really like having Google Now just by swiping to the left, some of that stuff was useful. :(

Edit: Google experience launcher I think is the name of it.

That's not meant for the N10. So it sucks but oh well, it's unsupported. I have the same issue. Wish I hadn't updated.

So, I got the LG Pad 8.3 Google Play edition and it's a bit...laggy. Having the N5, the experience is a bit jarring at times.

I also ordered a N7, will compare both, keep one and gift the other.

So I decided to check out some stuff on my Note 3 I haven't before and come across some Samsung Hub app thing.

It gave me a free album (Daft Punk), so thanks guys!

What's the App's purpose? Why would I buy movies there when they are much more accessible on Google Play/Movies?

Well, they want their own stores, but yeah theyre shitty. Movies cost more, music service costs more... etc... and theyre all more terribad.

Agreed. Google is not supporting the n10 well. I never had the issue with mine but a family member was. I'm assuming this hasn't gone away with kitkat and the most recent version of hangouts?

I switched back to Dalvik because I was getting enough force closes that it started to bother me. Does 4.4.2 entail specific ART improvements?

Well, 4.4.1 fixed whatever was bothering WhatsApp so I'd assume there were some behind-the-scenes updates to ART in 4.4.2 as well. I haven't run into any force closes with the apps I have on my setup right now.

My friend sent me and my wife a group message this weekend using his iPhone, but we didn't receive it.

We both have Moto X's with Kit Kat and the latest Hangouts installed with MMS group message support. Is this some sort of iMessage incompatibility thing?

Did you two both have iPhones before? There shouldn't be an issue if you didn't. I've received group messages from iPhones. Basically, from the iPhone user's perspective, if one person in the conversation isn't a registered iMessage user then the whole message will be sent through normal group MMS.

Nope, never had iPhones. Maybe my friend should make sure he hit the send button.

A friend had an android htc one phone stolen.

Are there anything she can do to track or remote secure?
Not sure really unless she installed a tracking app beforehand. Maybe the phone network can track the location of the SIM card? Unless whoever stole it took the card out, in which case that wouldn't help.

It doesn't help now, but when she gets a replacement or gets the phone back tell her to install Cerberus and then it can be tracked in case anything happens to it in the future.

Sure, thanks for your help.

I don't think carriers will ever track a phone for you. And resolution probably wouldn't be good enough to be useful.

Imei number should be blocked now anyway.

So android doesn't have a remote wipe or something built in?

how is it the writing with a 'pen' compared to a note device? i currently own a Note 8 and i would like to know if Z ultra works as well and can be considered direct competittion to Note's spen features.

Nope.

It does have small apps though so you can multitask to a degree. It's really just a large Xperia Z1 though. (My other half has one)

such a pitty, all those phablet seem just to go for big screens, but what makes Note series awesome is spen.

btw, now that you mention small apps, i had them on my Xperia T and miss them on Nexus 5, could i fix that somehow?

Only problem I have had since turning on ART is Temple Run 2 closes if I touch the screen when the app is loading after launching it. If I leave the screen alone it is fine, other than that had zero issues with ART.
