I feel kind of glad that I'm not able to notice these performance issues on my 5X, nor do I notice an appreciable performance degradation over time. I haven't rebooted my phone since I got it a few weeks ago. I have not been as satisfied overall with a phone as this one in a long time, with the exception of audio recording not sounding great.

My friend group does not use Snapchat, so maybe that's one reason. :B

Z5C, the tons of Mediatek 6752 and Helio x10 powered phones out there like Meizu MX5 etc

No encryption though

EDIT: Not MX5 that one has 3gb, other Meizu phones do have 64+2gb though

I know nothing of the Chinese devices but I know I've seen reviews stating the z5 has bad performance.

The z5c is only a 720p and yeah probably not encrypted.

Yeah my first 3 weeks were honeymoon too.

From my experiences you seem partially accurate. Its 64 bit Encrypted L/M.

Devices that are on 32 bit L/M un-encrypted with only 2 gb of ram do not seem to be suffering like this.

Edit: Android in its current state is a hog and its not helping that google is forcing encryption on new phones. It needs 3/4 GB of RAM, Snapdragon 820+ and super fast flash. When your phone is getting bogged down by crappy software/memory mgmt you need as much cpu and flash speed as you can get. The last thing they need is shitty 808/810/Tegras overheating. I think the s7 will actually be a pretty good performer just annoyed its not USB C.
it just sucks that their solution seems to be to wait until the hardware specs can hide the OS's faults.

To androids credit the cpus and flash memory speed has been shit. Even though iPhones are operating with less Ram their cpus and and flash speed is always top notch.

What I don't understand is why Google used cheap flash again in their new phones and Pixel C. They learned nothing from the Nexus 9. Not even mentioning the RAM. Better margins are not worth ruining a brand...

They're choosing shittier margins by going for mid-low pricing with mid-low speed flash.

So encryption is being forced on Marshmallow? Does that mean my Tab S2 is screwed? The performance is incredible on Lollipop. But, I really need that data back up feature that Marshmallow brings so I don't need to lose my data and so I can bring in game saves from my phone. Having to deal with worse performance would be very unfortunate for me.

Which makes me laugh when rumours say google wants to take control of the nexus line and make their own phones. As if they know how to do it right. Ah well. Nexus 2016 should be interesting if those rumours are true. Will finally be time for them to put up.

God no. It's new devices launching with Marshmallow that are required. You're fine. This is why the Moto pure is still not encrypted. It didn't launch with M even though it's on it now.

Devices going forward should be much better as long as Google doesn't destroy performance with N. Although multiwindow is not going to make things any easier. Encryption, Art, 64 bit, material design was all a big undertaking

2016 Moto G and Moto X

Looks super nice if real. Hopefully this is the design they use down the line since I know it could change

That really sucks about the 5X.

Do we anticipate an update that will fix this, or is it a hardware issue? Makes no sense the older phones are able to run Marshmellow fine.

It was discussed above why older phones can run it fine. It makes a lot of sense if we are correct.

Wow my G4's battery went to shit since getting Marshmallow. Went from getting 4 hours SoT to 2 1/2 hours SoT. :(

Yeah I've given up hope on my G4 ever having truly good battery life. Sucks on Lollipop and Marshmallow.

Just gonna trade it into towards the LG G5 if the camera is better and the battery is better.

I'm going to be annoyed when the Exynos Galaxy S7 slays the snapdragon 820. Not fair!
Yeah, I'll be holding you to that one. You're implying a massive performance win here. Let's see just how "slayed" the 820 will be in a month or so.

So I just got a 6P on Thursday and have been loving it so far. Coming from an iPhone 6, the larger and more vibrant screen is a definite plus.

My issue is, the battery life seems to have dropped just two days after getting the phone. On the first day, I was pulling around five hours of SOT with no issue. Yet now, Google Play Services usage has skyrocketed, hitting about 22% before putting the phone on the charger. Mind you, I started charging the phone at around 30% to 40% and all it did for a little over a day was sit on my desk while I was mostly at the computer.

Is there a way to fix this? It only cropped up on Saturday and I'm not sure what is causing it. My settings for Location Services are set to Battery Saving, and I've even begun to disable syncing for Calendar, Gmail, Google Fit Data, and my Twitter account.

My phone is running rooted on the stock 6.0.1 ROM with some apps being hibernated in Greenify and Aggressive Doze enabled if that matters.

Pretty sure the 5X issues are QC issues.

Considering I know 3 people personally who have it and praise how silky smooth it is, and 2 other people who swear it's one of the laggiest phones they've ever had...

is the nexus 6p a good phone for my dad

he just wants to use it for music, web browsing, facebook/twitter. moving on from his work iPhone and wants to go android

he doesn't want the z5 line because they're bell exclusive and bell sucks slightly more dick than the other providers here

Yeah right. You're probably hearing different things due to differences in uptime and possibly app usage. Chrome can destroy a phone and lots of people do not mobile browse much. Just an example.

I really like chrome, but I hear a lot of bad things about it. Can you recommend anything similar/better?

I don't have any solutions but I definitely love my Nexus 6P! It's my best phone yet

Maybe try to delete Google app/services data? I think AJ was having that same issue, but I don't know if he figured it out yet.

I'm really hoping the Snapdragon 820 pulls some sort of magic performance bullet. Since the Snapdragon 800 (OG) and S4 Pro - there has been absolutely zero excitement behind these new processors.

I've watched my Note 3 squeeze by for three years thanks to Cyanogenmod - but the burn in is getting to me and the low quality camera (for 2016 - that is) kind of irks me.

Younger brother got a Nexus 6P and it looks stunning, but I'm biting my tongue hoping the Snapdragon 820 is the truth.

Bboy AJ

My dog was murdered by a 3.5mm audio port and I will not rest until the standard is dead

Nothing but patience fixed it. No idea. I stopped using Timely, too. It seemed to have helped. Maybe. Services is a black Pandora's Box.

I know I'm over reacting. I'm very interested in how these will perform.

I'm actually more annoyed on how marshmallow may actually limit the potential performance on new devices now. Fix this shit Google

Which apps are you greenifying? Are you greenifying any system apps?

So what's everyone looking forward to this year? Can't say much in Android land has my attention.

Samsung can't manage to get updates out, so doesn't really matter how good their hardware is.

Moto still appears to be a sinking ship at the hands of Lenovo, and their lack of biometrics in 2015 turned me right the fuck off from them.

LG is actually turning out pretty solid devices lately, but want to see them go away from gimmicks (V10's info band).

Sony's Z5 that released today ditches the biometrics found in EVERY OTHER COUNTRY'S VERSION. Ugh.

820 isn't sounding like the perfect smelling rose it once was, and Android is still chasing specs in many ways.

The Pixel is being widely panned for having Android instead of ChromeOS, nothing exciting on the wearable front that I've heard.

What's keeping you interested, fam?

If that's actually what the S7 looks like, I'm down. I want to move to LG but frankly Samsung's screens are the GOAT right now.

I'm excited about the persistent rumours of a new Nexus 7.

I want one with modern features - a fingerprint scanner (in the screen please!), a front facing camera that isn't a joke, bit of a spec bump, fast charging etc.

Quality of life things seem far more important than spec porn. If it had robust pen support as well it'd be god tier.

Also the Pixel would have been a disaster running ChromeOS too. Google doesn't have an OS that fits that price point, and needs to do a lot of work to get there. Or be cheaper. I still want my 10 inch comic reader, which means a device that runs fairly stock and with a high res screen and literally nothing else prioritised, as cheap as chips.

Im optimistic about HTC.
Willing to give the underdog a chance after last years fuck up.

If not then it looks like I'll be going for the S7 providing batterys good and touchwiz continuely improves. I know they'll do well on the camera front.

LGs G5 will a phablet so not interested.
Sony I've given up and would much rather got HTC a chance and my money than Sony.

Nexus's could be cool but cant wait that long - 2013 Moto G user here, lol.

On another note someone at XDA claims to have seen the device too and with Evleaks created this mock u
