Sounds like a hardware problem.

I'm replacing my z3c asap. As much as I love it, sony's quality control and slow repairs really pissed me off. I just had the headphone jack fixed in November. It took 25 days for it to get back to me and it broke again in less than 2 months.
I'm sol I guess. Going to pair it with a mouse to use as a chromecast device.

Only a couple months into smartphone user life but I think I found app functionality I like that should be built into these phones as a standard option.
Notification / Message / Call ID read-out voice function.

If for nothing other than added safety of people not being tempted to peek at the phone as much when driving.

But still wondering about what would be a good jumping off point app for when picking up the phone. Mine has the fingerprint scan unlock+launch. I have Twitter, Facebook and Pandora linked up but those are not actually useful or informative for the most part.

I think one of the nice looking with features premium weather apps is my best idea so far but that is only really useful when you yourself are booting up for the day or when watching out for inclement weather. Not usually something you would be interested launching the multiple times throughout the day..

I believe Moto voice does that well, read outs stuff and hands free use when it recognizes you are driving.

Weather Timeline is a great looking weather app with a ton of features if that's what you are looking for.

If anyone is wanting to pick up a 6P from Newegg, I've got $75 in Newegg credit I'd sell for $60. Like getting $15 off for free, plus you get your own $50 gift card with the purchase which you could sell for an even lower total price, on top of the $50 off retail and no tax. I just got mine, couldn't pass up that kind of deal.

I'm about to buy my first ever smartphone. My budget is about $500 Canadian ($380 USD) but I am willing to go as high as $600. Would the Nexus 5x be a good choice for a first-time user who otherwise loves gadgets or is there a better Android phone out there in my price range?

Lets continue the Verizon hate.

http://recode.net/2016/03/17/nextbit-cancels-verizon-and-sprint-versions-of-its-smartphone/

In an apology note to backers, CEO Tom Moss said the company underestimated the obstacles involved with getting a device approved for use on Verizon’s network.

“What people at the carriers — in good faith, given our need for quick answers — thought would take ‘weeks’ has turned into ‘months,’ ” Moss said. “What they thought would cost ‘hundreds of thousands of dollars’ has turned into ‘millions.’ And we’re still not there.”

I actually found two solutions for my broken touchscreen. First is to use nova prime gesture so I can access the notification on my home screen. The other solution is to use a mouse. Lol.

Welp, got my replacement Pixel C and still got exactly the same issue.

Whenever I try to purchase an app that costs money, I get an error,

"Error while retrieving information from server.
[RPC:S-7:AEC-0 ELVS-P3QO-E625O]"
(Everything after the AEC-0 is different every time)

This is immediately after turning on the tablet for the very first time and going through the setup process.

Worried that something is wrong with my Google account and that I'm going to have exactly the same issue even if I return it and got a different tablet. But it still works fine on my 6P phone is the thing.

My wife is having an issue with her G4. It seems to only happen after unlocking the phone.

Every app that requires a connection seem to never want to refresh when she tries to manually refresh. Eventually after numerous tries it will work.

My best guess is that WiFi is going to sleep when the phone is idle. I see that 'Keep WiFi on when screen is off' is definitely checked, so I'm not sure what could he causing this.

Any one have any ideas?

M10 Rumour roundup.
he announcement date of the HTC 10 (M10) is rapidly approaching, but when exactly will that be? In this leak overview, we’ll overview everything we know so far about the logistics of release, specs, and design of the HTC 10.

When To Expect It
We’ve heard quite a number of rumored or leaked dates since January, many of those conflicting each other and generally creating confusion. There is no true best bet for when the M10 announcement will take place, but here are some possibilities based off of leaks. Additionally, I’ve also published an overview of the official HTC teasers that we’ve seen so far, and what they may indicate for the M10.

Dates seen on leaked renders:

  • April 12th
  • April 19th
Dates leaked via social media:

  • April 6th
  • April 19th
  • May 9th (for retail availability in the US)
Well known leaker, Evan Blass (@evleaks on Twitter) seems to be betting on an April 19th announcement, with retail availability in the United States the week of May 9th. He’s one of the most well known leakers out there when it comes to phones and tablets, but he has been wrong in the past. Essentially, no matter what the source, always take leaks with a grain of salt.

Blass has also referenced the April 19th date seen on the screen of the phone in one of the leaked renders as being “…nearly a lock for [the] HTC 10 launch.”. He hasn’t clarified whether ‘launch’ in this case means announcement or release, but having not posted a new guess for retail availability, it’s a safe bet that his guess is an April 19th announcement with retail availability three weeks later.

However, another possible date for the announcement has recently surfaced online, courtesy of Upleaks via Weibo, cryptically posting “20160406WKS”, which has been interpreted as implying an April 6th announcement in Beijing in Wukesong (WKS), presumably at the Wukesong Culture & Sports Center. This rumor came with the below image of an HTC invitation to the event.

I personally have doubts about the validity of the HTC invitation, given the previously unseen logotype graphic and the general lack of information on it. But, as always, it’s a possibility.

Specs
Again, largely reported by Evan Blass, this time via an article on Venture Beat, in addition to information collected via other miscellaneous sources since then, we have quite an extensive list of specs.

  • Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow)
  • HTC Sense 8 UI
  • 5.2″ (~5.15″) QHD resolution display, potentially AMOLED
  • Fingerprint scanner, doubling as a home button
  • Capacitive navigation buttons on either side of the home button
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 with Adreno 530 graphics
  • 4 GB’s of RAM
  • 12 MP camera with laser assisted auto-focus (Sony IMX377 sensor with a 1.55 um pixel size)
  • Optical Image Stabilization on both the rear camera and the front facing camera
  • Storage starting at 32GB in most markets, with expandability via micro-SD
  • USB-C charging port
  • 3000-3600 mAh battery, depending on validity of various leaks
  • Boomsound audio, potentially with Hi-fi audio via MQA
Sense UI
Sense has always been one of the smoothest skins for Android on the market, and in addition to excellent performance, has become closer and closer to stock Android over the years. A fact sure to entice Nexus fans. You’ll be able to get a look at some of the default icons for Sense 8 in the renders below in the design section, but in addition to that, the new Sense is rumored to be the closest to stock yet. The HTC One A9 is most likely the closest we’ve seen to far to what it will be, what with its stock volume control overlay, notifications, and quick tiles.

Screen
The display will certainly be 5.2″ and of QHD (2560×1440) resolution. The shakiest bit of information regarding it is whether it will be an LCD panel, as has been traditional on HTC phones apart from 2015’s A9, or an AMOLED panel. Blass’ source for his initial specs leaks stated that the display “…looked to be of the AMOLED variety…”. Not exactly conclusive, but, as they used AMOLED on the A9 last year, it would be reasonable for them to continue that with the M10.

According to user Hamdir on the XDA-Developer forums, the display is certainly a Sharp panel. Whether LCD or AMOLED, we can’t say, but it allows for the possibility of it being an IGZO panel either way. This panel backplane technology enhances touchscreen sensitivity, and massively boosts efficiency. An IGZO panel was used on the Apple iPad Air, and was stated to have decreased screen power usage by up to 80%. Quite an impressive feat, especially for an LCD panel. If the display technology, whether LCD or AMOLED, uses IGZO, things will be looking good for the M10’s ability to go toe to toe with Samsung when it comes to the screen.

Camera
The Sony IMX377 is the same sensor that was used on the Nexus 6P last year. A quite favorably reviewed sensor, it has the potential to be even better on the M10 thanks to the addition of OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), and a wider aperture lens. Additionally, now that HTC has shown that they’ve learned from their missteps in camera technology and image processing, evidenced by performance from the A9, HTC’s camera software will most likely improve the experience from the Nexus 6P as well. RAW support, and manual photography settings are two enhancements over stock that HTC software brings to the table.

Speakers
While every leaked image and render we have shows that the M10 only has one speaker on the front (the earpiece), and a main speaker on the bottom of the device as with the iPhone and Galaxy S6&7, the information that we have points to a software solution to compensate for the absence of two front firing speakers.

The Desire 825, the flagship of HTC’s budget line-up was announced at this year’s Mobile World Congress and was stated to, like the two models below it, have Boomsound speakers. However, HTC wouldn’t allow any photos of the front of the device, and a leak showing the front of the device, reveals the same single front speaker as the M10. From this we can conclude that HTC has devised a method of combining audio from the earpiece speaker and bottom speaker, and applying various virtual audio techniques to give the illusion of two front firing speakers, and create a superior audio experience without the extra bezel room on the front required for that kind of audio in the past. The quality of this audio is yet to be determined, but if HTC is using it on both the Desire 825 and their flagship device, we can expect to receive some quality audio from it.

Design
HTC has been a quite well respected design leader for years, and were instrumental in influencing the flagship phone market towards more premium build materials since their introduction of the One M7 in 2013. Since the One M9 was a largely iterative entry into the series, speculation over the design of the M10 has been a the subject of debate over the past few months as we’ve gotten closer to its release. The design also happens to be one of the most thoroughly leaked aspects of the phone.

Dimension estimates: 147.88 x 72.91 x 8.28 mm, with the thinnest point on the sides tapering in to 2.7mm.

These estimates are again, courtesy of Hamdir over at XDA, who has, based off of the M10 design leaks, created some beautiful renders of the phone, as well as calculating his best guess on its dimensions.

The M10 has 2.5D glass on the front, giving it the same slickly tapered screen edges as the A9 and the iPhone 6-6S. The M10, based on the leaked renders, will be available in at least a few different color options, with both black and white front bezels. I’ll let the following images of the M10 speak for themselves, however, keep in mind that the leaked images of the device out in the wild are rife with lens distortion, poor white balance, and fingerprints. The renders made by Hamdir are a much more accurate testament to the design of the M10. Remember the rule of leaked photos, it will always look better in person.

Have you tried using a different account?
Not yet, I don't have another account. I guess I can try and create one, then remove my account from the tablet and add a new one to see what happens.

I assume all apps were updated to the latest versions?
Initially no, I got the error as soon as the tablet was started for the first time. I let everything update through the Play Store and then tried again, but still get the same error.

Have just been on the phone with Google and they tried the same troubleshooting, clearing data/cache from Google Play Services, Google Play Store and Downloads, then restarted the device, then removed my Google Account, re-added it and made sure everything completed sync successfully, but still getting the same error. Said he's going to pass it to the escalations team and call me back.

Definitely beginning to look like something is up with my account. Just strange that purchases via my Nexus 6P and the Web store are working absolutely fine.

Just created a new account and added my card as a payment method. Tried to make a purchase and it goes through fine.
Definitely looking to be an issue with my account.

The only difference with my regular account and the new account is that my regular account has some Google Play Store credit on it from the Opinion Rewards app, and has a fair few devices registered against it.
I'm wondering if it's possible that my account just has 'too many' devices against it, but I can't see any way to actually remove an old device from my account (My old S3 phone seems to be on there 3 times and I now have two Pixel C tablets registered against it)

Removed the new account from the tablet and re-added my original account. If I go to the "My Account" section of the Play Store on the tablet, I get the same error message when it tries to retrieve/display my payment methods. But again, only with my primary account on a new device. My old devices that were already registered can do this no problem. So the issue seems to be that new devices aren't correctly registering against my account,

My Nexus 5x, Galaxy S6, and now Moto X Pure had similar issues depending on which wifi connection I used. I have 2 wifi signals in my house, a slower wireless G signal and a faster wireless N signal (both are connected to Comcast Xfinity). When I'm on the faster signal I run into the same issues you do - apps like Facebook and Twitter don't refresh right away and it seems like there's a problem with the connection. On the slower wireless G connection (or if I'm using LTE) the apps refresh right away.

My Chromecast and Amazon FireTV are both connected to the faster wireless N signal and never have issues. They both stream Netflix and other videos fine in HD, where if I switch to the slower wireless G connection I can stream but sometimes it'll slow down below HD quality.

Had another callback from Google but still no luck. At the last moment the guy suggested turning on the "Allow less secure apps" option on my account, but sadly this didn't make a difference. So my case is off to the specialist teams.

On the up side, the issue is more of an annoyance/inconvenience than anything else. I can still make purchases via my phone or the web store, then go to my tablet to download them from the My Apps section. But it doesn't look like it's something that can be fixed from my end of things at all and is reliant on Google sorting something with my account.

You know, I thought of that last night when she was explaining to me. I have the same setup and have no issues on my Nexus 6 connected to the N SSID. So I asked her to make sure she was connected to the N one. I'll have her connect to the G tonight and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks!

Let me know if it works. At first I thought it was a fluke, but after having 3 consecutive phones with similar issues I'm surprised I don't see more people complaining.

Our tablet and phones had the same issue with an N network. I dont know if it was on the router side or not, but we now use AC without issues. I asked before and no one believed me I had issues with N but not G.

Google Voice question with my Nexus 6p.

So i'm on verizon, and I just changed my VM over to use google voice. It currently sends the VM to hangouts.

But in the stock dialer, I see there is an option to change voicemail settings (and presumably change the VM shortcut on the keypad), but the only option I have is "my carrier". Is there no way to change that?

Also, is there no way when I ignore a call on my normal number, that instead of it going and ringing my google voice number, it takes them straight to google voice voicemail? I have to completely turn off notifications for incoming calls to my google voice number otherwise.

Good to know. With all the different types of devices (your tablets, Nexus 5x with stock Android, Galaxy S6 with touchwiz, and Moto X Pure with near stock) it sounds like it might be an underlying Android issue.

Is there any way to have a transparent google search bar? I'm using nova and while there is a transparent version it's the old google logo one and it bothers me a bit,

I think you need to download the Google Voice app and run through the setup to have the shortcuts setup properly for GV

If someone calls your regular number then it has nothing to do with GV...

Yeah it does. When I ignore a call to my carrier number, it sends them to my GV voicemail.

Figured it out. With the hangouts integration, you basically have to turn on forwarding calls to your GV number to forward to your carrier number. Otherwise you have the problem I described above if you ignore a call to your carrier number.

Lol I don't even want to pretend I understand what you just said. I always download the GV app and set it up through there and everything just works with hangout and default dialer.

Click on the words "night mode" rather than on the "on/off" switch. That did it for me.

Thank you, that finally did it! Rocking dark mode now.

As for the new build, official info is fixes for performance issues
New Dev Preview 1 Builds for Nexus 5X, 6P, 9, and 9G
Starting today, you'll find new builds for the Nexus 5X and 6P (NPC56W) and for the Nexus 9 and Nexus 9 4G (NPC56X) which addresses some performance issues.

I really hope the next HTC phone is amazing, I can't stop searching for new leaks daily. I miss my old M8 and M7 and I currently have the Nexus 6.

I really hope it doesn't disappoint like the M9 did, but the leaks look hopeful.

Why would you get the HTC M10?

I prefer HTC over Samsung since I love rooting my phone and using custom ROMs. That and I prefer Sense over touchwiz.

Also I love dual speakers and I since the M7 I have made sure all my phones have that.

I almost got the Nexus 6P but it doesn't have the 820 SOC.

Mostly a personal preference honestly.

I hope the rumor about HTC and Google signing a deal are true and I'd love to see a M10 GPE phone like the M8 and M7 got.
