The Note 7 will be one very expensive paperweight come Dec 15th

I'm honestly surprised no Chinese company has capitalized on note 7 failure.

Pretty sure someone can prototype and mass produce a note clone with stylus in a month or 2.

i would assume that everyone who is still holding on has already rolled back from the 60% firmware to the 100% firmware and disabled updates with Package Disabler Pro.

in other news, still waiting on that shipping box from Samsung, but i got my money back from my carrier last month so like ... whatever

I don't think people dumb enough to keep using one of these phones have heard of rolling back or disabler pro.

Google Now removed the 5 day forecast card and replaced it with one that only gives you the current conditions only. My personal cards got pushed into an "upcoming" tab that is perpetually empty for whatever reason. I remember when they made a big deal of Google Now and it's just a shitty feed of bad stories and a useless weather card now lol.

Yea, I think they are tweaking it some as mine just got added this morning.

While upcoming trips, appointments and package tracking makes sense in the "Upcoming" tab, today's events like someone's birthday should be in the main feed. Less focus on random news articles. That said traffic and today's weather should be in the feed, and maybe long term weather forecast in the "Upcoming".

I'm probably going to turn it off now..

Frankly, the widget view in iOS is more useful than Google Now.

I can expand the weather widget to see the rest of the day WITHOUT VISITING A WEB PAGE.
I get service advisories/disruptions for public transit.
I can see my entire calendar's events for the day.
I can see all my reminders and check them off right there without opening the app.
And it surfaces useful news articles (like actual world news) unlike Google Now which loves to show me garbage like an article from The India Times about some piece of shit Lenovo K4 getting Marshmallow because I searched for Android Marshmallow in Google one time.

I feel like I spend more time trying to prune Google Now into something useful than the time it actually (tries) to save me.

lol VERIZON

especially since the update still allows emergency 9-1-1 calling

But if you can't charge it how do you dial anything? I think they have people on contracts or payment plans with these phones, people who would be willing to stick it out to a Note 8, so they will likely drag it out til that's out, then debilitate the 7.

Well, the Nexus 6P 30% charge crash screwed me big time last night. My phone died at the DC MGM casino grand opening. Terrible. I would have taken a charger or battery pack if I knew 70% charge leaving home meant 40%.

Maybe your interests just got shittier?

Sprint will roll out the final update on January 8th.

To drive increased participation in its U.S. Note7 Refund and Exchange Program, Samsung will release a software update beginning on January 8, 2017 that will disable all remaining Sprint Note7 devices from being able to hold a charge. This software update will eliminate the ability of these Galaxy Note7 to work as mobile devices.

AT&T and T-Mobile have not commented so far.

I thought that all phones are supposed to allow 911 calling even if it doesn't have a SIM card due to some sort of FCC regulation.

exactly.

Hey that iOS transfer feature that Google put in the Pixel how well does it work? And has that feature been extracted to work on other android phones

The Google WiFi sold out hard. I had a late second desire to buy three for my parents' house. Can't find it anywhere. I wanted it because WiFi coverage in their house is poor. And now I'm stuck here for the weekend with poor WiFi.

I set up the Google Home, though. Pretty slick. I can see myself using it but probably not a ton. Still, seems convenient. For the $75 I paid, I'm happy. Should have gotten two.

Love to buy a new tablet, but both Google still just trying to peddle the Pixel C for $500 still a year later.
Same. Still struggling using my phone and smashed Zenpad.

I wouldn't even mind getting the C (or maybe the tab s2), but not for launch msrp 12-18 months later.
Holding out for that rumored 7" Huawei tablet, although 7" might be too small for my liking.

Am pretty sure I'll buy a second one, unless we see say Sony announce a new rev of their speakers with home built in. I know google wants companies to do that.

Looking forward to see what happens now that the actions api is open.

Still not sold on Google Wifi though. I just get the impression that like other mesh systems its dumbed down feature wise.

I'm at least going to be using the "My Day" feature every morning.

Few weeks since returning to android and I love the Nvidia shield. Chromecast works perfectly to let me bypass blackouts on my NHL TV account and I can watch everything. Even Amazon Prime works great.

Hello again, android-GAF.

I'm (still) looking for a medium priced android phone. I wanted to go with a One Plus X, but those aren't available anymore.

Now, I want my phone to be as small as possible. Preferably 5 inch or smaller but no bigger than 5.2 inch. I know the One Plus 2 devices are really good, but that phone is just way too big for my tastes.

I've hear mixed things about the Nexus 5X, but it seems to fit my tastes the best. Any serious caveats I should know about? Battery life and the camera app crashing a lot pop up regularly in the reviews...

The Honor 8 is still your best bet. If you want to stick to that size, you'll either have to find older phones or go must cheaper in pricw, but you'll lose out on performance.

Try seeing if you can grab a new Galaxy S7 from Swappa over the next few days. I think that there could be some in the $400 price range.

No swappa here in Belgium.

Side by side, Honor 8 blows the Nexus 5X out of the water it seems. Guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and settle for a larger and more expensive than wanted phone. It's just really hard to find here in Belgium. Cheapest I can find ATM is € 360...

I'd recommend you try it out in store first as the Huawei phones have Emotion UI which some people really hate.

I love my Honor 8 with Nova Launcher. I even don't mind the stock UI if it wasn't for the fact that I can't hide apps I don't use.

Performance is blazing fast and has never given me a glitch or any type of slow down.

You can hide apps from the App Drawer in Nova Launcher.

Having Honor 8 as a temp phone for a couple days now, EMUI really makes me angry sometimes. Once the phone is set up and not having to go into settings frequently means I can ignore the skin right? Not really.

They totally changed how DND works. You can't turn it on and tell it to turn itself off after certain amount time. You have to make a schedule for it.

Change the font size only affects EMUI, wtf?

The screen color is as inaccurate as reviews.

It's really aggressive at killing apps unless you go through multiple places to disable it per app - basically there's Android way and then there is EMUI way.

Notification is truly crappy, why take away something that Android does better than iOS? I guess EMUI5 will change that, thank god.

Otherwise the hardware is good at discounted price. Finger print sensor feels nice. The camera and the software together is decent. There are better choices if it's at full price.

rumors say that fanboys would care about launcher dev competition...

the quickpage thing is cool though. I might give action launcher a try

Yeah, I still like Nova ;)

However, I find it strange Nova hasn't seen a non-Beta update in quite a while. Delivering timely updates should also be expected for the amount of money they make.

Just got my Gear S3 Classic. Beautiful watch. Can't wait to use Samsung Pay with this. It's a bit thick though and the leather band is incredibly hard. The software is a bit more fleshed out and the screen is definitely the best smartwatch screen I've ever witnessed.
