Anti-Trump Conservatives react to state of the Republican Party after Trump's Win.

Seeing the word 'hijack' being bandied about on right-leaning forums, and, well... No.

That word does not get to be used in this situation in my fact. The hijack happened decades ago with the seeds of Southern Strategy being planted. Now? Trump isn't hijacking shit; this IS the Republican Party. This is what they've been planting all these years and they're surprised that the fruit its borne is a bunch of Manchineel apples? Using the word 'hijack' so as to take as much blame off of them as possible? Whatever. Maybe hijack is a word they use as Republicans to make themselves feel better.

As long as they take big hearty bites.

Trump picking one of his own children as his running mate would be downright amazing.
I'm hoping he picks Omarosa. She's worked for Gore so she qualifies.

Not all Conservatives have contributed to the hateful rhetoric that's enabled people like Trump to prosper.

If you've voted for them, you've enabled them, and you're responsible for them. You can't deny your part in this while voting for this. "But my guy is good" no your guy empowers them and you're complicit in this nonsense.

Reading RedState last night was non-stop hilarity.

Unfortunately, we're almost certainly doomed to a Cruz nomination in 4 years as Republicans try and rationalize the loss as being because they didn't nominate a "true" conservative.

And considering Hillary is insanely unpopular and I can only imagine will become more so as President, that makes it a scary proposition.

If the party continues down it's purity path they're doomed well beyond 2020. The demographics continue to change in the Dems favor. If they haven't dropped it by 2024, long time red states will become purple.

I think what's feels the worst for them is that beating Hillary would be trivial for even a halfway decent candidate. But they couldn't muster one.

What information do you base this off of? They have an uphill battle until the demos change in their favor.

they wanted the ignorant vote so they could grab power, so they used dog-whistle politics to say what the ignorant wanted to hear without actually having to appear overtly ignorant themselves

Trump doesn't care about the health of the Republican Party, though, so suddenly they have a problem

This is exactly why the republican base turned on the establishment. He's calling the biggest base of republican supporters, poor white people, stupid hillbillies. What do they even stand for anymore?

If they honestly gave a shit they'd united behind Clinton like the French left united with UMP to stop le pen.

I'll wait.

I really want Clinton to beat trump as bad as Chirac beat Le Pen to maybe get the republicans to swiftly reshape their party to be competitive in the future, but I don't think that will happen sadly.

Hey man, the Republican Party aren't racists and misogynists like Donald Trump, they're just No. 1 among racists and misogynists. There's a difference!

She has a real shot at flipping a state or two that would be incredibly embarrassing for the GOP to lose. States like Utah and Mississippi, which have unique demographics that could lead to a big upset, could be the states that really slap some sense into the GOP. At the very least, they'll be competitive.

I feel that if 2012 didn't wake the GoP up, then 2016 sure as hell won't. They'll keeping doing what they're doing until their base has literally died of old age.

I will not vote for Donald Trump

I really really really don't like Hillary Clinton

I would NEVER vote for Donald Trump
I would vote for Trump before I'd vote for Hillary. I'm voting for Gary Johnson. I guess that means I'm voting for Hillary, but I want her to lose. I'm so confused.

The only thing that will wake them up probably is if trump got less than 30% of the vote in the GE which sadly won't happen.

Yep. The states that look vulnerable in these cycle are Arizona, North Carolina, Mississippi, Utah and Georgia from what I noticed. The worst case scenario is that she gets North Carolina. The best case scenario is she gets at least 3 or 4 of them or even all of them in this election cycle. If she got all of them trump won't probably get anywhere near 150 electoral votes which will probably be devastating for the republicans.

Well, yeah, but it's clear now that the party has lost control. It'll be easier to push a "true" conservative than to rethink their brand and strategy altogether, which is why they haven't changed despite 2008 and 2012 being clear signs that they need to.

Hillary's unfavorables are huge. She's not well liked even among Democrats. A charismatic moderate Republican would've taken her behind the woodshed, or as Trump would put it, "schlonged her."

Are these republicans upset?

I mean this is what they've supported all these years, Trump just bought it up to the surface

No kidding. They just don't like the fact Trump said it instead of operating in the shadows like they have done for decades. You think Republicans and tea partiers want muslims in the US, don't want to deport Mexicans, pass pro-LGBT laws etc. Trump is literally a creation of the Republican party. What does it say that a silver spoon fed elite liberal from New York wears trucker hats and wins with religious farmers and deep south republicans voters?

All these Republicans secretly want the same.

Not really.

A lot of Republicans don't like him because they don't believe he's a Christian or even that he believes in god.

Also they don't like him shitting all over the Iraq War or saying Planned Parenthood actually does a lot of good, or saying he doesn't care what bathrooms transgender people use. He tends to say some pretty moderate or even progressive things and then changes it when he sees the Republican polls about those issues.

The establishment don't like him because he says outright what they cover with dog whistles. Whether they're being honest but ignorant or straight up disingenuous is up to you.

Those aren't moderate or liberal things. They're not even political stances.

It is sad that "reflecting on the past" and "don't go out of your way to be a dick to people" are seen as political stances, that they're seen as partisanly liberal policies

Sadly true.

A lot of people are living in the current age where the last 3 Presidents were all re-elected, so it's been awhile since a blowout happened, but Bush 43 vs. Dukakis wasn't that long ago. This could be the flipped map of that.

Hillary's unfavorables are huge. She's not well liked even among Democrats. A charismatic moderate Republican would've taken her behind the woodshed, or as Drumpf would put it, "schlonged her."

This misses the point of that post. Mitt Romney got the highest share of the white vote of any candidate in over 30 years, and the white voter share of the electorate decreases every year (so Romney's record percentage in 2016 is worth less than it was in 2012). So the GOP has to bet on one of two things:
1) They do even better among white voters than their recent record-breaking run. (Super unlikely)
2) They do much better among non-white voters and women (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH)

They have a serious electoral disadvantage in national elections now. The demographics just get worse and worse for them every 4 years. In 2028, states like freaking Texas will have large enough Hispanic populations that make them purple. If the GOP can't do better with non-white voters (and that's not happening for decades with Trump tainting their image), then they could end up shut out of the White House. The news would have to treat the Presidential race like they do Senate races in California; Republicans will run, but no one would ever bet on them winning (including right-wing sources).

I know people are enjoying the implosion of the GOP, but I really do hope there is some genuine self reflection.

Not all Conservatives have contributed to the hateful rhetoric that's enabled people like Trump to prosper. Their party has been hijacked by radicals and it's sad.

they voted for those candidates, they bought into the policies and language, they are guilty of the condition of the current party. no sympathy for them.

I'm not missing the point. Hillary is not going to get Obama's numbers, which is what Romney was running against. Your post treats the voting numbers as though they're static. Hillary's unfavorables are much higher than Obama's, and I doubt she's going to get as much of the black vote because she's not Obama, and her and her husband did a lot to hurt black people with their crime legislation, something that has become better understood in the years that followed.

A moderate Republican could've made good inroads with hispanic communities, which are often conservative on many issues including religion. This is why so many people thought Rubio was the "savior" because he could attract hispanic voters, thus mitigating the drop in white percentages. In 2012 Romney screwed that pooch by being the whitest religion he could be and also a religion that other religious people do not like. There was a lot of time in the last 8 years where Republicans could've moderated their positions and done more to reach out. Instead they've been radicalized further by their angry and disaffected base. Moderate Republicans are basically traitors to the base at this point, so they can't get past the primaries.

My point was that Hillary is really not a strong candidate in general, but the GOP is in such shambles that the doors to the White House have been thrown wide open for her.

his supporters wouldn't like that. somebody like stacy dash would be more up his alley.

yeah lets wait until november to see how these people vote before you say they aren't contributing to people like trump.

IIRC Obama didn't get significantly more of the Black vote than Kerry did. And what pulls the Black vote over to Trump exactly?

That being said, Trump has every chance to win because it's easily possible he gets EVEN MORE of the White vote than Romney did. Blue collar labor wasn't for Romney but they could easily go for Trump.

The black vote doesn't have to move so much as not turn out in large numbers.

Trump will probably get a woman as VP.

Or Carson, lol.

Please pick Carson, we need more laughs.

This ignores the clear trend that black voters have continued to increase in turnout literally without fail for decades, including for Hillary during these primaries. Black voters are why the South was her firewall.

Black turnout isn't decreasing with a freaking Clinton at the top of the ticket.
