Any controversial/unusual GOTY picks?

So going through most threads and websites it seems to be unanimous that either Elden Ring or Ragnarok was their pick for GOTY, and I got asked the other day and felt a bit stupid saying mine was The Quarry. I'm a massive fan of Supermassive's work and this blew everything they have done previously out the water. The motion capture, the graphics, the story telling, the sound design, the sound track, just the sheer amount of choices/outcomes that are possible in the game blew me away. Any one else got any GOTY suggestions that may not have even been on someone's radar last year?

Other than Elden Ring Signalis or Vampire survivor should be in 2nd by a long shot and people who pick GOW or Plauges as goty deserve all the stagnancy of game design creativity they get. Because games that try to be creative are rarely rewarded.

If Elden Ring didn't come out this year I think Chained Echoes would have had a chance for me. It grabs the best things of all the old RPG's I love and and puts them in a well executed package. I'm playing it and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 right now and they are head to head.

But unfortunately, I have to go with Elden Ring at the end of the day like almost everyone else.

Yahtzee picked Neon White. I picked Windjammers 2.

The Quarry was Supermassive's best work since Until Dawn but far too predictable to be anywhere near footing with that effort.

Vampire Survivors for me and honestly not even close

Really I could play any other game outside maybe Hell Let Loose yet I would find my mind drifting to things I wanted to get done in Vampire Survivors

I think I was the opposite and that's why I liked it so much, the story kept taking turns that had me regretting just about every decision I kept making. Glad I got it on PS5 as well, should be a fun one to eventually platinum.

COD will never win GOTY it seems, but that was mine. Not as controversial as say Vampire Survivors as mentioned above, but more like Madden controversial...as in Madden would never get GOTY.

Nothing is unusual and everything can be goty. You dont have the follow the generic hive mind of everyone just bcuz. I would've given Tunic the goty if HFW did not release this year.

Halston Sage's big-ass titties.

Just kidding, sort of. I too thought that game was great. Made me a fan of horror games.

Sentinel 13 : Aegis Rim on Switch

Might not be the actual release year since it's a port, but this game and it's story is definitely one of the best ever.
